                                      AGM 7.45pm

After being seriously injured in a school rugby game, GRANT SHARMAN discovered the rest of his
life would be lived as a disabled person. His personality was such that he saw ‘opportunity’ rather
than ‘handicap’ ahead of him, which meant that by 1980 he had completed his first mouth painting
(after being encouraged by a fellow disabled foot and mouth painter.) Over the last four decades
his painting career has brought considerable success.
Sport was always a big part of Grant’s life. After playing wheelchair rugby for NZ, he captained
and coached the Wheelblacks to a gold medal. Grant has been a director of Paralympics NZ, been
involved in a number of charities such as CatWalk, Parafed Auckland, Attitude TV and Starjam. His
hobbies include fishing, classic cars and Philatelie (stamps.)

Everybody welcome at the AGM night and to hear Grant Sharman’s presentation.

Weddings are a specialty, memories matter and I love capturing the essence of personality
using photography for visual story telling. Painting and textile art also lines up with my history
as a multi media artist.

My works have been exhibited in shows and galleries throughout New Zealand. What keeps me
active in the community and business network is providing access to the arts, for those who
have limited access. Creative workshops are increasingly popular with home school groups,
adult learning, birthday events and now expanding into the corporate sector.

Social events:
Rachel comes with significant event experience
and a lot of drive and enthusiasm. As well as
securing a series of special licences to run 19
Sundowner social events during the Prada and
America’s Cup, the club is applying for funding
to refurbish and upgrade the clubrooms and
to re-establish a full club liquor licence. This
will give the community a fantastic location
to socialise on the deck while we watch the
sunset and boats heading home after a day on
the water. They are also planning a range of
water-based social events alongside sailing
activities.

Learn to Sail programme

there was such wholehearted support from Certificates were presented to participants at
local sponsors that the club could reduce the the conclusion of the Learn to Sail programme.

The bone By Bernd Reber
His name was Patch. He was our companion
throughout the eighties, from puppy to eventual
sad good-bye and, one night, he became a hero.

It was an evening like many before, cosy on
the couch, watching telly, with encyclopaedias
spread out on the carpet to get details on
whatever we were seeing. At some point, and
quite uncharacteristically, Patch began to bark.

January has seen us busy with 7 calls 3 Fire / Property and 4 medical.
Major incident
“NZ Post worker hospitalised after dog attack in Waiau Pa, south of Auckland.”
Our First Responders were required to attend to severe injuries to one of our own Fire Fighters.
The community is now short of one responder for several months. Please ensure all dogs are
restrained if an emergency call is made. This is required under Health and Safety rules.
Emergency vehicles
If an emergency vehicle (such as an ambulance, fire engine or police car) is coming towards you
or behind you, and is using sirens and/or flashing red, blue, or blue and red lights, you must pull
over and, if necessary, stop and allow it to pass.
The Fire Siren, Pagers and SMS advise the 24 Fire Fighters and Operational Support members to
report to the Station. All members may respond to the station to man the appliances and organise
resources. All members are volunteers and drive to the station at normal road speed on the three
major access roads. If you stop (or slow) at an incident please pull well to the left to allow the
responding Fire Fighters to pass.

Firstly, Happy New Year, hopefully you have had a great summer break and made
the most of the fine settled weather, even though NIWA were predicting a wet
summer!

Auckland Council has 28 regional parks of around 41,000 hectares. The current Management plan
that was prepared in 2010 in being review and a new daft plan will be out for consultation later in the
year. More information can be found at the following link council’s website.

Watercare dams are currently at 65.5 percent full (72 last month) compared to an average at this
time of year of 86 percent full. Current weekly use is about 11 percent lower compared to the same
week last year. 2020 was the driest year at Watercare’s rainfall indicator site in the Hunua Ranges
since records began in 1962, with 30 per cent less rainfall than normal recordeded. The follow link
has up to date info on dam levels and tips on how to save 20lt a day. https://www.watercare.co.nz/
