The FLASH St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School February 11, 2021 Dear Viking Families, You'll see that there's a lot of information in this Flash, so I'll keep my note short! I want to congratulate our school on being named a 2021 recipient of the Distinguished School of Excellence Award for Catholic Culture in the Diocese of Wichita! It is because of our incredible students, teachers, and staff that our school is a vibrant example of Christianity lived out as it is meant to be. I am consistently blown away by the steadfast faith of so many of you! May we all strive to love like Jesus--a little more each day! God bless, Mrs. Carter

VIKING VOICE As part of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program, teachers are encouraged to have students “journal” during the day. Having students respond to a prompt gives us an opportunity to learn more about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Last week, my prompt for students was, “If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be? Why?” The answers surprised me--the majority of the class said that they would have dinner with their family. Some students said because they loved their family; others because the food is good at home. But most students said because the do not eat as a family often and wish they could spend more time together. Believe it or not, this included ALL of their siblings, parents, and even pets. I know our schedules are busy and it can be di cult to share a meal, but I would encourage you to nd the time to do something as simple as spending a night around the table together more often. - Mrs. Angie Taylor, grade 3 STAY IN THE KNOW
Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest Winners Students recently had the opportunity to participate in a poster contest sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. They were asked to create a poster re ecting the theme of Keep Christ in Christmas and what that means to them. We’re excited to announce that several of the winners selected were from our school. In the Grade K-2 category, Amelia B. took 2nd place and Bennett L. took 3rd place. In the Grade 3-5 category, Aurora M. took 1st place, Christian L. took 2nd place, and Elizabeth I. took 3rd. place. In the Grade 6-8 category, Ezekiel R. took 1st place and Rica B. took 3rd place. Please join us in congratulating these talented Vikings! All the entries from our school are available to view on our school’s Artsonia art gallery here. 2020 Riverfest Tot Trot Art Contest Winner Started back in 1972, the Wichita Festivals Inc. began an annual event in downtown Wichita called Riverfest. There are many events and activities associated with Riverfest, including a fun run for children ages 2 to 7 known as the Tot Trot. Lane Enterprises, the sponsor for Tot Trot, invited local area
schools to participate in an art contest to come up with the event’s t- shirt design. Last March the theme for the art contest was Run Small Fry. The competition was open to any student in grades kindergarten through second, with prizes awarded for the top three designs in each grade division. With the pandemic shutdown, the 2020 Riverfest went virtual and this in turn delayed the awards for the contest prize recipients. But, we are now happy to announce that out of the entries received last year, SFA student Addisyn L. took 3rd place in the Second Grade category! MonArt Classes & Spring Break Camp MonArt drawing classes with a "Jungles of Asia" theme will be held on Tuesdays after school from 3:30-4:45 in Stewardship Hall starting March 2. During Spring Break, MonArt will offer half- and full-day options for camps! Visit www.theartparkwichita.com/classes to enroll online.
