Cookies and COVID/Contents This year, due to ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, troops may be considering how girls can safely participate in the 2021 cookie program. Good news: Girls and troops can adapt their participa- tion in the cookie program to include more virtual options that will allow for less physical contact, in- cluding using Digital Cookie and holding virtual booths. Look for the cookie callouts throughout this guide for tips/suggestions about how girls and troops can safely participate even while COVID-19 is present in our communities. As the cookie program gets underway, be sure to go girlscoutshh.org for the most up-to-date COVID-19 guidance. Selling Strategies Girl Scouts have a number of options to reach customers during the Girl Scout Cookie Program ®: Starting February 12th girls can visit or call family members, friends, and neighbors and take orders for cookies. Some families may choose to go contactless and leave door hangers at each household. Troops get cookies from a cupboard (at council offices and locations across the council supplied with cookie inventory) and sell them directly to customers, often at booths in high-traffic areas such as grocery stores, malls, or sporting events. Booth sale times and locations are either organized by our council or arranged by the troop and approved by the Service Unit Cookie Chair. Make sure to review COVID-19 Guidelines and Safety Protocols before any in-person sales. Girls create a customized webpage and send emails with a personalized message to family and friends asking them to buy Girl Scout Cookies®. Customers purchase cookies through the webpage and they are shipped directly to their home (shipping and handling charges apply). Orders appear automatically in eBudde and girls can track their progress and send follow up messages. Girls who have customers that are local and wish to offer them the ease of shopping online without the adding costs of shipping, can recommend the “Girl Delivery” option. Girl Delivery orders after the initial order period can be fulfilled through cupboard transactions along with orders for Cookie Booths or goal-getter sales. Instruct your girls to notify you when they have Girl Delivery sales so you can fill the orders. Enter the transaction in eBudde, pick up with your other transactions, or delegate to the parent or other troop volunteer when to pick up the order and where. The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches 5 ESSENTIAL SKILLS that will ® last a lifetime and help girls develop an entrepreneurial mindset. 5

Donated Orders Not only contactless, but allows the customer to support the girl AND/OR Operation Cookie Drop. Shipped Orders Contactless start to finish, from ordering in the customer’s own home to the product delivered to their door by a delivery driver. Prepaid girl delivery orders/Virtual Cookie Booths Girls can reach customers digitally with their link and not at their door, workplace, or other community setting. Girls could also use a QR code to give to customers instead of door to door order card for a completely contactless sale. Customers place their order online without contact. Customers pre-pay for orders, meaning no need to have an in-person transaction to pay for the cookies. Girls can arrange to leave cookies in a safe place for the customer to retrieve, without needing contact. (But a nice handwritten thank you is a great addition!) Girls could schedule a cookie pickup day or days to allow customers to come by a safe location and get their cookies, put directly in the trunk of their car by the girl without needing close contact. Girls get to thank the customer directly for their support; from 6 feet away and through their mask, of course. In person booth sales/Cookies in Hand (includes drive through booths) Girls can determine a socially dis- tant way to get the customer’s order. Have a menu and place it in a box that is set on the table, talking loudly, sign language, charades…Girls can be creative! For payment, girls can use OCR in the mobile app and have customer place card on the sales table or in a box, scan the card and then back up and let the customer retrieve it. No need to touch the customer’s card. If OCR won’t work, girls can manually enter the number and still not need to touch it. Pull the order and set it on the table and back up or find a creative way to pass it to the customer. Toddler slide? Troop drone? Last Halloween there were so many interesting ideas to deliver candy! For all situations where girls will be interacting with customers, be sure to have hand sanitizer available and used frequently and if girls will be around cars, consider using traffic control devices to ensure safety. Also, be sure to check with your local government for any restrictions around pop-up/drive-thru booths. Before any in-person activity, review GSHH’s COVID-19 Guidelines and Safety Pro- tocols. Check back often as the guidelines are updated frequently. 16
