A PUBLICATION OF OUR LADY OF THE CEDARS MARONITE CATHOLIC CHURCH, HOUSTON, TEXAS ALMAHABA VOLUME 21 ISSUE 1 EASTER 2013 The Power of His Resurrection! by: Fr. Milad As we walk with Jesus through his passion, death and resurrection, it is a good time for us to immerse ourselves in this sacred journey and deepen our commitment to following the path of Jesus day by day. The scripture story is not just about the journey of Jesus. It is about our journey and how we live the message in our world today. It is bringing hope, healing, and peace to a world that is greatly in need of such gifts. The story of the resurrection is not only about God's power in raising Jesus from the dead, it is about our having access to that same power at all times. Easter invites us to look deep within our own lives, our community life and our world. The promise that is offered to us by Jesus is that everyone can have life and have it in abundance. We know there are daunting challenges. There are never-ending wars, failed relationships and political conflict. We see that our world is moving away from the Lord Jesus. We must keep in mind that Jesus is at the door of our hearts asking for admittance. We are called to live with a spirit filled with the power of His resurrections. We have God's promise that we will never walk alone. We need to take time each day to get in touch with the spirit within us, to draw on that power and to pray that the stones in our lives will be rolled away. Are we ready to allow this to happen? Are we ready to allow Jesus to bring hope, peace and justice to our lives? We are told by St. Paul that God has raised Jesus from the dead and that he will also raise us up by the same spirit that dwells in us. This promise of life everlasting gives us great hope. We will live a life that continues beyond the grave with our loving God forever. Easter is a time to deepen our faith. Pope Benedict XVI has called us to live and renew our faith. He said, “Faith must be lived in truth and justice honest and open dialog on an ecumenical level and through works of justice and peace”. The Pope believes a renewal of faith would give new energy to the whole Church and lead us out of the desert we are often in and toward a deeper friendship with Christ who gives us fullness of life. Through the power of the resurrection, a new light will shine in our minds and hearts, directing us toward a new way of thinking and relating, of begin and doing and resolving problems in such a way as to bring life to our wounded world. May the hope and energy of Easter fill our minds and hearts as we welcome that life-giving presence of God who guides and sustains us every step of the way. Happy Easter!
