Children may depart the sanctuary with their teacher for our Summer of Sharing program. They will return to the sanctuary before communion. CALL TO RECONCILIATION The triune God mercifully and graciously invites us into a relationship of wholeness. In humility and truth, let us confess the sin that keeps us from the life God intends. PRAYER OF CONFESSION Triune God, within your own life there is mutuality, equality, and unity in diversity. Though we are made in your image, we confess that we distort the triune life. Instead of seeking mutual welfare and the common good, we seek our own gain. Instead of living in equality, justice, and respect, we construct systems that are unjust. We devise ways to elevate ourselves over others, and disrespectful thoughts, words, and actions still surface in us. We allow differences to divide us and lead to brokenness. Holy God, forgive us. Restore in us, and in our life together, the divine image you intend. Make us tender in mutuality. Make us generous in equality. Make us grateful in diversity. We pray to be one with you and one another, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Silence is kept. POURING OF THE BAPTISMAL WATER Remember your baptism and be thankful! ASSURANCE OF PARDON Friends, we are still standing in the grace of Christ. Because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, we are set free to love God and neighbor, and to work for the reconciliation of the world. We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God! *GLORIA PATRI GREATOREX Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. *PASSING OF THE PEACE Since we have been reconciled to God, let us also be reconciled to one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. And also with you.
*SUNG RESPONSE (Hymn 623) I’ve got peace like a river; I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river in my soul. I’ve got peace like a river; I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river in my soul. I’ve got joy like a fountain… I’ve got love like an ocean… THE WORD PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION Holy, Holy, Holy One, guide us by the Spirit of truth to hear the Word of life as you speak, and to give all glory, honor, and praise to your threefold name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. READINGS FROM SCRIPTURE Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Romans 5:1-5 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. SERMON “Peace with God” Rev. Matt Curry *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Brief Statement of Faith We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. By whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, to have been created,
to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence, for such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of his own glory. THE EUCHARIST INVITATION TO THE OFFERING MUSIC FOR THE OFFERING Peace I Leave With You Philip Young *THE DOXOLOGY (Hymn 606) OLD HUNDREDTH Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise… …who forever sing to the glory of your name: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest! THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
