BBICL Objectives

The Big Bash Indoor Cricket League (BBICL) was founded in 2017 by a
diverse group of volunteers, aiming to create a cricket tournament for the
local community, as a non-profit organisation.
The BBICL aims to fulfil the following objectives:
• Get inactive people to become more active
• Develop more resilient sporting habits
• Lead to more positive attitudes amongst young people
• Develop more diverse volunteers
• Improve progression and inclusion in talent development

The BBICL must grow in order to keep up with increasing demand. This will
start with a major revamp of the tournament in 2019, doubling the number
of participants. The Sustainable Plan outlines how we plan to become
financially self sufficient in 2021.

                                                                             3

In line with Sport England’s goals:
Our league contributes to the government’s 5 outcomes:

Physical wellbeing
80+ participants will play an indoor match at least once a week for 12 weeks in winter. Bad
weather will no longer be a barrier to exercise and remain healthy.
Mental wellbeing
Physical activity has many benefits, such as improving mood, boosting self-esteem, reducing
stress and lowering the risk of anxiety and depression.
Individual development
The BBICL will not only help players improve their fitness and cricket skills, but could also
uncover leadership potential, give players better social skills, confidence and self efficacy
whilst reducing anti-social behaviour in the area.
Social and community development
Our area is characterised by its ethnic diversity, however it also suffers from poverty, lack of
opportunities and below average health. Our project will bring people from diverse
backgrounds together, help new migrant communities to integrate and promote social trust.
Economic Development
As the tournament scales up, the economy will benefit from the indirect impact of
participating in sport, such as: reduced healthcare costs due to a healthier population,
reduced crime and improved employability.

2018. For 2019, we will require info-graphics to explain the new cricket rules;
leaflets for raising awareness in the community, among other information.

The use of a Social Media has really expanded this league and we expect it to
play a bigger role in the future. Facebook and YouTube content was the
reason for several new participants in 2018.

We must ensure that our sport keeps pace with the digital expectations of
customers. • Video

YouTube

YouTube footage of gameplay was one of the key highlights of the first year and is one of the
key aspects we want to improve. The benefits of video highlights are endless: it creates
credibility, gives potential sponsors first-hand experience of our league and better prepares
participants for transition to club cricket in many ways:

• Players use video footage to learn from peers and improve their own techniques
• Teams can analyse game footage to develop their tactics. This will create smarter, more
prepared cricketers who work better as teams.
• It allows players to relive good performances which grows confidence.

In order to fulfil these important aspects of player development and promotion, we will be
investing in camera equipment with the funding.

The group is also used to share content such as

under trial by the ECB. This format aims to increase the popularity of cricket in the UK by ‘simplifying’ it.

Overall, The Hundred seems like an interesting proposal and works with our goal of greater participation. The
100-ball format is longer than the 12 overs played in Season 1 and 2, so will give more opportunity to the playing 8.
It is also shorter and faster than traditional T20 so more indoor games can be played in a day.
