Page Three Easter Sunday of The Resurrection of the Lord April 4, 2021 Fr. Ken’s Corner Dear Brothers and Sisters of Saint Rose of Lima Parish, A number of months ago, as we neared the celebration of the birth of Jesus, I said that last year as much as ever, we “NEED A LITTLE CHRISTMAS, RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT.” After the rigors and semi- isolation, all of the sickness and death of the past 13 months, today as we celebrate the Wonder of the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, EASTER SUNDAY, I continue that theme, “ALLELUIA! WE BRING YOU THE JOYOUSNESS OF EASTER – ALL THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR, WE BRING YOU A BLESSED EASTER TO CELEBRATE NEW HOPE AND CHEER.” For me, one of the most beautiful and moving sentences in scripture that brings hope and cheer is from Luke’s gospel, Chapter 24. We are told that on Easter morning at dawn, as the women are seeking to anoint the body of Jesus, they find the tomb empty. They are told by two men in brilliant clothes, “WHY SEEK THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD? THIS JESUS YOU SEEK IS NOT HERE; HE IS RISEN AS HE SAID.” Easter is that ultimate day of hope for the present and for the future. For without the Gift of Easter, we have no Christian faith. Paul tells the Christians of the city of Corinth, who seem to question Christ’s rising, that if Christ was not raised, then the dead are not raised and if the dead are not raised, then we are to be the most pitied of people for we are still dead in our sins. Yet this is why we gather with so special a joy – DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY. It is the absolute victory of Jesus Christ who has conquered death and the darkness of the grave, and it is Jesus Christ who calls each of us to hear his voice on that last day when the “TRUMPET SHALL SOUND AND THE DEAD SHALL BE RAISED INCORRUPTIBLE.” On this Easter Sunday, each of us should think of those loved ones who have died, and we hope and pray are at rest. Like you, I have many happy memories of my grandparents, my dad, various aunts, uncles and cousins who have passed from life on this earth to be with God. We think of the hundreds upon hundreds of saints who have been recognized as enjoying the beatific vision – that is, seeing God face to face. Most of us have some kind of holy card reminding us of their goodness with their picture and a special prayer. Yet, with the exception of our Blessed Mother Mary who we celebrate on the Solemnity of the Assumption (August 15), none of those very holy men and women have been taken both Body and Soul into Our Lord’s heavenly kingdom. However, that is what Easter promises to us. And this is why our joyful celebration of Easter each year is so very important. We celebrate the bodily resurrection of Jesus from the dead – not just his spirit, not just his soul, but the entire person who is both Word of God and who walked the earth as one of us; who suffered, laughed and cried, who was crucified and died. Breaking the chains of death, Jesus’ body is now glorified in such a way that he can appear to the apostles in the Upper Room though the doors were locked, joyfully recognized as his very self. And he can also appear to his two disciples walking to Emmaus and remain unknown. Not earthly life, but heavenly life. That’s the first part of our joy and wonder. The second part which makes this Easter Day the first of all days is that Jesus promises that the same will also happen to us. Through the power of God who raised Jesus from the dead, we will also be given that same glorified and divinized body. So to each and every person who is here in church today, for all those who are also participating through the wonders of live-streaming, with all of the priests, deacons and staff of St. Rose, I say “Alleluia” and I wish you all a BLESSED EASTER AND ALL THE JOYS OF THE 50 DAYS OF THE EASTER SEASON.

Page Ten Easter Sunday of The Resurrection of the Lord April 4, 2021 DIVINE MERCY Sunday Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 3:30 PM Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a special day when “all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened.” Our Lord made a great promise to all those souls who would go to Confession and then receive Him in Holy Communion on the Feast of His Mercy, now called Divine Mercy Sunday. The Image of The Divine Mercy, which Our Lord requested to be solemnly blessed and venerated on this day, will be on display in our church. Pope John Paul II said that the image portrays the Risen Jesus Christ bringing Mercy to the whole world. Our Lord said “I want the image to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.” Please take time to visit with this Image of The Divine Mercy. Join us in the Church or livestreamed for a Holy Hour Sunday, April 11 Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet 3:30 - 4:30 pm Jesus said to St. Faustina, "I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the cross. …Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him.”

Page Twelve Easter Sunday of The Resurrection of the Lord April 4, 2021 Spiritual God-Parent Program In 1973, a Supreme Court decision was rendered legalizing abortion throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy. This decision, Roe v. Wade, is the reason why an estimated 62 million babies have lost their lives since then. This enormous number of deaths can be overwhelming for us. Each of us wonders what one person can do to end this horrible tragedy in our nation. WE CAN PRAY! We at St. Rose have begun our 21st Annual Spiritual God-Parent Program. Not all of us are called to participate in marches or pro-life vigils, but all of us can make a commitment to a one-minute prayer each day for nine months, for the intention of saving a baby who is in jeopardy of being aborted. This is an opportunity to involve your children. Teach them how precious life is. Select your baby’s name and sponsor him or her as a family. Pledge cards are available in the church (located on the altar rails) for you to sign, committing yourself and your family to pray for your named unborn baby for the next nine months. You can also pledge by cutting out and completing the coupon below and dropping it off in a designated basket found in the church (hold on to the Prayer portion of the Coupon for your daily use). If you are unable to get to church, you can simply email the name of your sponsored child to pveltre@optonline.net, and a pledge card will be created for you. We will update your baby’s development each month in the bulletin and will conclude in October with a Baby Shower in which all gifts will be donated to Birthright. Your prayers will help a woman contemplating abortion to choose LIFE over death. Please share the gift of LIFE given to us by our Heavenly Father and join us in this commitment. Retain and say this one-minute prayer each day SPIRITUAL GOD-PARENT PRAYER Lord Jesus, today I lift up in prayer the life of __________________, an unborn child. I ask you to protect and shield this child from all harm. Mary and Joseph, I ask your intercession for the parents of this child, that God would shower His love and mercy upon them and guide them at this difficult time. May He send His Spirit to empower them to choose life. I am confident, Lord, that my prayer is heard today, and I trust that you are at work in this and every circumstance. Thank you, Lord Jesus! … Amen Return this portion to the designated basket in church or email your baby’s name to pveltre@optonline.net SPIRITUAL GOD-PARENT PLEDGE COUPON I (we) promise to spiritually sponsor an unborn baby in danger of being aborted by daily reciting the above prayer for the life of that child from this day to his or her birth in October of this year. The name I (we) select for my (our) unborn baby is ____________________________________________
