OUR STORY AMAWATERWAYS, FAMILY-OWNED AND OPERATED SINCE 2002 Family-owned and operated, AmaWaterways was founded in 2002; however, our river cruise story began well before that. President Rudi Schreiner was born in Vienna, at the heart of the Danube. His love of design drew him to architecture, but his even greater love of travel drew him to places far and wide. Combining both of his passions, and coinciding with the completion of the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal in 1992, Rudi became a driving force for river cruise travel— and for these efforts has been recognized as the “Most Innovative Cruise Executive” and was presented with the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Executive Vice President Kristin Karst brings extensive experience in luxury travel, river cruising and customer service to AmaWaterways. Rudi and Kristin partnered with Jimmy Murphy, a brilliant travel entrepreneur who built Brendan Vacations. His son, Gary, now carries on his father’s legacy in his role as Vice President of Sales. From the beginning, our goal was to create a river cruise company that we ourselves would Representing our family ownership, from left to right: enjoy. To us, that meant excellent food and wine, comfortable and tasteful décor, ample space Rudi Schreiner, President; Kristin Karst, Executive in which to relax, and staterooms with maximum views to enjoy the ever-changing scenery. GIVING BACK: AMAWATERWAYS’ CAMBODIAN SCHOOL PROJECT AmaWaterways proudly sponsors the ODA (Opportunities of Development thru Art) Free Village School outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our financial support helped build the school and we continue to provide funds for teachers’ salaries, school supplies and other necessities. The ODA Free Village School brings critical English-language skills to local children for whom fluency is the key to acquiring employment in adulthood, much of which is centered on the tourism industry in Siem Reap. In addition, introductory computer skills are taught that have the power to help these poverty-stricken children in outlying villages turn their whole families’ lives around through permanent CO-OWNER KRISTIN KARST WITH CAMBODIAN SCHOOL CHILDREN salaried, government or tourism-related jobs. Many classes are offered at night to accommodate children who must divide their time between working the family rice plot and gaining their education. The school also serves as a community center for nearby residents of all ages. All of us at AmaWaterways are inspired by the delightful children who attend the ODA Free Village School and are honored to be involved with such a worthwhile, life-changing project.
