60 people, 10 teams, 2 offices, 48 hours and one challenge: it’s the Verve hackathon! This year was bigger and more ambitious than ever before, with teams going head to head to build something that will generate more demand and traffic to Pollen. And it’s not just the taking part that counts: winning means a Pollen-style trip for the entire team. We hear from some of the teams who took part, and what they’ve created to get themselves on that plane to Cabo...
“Hackathon was a great adventure! Working collaboratively on solutions B EAU Mo N T to real problems was challenging EVP Pollen, Los Angeles and inspiring!” Lukas Aszyk ur all-company hackathons are always a serious O success, and this year’s was no exception. Everyone involved brought so much energy to the table, and really got behind their ideas - and it was great to see the hype move between London and LA as our different offices tuned in and out. But what I found most amazing was the outputs we can achieve when we all get together, and focus our minds on just one chal- lenge. It’s not something we get to do everyday, and it’s quite incredible to see what having a bunch of us in a room can really do. This year’s ideas went so much further than we’ve seen before, looking at how we can create the right content, to forming new partnerships, and even branching into the world of automation. And crucially, all these ideas have the power to make a gen- uine difference, growing our Member base, saving us time and ultimately increasing our revenue. As we continue to scale Pollen, it’s super important that we’re always looking for answers to the challenges the business faces, and it’s getting everyone together like this that’ll really take us to the next level. A massive thank Head of Demand, Pollen UK, London you to all the teams who got involved! e slightly changed the way we did the hackathon this W year, and I have to say I think it’s been one of the best I’ve ever worked on, in any company. Both in terms of engagement and the physical outputs that the teams have created. Everybody has worked so hard, and put so much passion into their ideas. Beforehand, we only gave people the two days to build their idea and it was judged at the end of that - but the problem was that it didn’t give everyone enough time to finish what they wanted to. So this year, we allowed people to submit ideas ahead of the event, then gave them the two days for building, and most importantly, the results don’t actually come out until 31st March. Which means we’ve got much more complex ideas, which can be tweaked and refined throughout the quarter - and will have much more potential to change the game. It was super insightful to see how different people’s minds worked, particularly those who don’t work directly on Pollen. And we’ve had a ton of epic ideas on how to drive more traffic to the top of the funnel and convert more potential members. One idea was “It was a fun and entertaining way an AI tool that scrapes Pollen Members’ Instagram data, to instantly to share ideas and put our heads together to come up with solutions give us thousands of potential new targets, based on their photos, videos, location, age and network, and cut down hours of trawling social media. Another was a way of speeding up conversions by in- centivising new Members to power through their initial onboarding to problems we found with Pollen. I activities and make their first sale in a matter of days (rather than enjoyed pulling together with the team months), automatically giving them bronze Member status. While it’s still been a hackathon and really hard work, it’s been to come up with plans to strengthen very Pollen - authentic, loads of fun, and such a good vibe without Pollen and continue to build brand being too intense. Massive thanks to everyone who got stuck in - very excited to see the results! recognition.” Terry Sanks THE VERVE 12 MAGAZINE THE VERVE 13 MAGAZINE
“I loved working on the winning team, “I loved seeing everyone come together it felt so good to know that I'll be as a whole for the hackathon and working going away on a sick trip creatively on how to drive more for free...” Dan Almeida demand for Pollen. Dylan's idea stood out to Helen and I because it took our roles and changed them into something new and innovative. Plus it was funny af to watch viral videos and look at memes for the majority of the first day!” Rachael Daniel “The hackathon was a truly collaborative experience, I loved seeing the collective Verve/ Pollen mind come to life!” Diana Shvartsberg “The hackathon was so much fun! I was on a great team with a lot of ideas but little tech ability, which was definitely a challenge. However, I think we pulled it off and I am looking forward to booking my winners flights.” Georgia Owen TARGET YOUNG UNDERSTAND WHAT RAMP UP PR EFFORTS BE THE FOMO: ALLOW REFERRAL PROGRAM CREATE QR CODE MAIN CITIES FOR SMRS INTO SOCIAL FAST TRACK MEMBERS, PARTNERS PROFESSIONALS, MAKES OUR MEMBERS IN ORDER TO MEMBERS TO SHARE GAMIFY THE TO SHARE WITH INFLUENCERS MEDIA GENERATION 0 APPLICANTS BASED AND INDUSTRY BRAND MANAGERS, SUCCESSFUL INCREASE DEMAND THEIR POLLEN APPLICATION POTENTIAL MEMBERS AUTOMATION OF THE SPECIALISTS ON THEIR SOCIAL FIGURES TO IDENTIFY AND PROSPECT TEAM-UP: FRIENDS FOR POLLEN IDENTITY TO GIVE PROCESS TO REDUCE DURING EVENTS POLLEN MEMBER LOYAL POLLEN PROFILES NEW PROSPECTS PARTNERS ON THAT SELL TOGETHER, INCENTIVISE FOMO TO PEOPLE WHO THE NUMBER POLLEN BRAND APPLICATION REVIEW CUSTOMERS SKIP THE HACK INSTAGRAM TO LINKEDIN GET REWARDED KEY ACTIVATION AREN'T OF INCOMPLETE ACTIVATION ACROSS PROCESS QUEUE TO JOINING SCALE DEMAND: MAP USE AI TO TOGETHER BEHAVIOURS CREATE A MEMBER APPLICATIONS THE COUNTRY AT VIRAL CONTENT: TURN THE PLATFORM THE NETWORKS OF THE VERVE 14 MAGAZINE THE VERVE 15 MAGAZINE
