Introduction This brochure has been produced to support organisations with access to online and virtual training to safeguard children where access to traditional face-to-face training is not available or safe to do so. The brochure has been produced to ensure this essential training remains available during the current Covid-19 restrictions. The training does not replace face-to-face training but is an alternative and can be used to continue professional development and refresh previous training. Face-to face delivery will be resumed as soon as it is safe to do so. Part 1 - ONLY A MAX OF 2 PERSONS / ORGANISATION / COURSE Provides details of seminars and training delivered via Microsoft Teams / Zoom or similar. The training is provided as a response to COVID 19 and an effort to ensure access to training. This section will be updated as the training offer develops and the circumstances change. The training is booked via Eventbrite and details will be provided when you are successfully enrolled. Part 2 You can access a wide range of free or low-cost e-learning designed to support your work to safeguard children and young people. The majority of the courses are free, and many are accredited by recognised bodies. N.B. All the training in Part 2 is sourced from external providers and the BSCP is not responsible for the content or able to assist with access or technical difficulties. On completion of a course, practitioners should notify their agency training representative to ensure that e-learning is captured on their training record; you should also ensure you update any personal CPD records. Part 1 1. Domestic Abuse and Violence: Crises Call Management & Disclosure The training is 60 minutes and will be delivered remotely via Zoom by Fortalice staff who provide extensive services for victims of domestic abuse. Domestic Abuse and Violence: Male Victims Whilst one in six men suffer domestic abuse in their lifetime and one in every three victims are male organisations and practitioners working with domestic abuse victims are realising there is a growing need to ensure men and their children receive the support they need by professionals and their local community. 5. Partnership Safeguarding Webinars These sessions provide an overview of the Partnership workstream and priorities, setting out how we are working as a partnership to develop our local safeguarding arrangements. It is an opportunity to hear about your experiences and the safeguarding challenges you are experiencing in our ‘new normal’ and beyond Sessions will focus on local priorities such as complex safeguarding, neglect and the re-development of our local thresholds document, the ‘Framework for Action’. Designated Safeguarding Leads Training This course is aimed at those practitioners with Designated Safeguarding Lead (or deputy) responsibilities for children and young people in their agency or setting. The course will describe the role of the DSL; enhance your understanding of the role and responsibilities and identify ways the DSL can support staff and organisation. Female Genital Mutilation Female Genital Mutilation is suffered by 1000's of young girls and women. 8. Forced Marriage and Honour Based Violence (3 x Modules) N.B. This course is in 3 modules and you must complete all to receive a certificate. Harmful Gambling This course addresses the increasingly problematic issue of gambling and Children and Young People. 11. Introducing Bolton’s Complex Safeguarding Team (CST) This is a briefing session for all staff who deal with cases of exploitation in its many forms and make referrals for a service. The “EXIT” team in Bolton (Child Sexual Exploitation Team) has undergone a significant change in their role and together with 2 specialist GMP police teams and additional support from key partner agencies make up the newly formed Complex Safeguarding Team. This briefing aims to provide staff with an understanding of the changes made, what the new model looks like and how it will operate. This will include discussion about the new referral pathway, thresholds, resources and the different level of support offer to young people, their families and partner agencies. Resistant Families This course deals with the resistance you may encounter when working with families and the reasons for that. You will consider the types of resistance you may encounter in practice, gain an understanding of the underlying causes of this; the barriers this then creates to recognising neglect and successful responses. Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) This presentation from the LADO will outline their role, when and if you need to be making referrals and seeking their advice and guidance with respect to your staff or volunteers for who you may have concerns or a complaint or an allegation is made against. 15. Early Help Awareness Early help means providing support as soon as a problem emerges, at any point in a child’s life. This knowledge session will help you to identify children and families who would benefit from support early, the process of an assessment and identifying services to address those needs. The session will outline Bolton’s procedures to ensure we are using standard ways of working with families to identify the right support that can be delivered quickly to prevent things from getting worse. This will include the responsibility to share information, work together and coordinate action plans and the role of a lead professional. 17. Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (formerly Serious Case Reviews) This course is for those people who require a higher level of expertise and a fuller understanding of Working Together requirements to identify and assess concerns and then to plan, undertake and review actions and interventions. This will include the relevant functions of the Bolton Safeguarding Children Partnership in relation to serious cases and rapid reviews; the criteria and purpose of a Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews outlined in Working Together 2018; the themes from national and local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews and identify how the lessons learned from Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews impact on your practice. 18. Keeping Children Safe: Child Protection (Advanced) Level 3 This is a 3 x module course. Modules 1 and 3 are online and Module 2 is a workbook to be completed between completing Modules 1 & 3. The course is aimed at those with Designated Safeguarding Officer or child safeguarding lead responsibilities for their organisations. It will consider the child protection systems and procedures, the roles and responsibilities of the lead role and the need and processes of working together using case studies and activities to apply knowledge. Familial Abuse Keeping Children Safe - Level 1 Free This course provides is required to be undertaken by all staff and volunteers who work consistently or intermittingly with children. It provides training on our roles and responsibilities, the signs and symptoms of the common forms of abuse and what to do if you suspect abuse or it is disclosed to you by a child. Keeping Children Safe - Level 3 £20 This course is for anyone who requires Level 3 Safeguarding training and has a considerable responsibility for safeguarding children, and they have to be able to act accordingly to information and concerns brought to them. Anyone working at this level needs to be confident in working with multiple agencies and advise on local and national policies. It outlines the responsibilities lead workers in the children’s and young person’s sector have." Adverse Childhood Experiences Free (50 mins) This training gives you an understanding that experiencing adversity in childhood can have a significant impact over a person’s life course resulting in ill health, poor wellbeing and in some cases premature death. Available at (click link) Adverse Childhood Experiences (A.C.E.'s) Provider https://www.acesonlinelearning.com Adverse Childhood Experiences (book) Free This book, written by a group of practitioners who have experience in supporting children who are living with trauma and/or experiencing traumatic events and are all based in the NW of England and work in the education sector and the NHS. It describes what ACEs are, their immediate effects and how they can affect children in the short-term and throughout their lives. There are case studies to discuss and ways that have been developed to manage the effects of ACEs and to prevent them occurring in the first place. Childhood involves a consideration of what shapes our ideas of what childhood is as well as looking at the reality of children’s lives. Media representations, children’s status in the home, educational provision, healthcare and education have a bearing on of the experience of childhood and how we think about children’s needs. Children Living in Different Settings Free (7 hours Level 2) Most children live with a parent or parents, with siblings and relatives and with family pets in the family home, but many children do not live with their parents or even with their families. They may live elsewhere through choice or necessity, but whatever the event that causes them to move away from their parents or families, the significance of moving in a child's life can be considerable. This free course, Children living in different settings, will be of interest to anyone who supports children who live away from their families in any capacity. Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Free (12 hours Level 1) This course examines approaches to people whose sexual orientation or gender identity does not conform to that of the majority. This explores how legal and social/cultural attitudes have changed significantly over time. The legal approaches to sexual orientation and gender identity cover a range of different areas of law including criminal, employment and family law. The focus will be on the approach of English law. Childhood in the Digital Age Free The amount of technology available to children today is greater than in any previous generation. How is shaping children's development and experiences. Prevent Awareness Free This offers an introduction to the Prevent duty, and explains how it aims to safeguard vulnerable people from being radicalised to supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists themselves.
