From James Clarke, Acting Principal Kia ora tatou. We have plans and actions to minimise any negative impact upon students’ success this year. OUR AIM: • We will work to provide opportunities for students to gain the credits/grades they need for success this year so that they can move onto the next stage of their education or career. This will be our key focus for the remainder of this year. • Today, our Principal Mrs Blakely has been part of a discussion with the Ministry of Education • expressing our concerns and seeking guidance for this aim. OUR ACTIONS: • We have ordered devices, modems and hard copy resources for students to do work online. • Heads of Faculties/Departments have adapted programmes to suit them to remote learning. • Where they can be, topics and assessments have been altered to give students a more reasonable chance of success to make up for the loss of on campus direct teaching and learning. • The calendars for courses have been changed to move more theoretical work to now and more practical work to later. • Teachers are working to get students to get assessment work to the point where it can be assessed as soon as we all return to campus. • Make provision for students to catch up and run extra workshops. If you wish to make responses or comments to me, please do so j.clarke@rosehillcollege.school.nz LEVEL 3 RETURN TO CAMPUS DAYS Monday 27 April ANZAC Day observance Term 2 Week 3 Tues 28 April Staff-only Day Day 2 Level 3 Wed 29 April - 1 May Days 3-5 (we lose a Day 1) Level 3 Term 2 week 4 4 - 8 May Days 6-4 Level 3 Fridays are Manaakitanga Tutor Group Days Monday 11 April Govt announcement on any Level change LEVEL 3 RETURN WED 29 APRIL CONDITIONS • Deep cleaning of the School has been undertaken for 4 days • Y9-10 students onsite are only those who cannot be supervised at home and have registered on the recent Survey or now by email to j.herst@ rosehillcollege.school.nz. Thank you to the 620+ families (of 722) who completed our survey indicating intention to attend or not. • Murphys may have a bus but TBC. We will inform anyone who requested bus transport • Wear uniform.Bring sanitiser. Mask if desired. Wash and sanitise hands on arrival and whenever moving to a different room. Bring own food and drink, chromebook, earphones. • Students will be escorted to allocated rooms. • Yrs 9-10 onsite supervised remote work for the day. ‘Bubbles’ of 10 students and 1 teacher supervising not of any particular subject). Remain in those Bubbles for the two weeks. • 3 blocks of work time and two breaks.Breaks remaining 2m apart • Physical distancing - 2 metres outside and 1 metre inside. • Specific toilets allocated to ‘Bubbles’ and cleaned every 2 hours. • Rooms used cleaned & disinfected during and at the end of each day. • Staggered departure at the end of the School day to reduce proximity. CONTACT WITH HOME & SCHOOLWORK Teachers are working hard to be really helpful putting in place opportunities for students to gain success in every subject. They are wanting to contact homes particularly for students who have not yet engaged with the online work. Please be respectful of our teachers who are doing their jobs to give your children the best possible chances to cope with remote education. TUTOR GROUP FRIDAY Today, Friday was our second Tutor Group Focus day where teachers and Heads of House checked on the progress and wellbeing of students. It’s important that people check that others are ok. It allows some designated time away from the demands of schoolwork and a chance to connect with others through challenges and activities that Head Students and House Leaders are providing through Instagram. I applaud all of the families supporting their children for at least a further two weeks. This is a unique time in history and we will create history by having our students achieve all the success possible by the end of this year.
