Issue 5 – September/October 2019 The King’s Chronicle We are pleased to announce that the building of our swimming pool and change rooms is on track and going well! Estimated time of completion will be the first quarter of 2020. A section of the top field has been cordoned off for building to take place. Please note that no learners will be permitted to access the building site while the project is underway. As this area of the school will be a construction site, we ask that you bear with us through this process of expansion. This wonderful addition to our school will be completed before you know it!
Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Spring Festival A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who made the day a success. Every contribution, from sweets and toys, to service on the day, is appreciated. Congratulations to Gr7 LM, our South African team, who were crowned the best stall on the day. Their hard work and creativity managed to bring in R10 010 (in cash ticket sales). We are also very grateful for the following prizes that were donated: Biltong maker Art classes A week’s holiday accommodation in Ballito Surprise hamper Ottimo foot spa Defy drip filter coffee maker
Gr11 Induction In September our Gr11s took their oaths in front of fellow learners, teachers and parents, vowing to serve their school with honour, dignity and a commitment to excellence.
Culture Week Culture Week is always a highlight for our school. Every day of the week had a different theme which allowed us to experience and celebrate the various beautiful cultures that our country has to offer. The High School ended off their week with a First Additional Language (FAL) day where we had a visit from renowned South African artist Dozi, who entertained us in both Afrikaans and IsiZulu!
Grandparents tea “A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.” -- Unknown
Outings and special visits (some of them) Adventures of Hospitality learners High Tea at The Silver Teaspoon Baristas in training Being ‘cheesy’ at The Van Gaalen Cheese Farm
Sport Pre-Primary Mini Athletics Everyone agreed that this year’s Pre- Primary Mini Athletics was full of colour and smiles. The children thoroughly enjoy being outdoors and flexing their muscles! The Grade R learners showed their future potential in the high jump, long jump and turbo javelin events while the younger groups had a lot of fun doing novelty races. A firm favourite for the children is watching their parents throw caution to the wind as they participate in the parents’ sprints. This year we had a Tour de France theme with cyclists starting the day in an exciting bike race. South Africa was the stage winner so we proudly celebrated as we sang our national anthem and waved our flags in victory! Thank you to all the parents who took time off from work to come and enjoy the day with us. We appreciate your support!

This allows her to participate at an international competition in November in Serbia this year and another international competition in Croatia in April 2020.
Staff New King’s kids on the block We are pleased to welcome our youngest members to the King’s family. Ms Sinah Ntuli welcomed a daughter Sinokuhle and Ms Lyndi Liebenberg was blessed with a son, called Theodore. We pray the Lord's richest blessings over your little ones. Our Pre-Primary girls were gifted with the most beautiful African dolls to play with. How amazing that we can celebrate culture in so many different ways.
A massive congratulations to Liam Devenish who was invited to the 2019 Annual Prioritisation Workshop on Global Surgery which will be held in Ghana in November. His attendance will be sponsored by the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Global Surgery based at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Liam was also asked to submit a paper that he authored to the World Journal of Surgery. We honour Liam for his hard work and commitment to improving health in our country. Ms Kayleigh Slogrove, who is also currently teaching IT at our school, has made a valuable contribution to her field as she has been chosen to present her research paper on handwriting analysis at the ICISA conference in South Korea in December. She is the only Honours student that has been selected to go so she will represent both the University of Johannesburg as well as South Africa.
