TRANSFER GUIDE CITY COLLEGES OF CHICAGO and BENEDICTINE UNIVERSITY 2011 Catalog 2011-2012 Catalog Benedictine University Core Requirements** for Transfer students with 20+ transferable hours: Core Categories Hours Suggestions Communications 9 Take ENG 101, 102 and SPCH 101 Common Core/Cultural Heritage 6 Must be completed at Benedictine University Series Mathematics 3 It is strongly suggested that students going into majors requiring more than core math complete at least one transferable math course prior to transfer. Humanities* 12 Four courses are required with at least 1 but no more than 2 courses in Art/Music, and one in Philosophy/Religion/Literature. The remaining two courses are to be chosen from Communications, Art, Music, Foreign Language, History, Literature, Philosophy, Religion, and Humanities. Science* 9 Courses need to be taken from both Life and Physical Science disciplines Social Science* 9 Take Psychology or Sociology, Anthropology or Political Science, and Economics * It is suggested that IAI General Education courses be selected to fulfill these areas. City Colleges of Chicago IAI General Education courses are listed in bold print. If you are following the IAI complete program for your AA/AS degree, you need to see your City College of Chicago advisor. ** The general education core requirements may vary depending on the major selected. A core category cannot be fulfilled by more than 6 semester hours of the same subject. At least 9 semester hours must be completed outside the student's major program area for each divisional core requirement. At least 55 of the 120 semester hours required for graduation must be completed at a four-year regionally accredited college/university. This rule applies to all students without exception. A total of 45 semester hours must be completed at Benedictine University to meet the Academic Residency Requirement unless you are accepted into the Degree Completion Program. See the Benedictine University online catalog for rules for the Degree Completion Program and the Accelerated Adult Evening and Weekend Programs. Thirty of the final 45 hours must be completed at Benedictine University including at least 12 credit hours at the 200-level or above in their major. A major field of study requires at least 36 semester hours, of which a minimum of 24 semester hours must be completed at the 200-level or above, of which at least nine semester hours must be at the 300-level or above. Suggestions for current Benedictine University students: An “Approval of Transfer Credit Form” should be filled out prior to registration for any course taken off campus. This form is available online or in the Student Success Center and will need to be signed by your advisor, the department chair and the Student Success Center staff.
