DMC in Northern Europe The Kingdom of Norway is a genuine treasury of northern nature. Total area of Norway together with the islands is 385,199 km². The capital of Norway is Oslo – the country’s largest city with millenary history and abundant cultural life. The history of other Norwegian cities is no less amazing, and life seethes in them. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE The official language of Norway is Norwegian. CLIMATE Thanks to Gulfstream and the North Atlantic Current, coastal areas have mild climate. In the inland areas the climate is hotter in summer and colder in winter. Above the Arctic Circle, the polar day in summer and the polar night in winter are observed. Temperatures in January are between +2°C and -12°C, temperatures in July are between +6°C and +15°C. CURRENCY The national currency of Norway is Norwegian krone (NOK). TRANSPORT Norway has more than 50 regular airports. The largest air hubs are the airports of Oslo (Garder- moen and Torp). Intercity buses and the entire system of ferries and sea lines between cities and ports are also well-developed. CUISINE Norwegian menu includes plenty various dishes. A ranking place is assigned to fish and seafood: roasted and smoked salmon “laks”, boiled shrimps “reker”, smoked dried cod “lutefisk”. Whale meat and dishes made of it may seem a delicacy but have always been traditional for Norwegians. Dairy products play an important role: spices are replaced with sour cream in many hot dishes, while different sorts of crottin feature uncommon colouring (from yellow to dark-brown) and characteristic smell. Ringnes beer and purely Norwegian akevitt – alkie from potatoes with caraway matured in wooden casks – are among the most popular alcoholic drinks in Norway. COBALT MINES, OR "IN THE SEARCH OF THE CAVE KING" (7 hours) (April 1 - November 1) Since the 18th century, the mines to the north of Oslo provided up to 80 percent of the world’s production of cobalt. Today, the territory of the former royal cobalt mines is a unique complex that includes mines, old factory buildings, a waterfall, a café with home cuisine, museums, souvenir shops, and a mini-farm for the young- est guests. During the tour we will visit the most beautiful mines of the 18th-19th centuries in Scandinavia. The length of the route is 1.5 km, which includes climbs and descents on the stairs leading to the very heart of the mines, large halls, and extensive galleries. While visiting these mountainous places, you can be easily carried into action of the famous play “Peer Gynt” by H. Ibsen. These caves are also mysterious like the melody of Edward Grieg's “In the Hall of the Mountain King”. When on the tour, be vigilant: perhaps you might be the lucky one to meet the Mountain King. The descent into the mines accompanied by a local guide is available from May 24 to September 29. Cheese matured by a famous local dairy in an old traditional way can be found here in the cobalt mines. This cheese is supplied to the members of the Norwegian royal family. On this tour you get to see where the cheese is stored. It can be purchased in all shops of the museum. You can enjoy Norwegian cuisine in one of the cafes, take a walk to Haugfoss waterfall, visit the museum of the artist Theodor Kittelsen. It is a great place to relax in nature for families with children. There is a pet farm, green lawns at the river bank, places for picnic and games. We will also visit the hometown of the Biathlon King – the famous Ole Einar Bjørndalen. A monument to this well-known citizen is found here. www.easytravel.eu norway@easytravel.eu +4745516857 12

The history of the city founded over 900 years ago is rooted in the Viking Age. Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf - the key historical attraction of the city – is found on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites.
