Starting January, the course maintenance schedules for both NSRCC Changi and Kranji Sanctuary Golf Course have been revised, with increased playable timings. Instead of the previous 9-holes full-day closure on maintenance days, the closure timings have been reduced Notice to a half day, allowing golfers access to a full 18-hole game in the afternoons. A course maintenance day includes intensive mandatory practices such as hollow-tining, vertical of Town Hall Session cutting, and top dressing. Our course maintenance crew will continue to do their best and maintain the courses in their usual tip-top condition, even with the reduced down time. Following the announcement of the land acquisition made by the Government earlier in 2014, NSRCC conducted two briefing sessions that were held in February and April this year. The club will be hosting its 3rd Town Hall Session on Friday, January 9th 2015, as we are now ready to share the Club future plans after months of dedicated works to get clarity on the parameters of the land-take. Members’ feedbacks have been sincerely taken into account amidst crafting these development plans. This session will be hosted by NSRCC’s Vice-President Mr Teo Eng Dih. Little did they know that the two hours spent at NSRCC would open their worlds to a myriad of roles it takes to run an actual golf & country club daily. I n the month of November & December 2014, NSRCC opened its doors to these students who were greeted by our staff and then introduced to the various aspects of the club through a short presentation on the organisational structure and key facilities. These students were beyond thrilled when they heard about the live demonstration at one of our courses, and the fact that they got to sit on a buggy to get there! The first of the five selected locations was a demonstration by our Course Maintenance team, led by Changi’s Golf Course Superintendent on turf repair, mowing of tee boxes, greens and fairways, raking of bunkers and changing pin positions. Despite being under the sweltering sun, the students were provided with an in-depth look into the hard work it takes to keep our courses in pristine conditions. They were then introduced to the work of our buggy marshals who showed them what happens from the time a golfer drops off their bags, to when they come back after their golf flights. We also had presentations done by our staff on our bungalows, bowling centre, and events management team who showed them the various conference rooms in the club and packages offered. Needless to say, the students left our premises with a good amount of awareness they could then use for their own projects. On our part as the club, we too felt very satisfied by imparting as much of knowledge as we could to these vibrant youths! If you are an educator, or know of someone who is, and would like to explore opportunities with NSRCC for their students to come learn more about club operations, please contact our Corporate Communications division at corpcomms@nsrcc.com.sg.

In teaching, we are always mindful of the power of language and its effect on people. Deletions are when you say not to do holes, as if they were helping to warn me. I fought like a ninja warrior to keep those thoughts out of my head and to focus only on what I wanted my ball to do. Most people do not possess the something instead of what you really should be saying, and mental fortitude to be able to say to themselves, “OK, I see water that is what you actually want that person to do. It is so hard over there to the right, whatever you do, don’t go there. Instead, to do (you should give it a try) but if you can, it will have such go over there, to the left” and then fulfil the second part of that a profound impact on the individual. As teachers, we all have statement. The human brain struggles to separate the do’s from the do not’s. It just picks up the key words, “water hazard” and then the body coordinates itself to fulfil that command. As a tour player many years ago, I was very aware of this. Performance was very much linked to having my mind engrossed in exactly what I wanted the ball to do. There isn’t a caddy on tour that tells his player not to go right because there is a water hazard there. Not one that is employed. They all tell their players what they want them to do with their ball, where they want them to hit it and maybe with any specific shot requirements that is relevant. Smart people, they know about all this stuff. I played in hundreds of Pro-Ams and so many times my amateur playing partners would tell me where all the trouble was on the
