Early registration is highly 252-475-5927 recommended. There is a $5 late fee for registering after the Field Conditions, Game program’s registration deadline. Cancellations & Youth We accept cash, check, money order, and credit or debit Center Hours: 252-475-5920 (then press 9) cards for programs with a registration code. To register in person, please call our office to make an appointment.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN REGISTERING: Registration can be done online, or you can make an appointment to register in person. If there are issues with online registration, please call our office for assistance. A program is open until it is full. Once a program is full, children will be placed on a waiting list. If space becomes available, participants on the waiting list will be notified. Participants must meet the age requirement and play at age. Participants will not be allowed to play “up” or “down.” Participants must be Dare County residents. Programs/schedules are subject to change without notice. NEW COVID-19 SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES: All programs will follow all COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. All participants must remain 6 feet or more apart, and when they are not 6 feet apart they must wear a mask. All participants will go through health screenings and temperature checks upon arrival each day, and they must be masked during this process. Please do not send your child to a program if they are not feeling well or if they have been around someone who has been sick or diagnosed with COVID-19. INCLEMENT WEATHER: In case of inclement weather, participants will be notified no later than one hour before the activity is scheduled to begin. There will be no penalties if the program is cancelled due to inclement weather. However, if a participant pre-registers and does not withdraw within 48 hours of the activity, there will be a $10 fee, and you may not be able to register for future programs.
FEBRUARY FAMILY FUN Ages: When: All ages Wednesdays at 4 p.m. & Saturdays at 10 a.m. Cost: $5 per person or $10 per family per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Kelli Miller and Jenna Wienert Where: Class Size: Family Recreation Park Minimum 6. Maximum 48. Details: Come play with us outdoors at Parks and Recreation with socially distanced games for all ages. Get up, get moving, and have fun all together! Pre-registration is required. Payment will be accepted the day of the activity. Payments will NOT be processed online. Wednesday Activities: February 3 - Code: 1643 - Fruit Salad Work as a team to throw and catch in an attempt to gather the most fruit. February 10 - Code: 1644 - Gotcha A game that mixes bowling and dodgeball. February 17 - Code: 1645 - Family Activity Bingo The first family to complete the bingo sheet wins. A cell phone or digital camera will be needed. February 24 - Code: 1646 - Silly Family Olympics Find out what quarantine has taught us in these silly games. Saturday Activities: February 6 - Code: 1647 - Family Scavenger Hunt Run around Rec Park and figure out the hints to be the first one back to win. February 13 - Code: 1648 - Ninja Course Are you fast? Then come compete as you climb, jump and crawl through our course. February 20 - Code: 1649 - Bocce Play Learn how to play the fun sport of Bocce. February 27 - Code: 1650 - Color the Park Come color with chalk with us as we make a mosaic under the picnic pavilion.
3 BALL CODE: 1651 Ages: When: 8 and up Thursday, February 4 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per individual or $10 per family per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Nate Hall and Acra Styron Where: Family Recreation Park Class Size: Minimum 10. Maximum 20. Details: This zany game mixes kickball, football and frisbee. One at a time, players will stand at home plate and throw a football and frisbee, as well as kick a kickball, as far as they can. Once they have thrown/kicked all three objects, the player runs around the bases. While that is occurring, the opposing team attempts to get all the objects to home plate before runners cross home plate or advance around the bases. Runners stop where they are once the opposing team returns all three objects to home plate. Pre-registration is required. Payment will be accepted the day of the activity. Payments will NOT be processed online. CODE: ULTIMATE FRISBEE 1652 Ages: When: 8 and up Thursday, February 11 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per individual or $10 per family per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Nate Hall and Acra Styron Where: Family Recreation Park Class Size: Minimum 10. Maximum 20. Details: Frisbee toss and football collide in this widely popular game. Teams line up on either side of the field, and one team “kicks off” by throwing the frisbee to the opposing team. The receiving team picks up the frisbee and begins to advance the frisbee down the field by passing back and forth among teammates. If the team drops the frisbee or the defending team intercepts or knocks down the frisbee, then they have possession of the frisbee and the field flips direction. This is a fun, fast-paced game. DODGEBALL CODE: 1653 Ages: When: 8 and up Thursday, February 18 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per individual or $10 per family per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Nate Hall and Acra Styron Where: Family Recreation Park Class Size: Minimum 10. Maximum 20. Details: This gym class favorite will be played outside on our tennis courts. Teams will attempt to get opposing players out by throwing dodgeballs at them. Fun will be had by all! Pre-registration is required. Payment will be accepted the day of the activity. Payments will NOT be processed online. CODE: QUIDDITCH 1654 Ages: When: 8 and up Thursday, February 25 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per individual or $10 per family per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Nate Hall and Acra Styron Where: Class Size: Family Recreation Park Minimum 10. Maximum 20. Details: Yes, you read that correctly: quidditch has arrived at Parks and Recreation! Recently approved for Muggles, this game is quickly gaining popularity and is even played at the collegiate level. A quidditch team is made up of several athletes who play with brooms between their legs at all times. Each team will have one seeker, three chasers, two beaters and one keeper. While the game can appear chaotic to the casual observer, once you are familiar with the basic rules, you’ll find that quidditch is an exciting sport to watch and an even more exciting game to play. Players must bring their own broom, and a scarf is highly recommended. Pre-registration is required. Payment will be accepted the day of the activity. Payments will NOT be processed online.
FAMILY YARD GAMES Codes: February 2 - Code: 1655, February 9 - Code: 1658, February 16 - Code: 1656, February 23 -Code: 1657 Ages: When: 6 and up Tuesdays (February 2, 9, 16 & 23) 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $2 per individual or $5 per family per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Nate Hall and Acra Styron Where: Class Size: Family Recreation Park Minimum 6. Maximum 20. Details: Family Yard Games is fun with outside games for the whole family. We will have at least six popular yard games available to play such as cornhole, ladder golf, can jam, giant Jenga, horseshoes and a putting machine. Payment will be accepted the day of the activity. Payments will NOT be processed online. YOUTH PICKLEBALL Codes: February 6 - Code: 1659, February 13 - Code: 1660, February 20 - Code: 1661, February 27 - Code: 1662 Ages: When: 8 and up Saturdays (February 6, 13, 20 & 27) 11 a.m. to noon Cost: $5 per individual per day. Instructors: Payment will be taken the day of the activity. Jenna Wienert and volunteers from our local pickleball group Where: Family Recreation Park Tennis Courts Class Size: Minimum 6. Maximum 12. Details: Come learn the fastest-growing sport in America. This fun game is a paddle ball sport (similar to racquet sport) that combines elements of badminton, table tennis and tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, much like a wiffle ball, with 26-40 round holes, over a net. Payment will be accepted the day of the activity. Payments will NOT be processed online.
OTHER PROGRAMS: OBX BASEBALL REGISTRATION OPENS MONDAY, JANUARY 18 For more information, visit: http://obxbaseball.sportssignup.com/site/ Play ball! OBX Baseball Spring Registration will open on Monday, January 18, 2021. Sign up as soon as possible as a strong turnout is expected this year. OBX BASEBALL SPRING SKILLS DAY IS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2021 Skills Day for the Spring 2021 OBX Baseball League will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Kitty Hawk Elementary School. Times are as follows: Major League (ages 11/12) - 1 p.m. on the Ash Jones Field Minor League (ages 9/10) - 3 p.m. on the Ash Jones Field Rookie League (ages 7/8) - 1 p.m. on the OBX Baseball Back Field Rookie League (6 years old) - 3 p.m. on the OBX Baseball Back Field Players will be assigned to teams the following week, and practice will begin on March 1.
