World Mission Sunday 2021 October 24, 2021 World Mission Sunday is celebrated in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world. Respect Life Month October is Respect Life Month! USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Ac vi es provides materials to help Catholics understand and value the gi of human life and help build a culture that cherishes and protects it. October 10, 2021 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time In the Gospel accounts we learn that the Son of the Almighty came in to our world in a state of great vulnerability. He needed to be de- fended, protected, cared for and raised by Joseph. God trusted Joseph, as did Mary, who found in him someone who would not only save her life, but would always provide for her and her child. In this sense, Saint Joseph is the guardian of the Church. And the Church is the con nua on of the Body of Christ in history. Jesus and Mary his mother are the most precious treasures of our faith. The Church shows a special love for the least of our brothers and sisters as Jesus did, having been taught by St. Joseph. We too, con nue to protect the child and his mother, by our love for the Church. Every poor, needy, suffering or dying person, every stranger, every pris- oner and every infirmed person is “the child.” For this reason, Saint Joseph is invoked as protector of the unfortunate, the needy, the exiles, the afflicted, the poor and the dying. We must learn that same care and responsibility. St. Joseph, A Crea vely Courageous Father, Protector of Children and Mothers, pray for us. (Pope Francis Apostolic Letter Patris corde, 2020, 5. Dec. 8, 2020; 2021), Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown Liturgy Commi ee, Liturgy Office, Mary, Mother of the Church Pastoral Center, 2713 W. Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601. Stewardship Reflec ons October 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (October 10) “The eye of a needle,” in today’s gospel, was a ght passageway into Jerusalem. Travelers with camels passing through had to remove whatever the camel was carrying that was the barrier for entrance. If we look at our own lives, we can probably think of something we carry that holds us back. Maybe it is possessions, material goods or money. Or maybe it is status, pride or control. What will happen when we reach the gate of heaven and we won’t fit into the narrow gate? Jesus doesn’t want our “stuff.” He knows our struggles and gives us many opportuni es to choose Him, to overcome our a achments, and surrender. It could be a tragic event, a rough week, an unexpected expense that depletes our sav- ing, or the loss of material goods. These moments are opportuni es that Jesus allows in our lives to grow in holiness and we should not waste those moments. Pray for the grace to overcome them, don’t pass by these opportuni es and work on cre- a ng moments to detach yourself from your “stuff.” (Stewardship Reflec on, Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc. 2021/09/13)

Sister Margie Memorial Walkway Dedication October 3, 2021 Thanks to Bishop Joseph and the willingness of the Carmelite Community of the Word sisters, the Fulton County Catholic Mission was started here at St. Ste- phen’s. This was a much needed outreach to help people in this community. Sister Margie came to the Mission and our parish in 1989. She made this commu- nity her home from day one, and worked to make everyone's life better if possi- ble. She endeared herself to this parish and helped wherever she could. In 2017, the community honored her at the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce Distinction Awards. Sister Margie worked the many aspects of the Mission such as food, fuel, house- hold bills, transients, Summer Camp, Salvation Army Red Kettle efforts, and of course Christmas Toys for children. She was instrumental as St. Stephen’s parish secretary and managed parish necessities from items needed to celebrate Mass to maintenance/supplies for our buildings. Sister was the energetic bunny who even did mundane things to keep this parish running like setting up before Mass/ cleaning up after Mass, laundering linens/vestments, ordering candles, and of course manning the music computer at Mass. She did the scheduling of the lay people at Mass, and recruited volunteers for special events like covered dish- es/parish picnics. Sister Margie worked closely with Family Life Committee and was very helpful for their fundrais- ing events. Even though Sister is not with us on Earth, she is remembered and missed by all who were touched by her love and care. This grotto and walk are a loving gift from her parish family. RIP Sister. Enjoy your rest with your beloved friends and community sisters. (Written by Pat Frazier)
