St Patrick’s Primary School Together in Faith & Learning Week 8 Term 1 2021 What will I be convicted of this Easter? Easter is drawing near. At school we are retelling the Easter story, our story of salvation, to your tamariki. It is not a nice story. It is a story of love, of acts of kindness to others and of bullies, of violence and death. Death in a cruel and sadistic way. We know the ending thankfully, Jesus rises from the dead. If that didn’t happen, we certainly wouldn’t want our children to watch or read about what went on immediately before the resurrection. Yet it is an important part of what Jesus did for us. He died in a horrible disgusting way. What is more, he knew what would happen to him if the religious leaders handed him over to the Romans. Every little town had a crucified person or two at the main gates, to help the people remem- ber who is ruling them. Yet, Jesus still chose to stand up for what he believed in, knowing the type of death he would experi- ence. That is the part that I am most in awe of Jesus. A true bro-mance!! If standing up for an ideal or for someone else was a crime, punishable by death, would there be enough evidence today to convict me? What about during the last week? What would I be found guilty of? Maybe guilty of ‘wanting to do something, but not actually doing it’. Maybe we could be found guilty of talking about doing something, but not actually doing it? Jesus calls us to love unconditionally all people, starting with ourselves. Let’s go out and be guilty of supporting others, treating people respectfully, not judging others and loving ourselves. The Easter story isn’t just about Jesus. It is living out in a body called you, today. Blessings Tony Uniforms Thanks so much for the effort that all of you are going to. It looks so good seeing all of our tamariki in the correct uniform. Please send a note, if your child has to wear something else for the day. Hats Next term and term 3, hats aren’t compulsory. Your child can still wear them if they wish to. Term 4 hats are compulsory again. Terms 2 & 3 PE clothes on Friday. (Or normal school uniform if you haven’t got the correct PE uniform) The school has a new PE top (last year). Some students still fit their old blue cotton PE top. As long as it fits, we are happy for them to wear it. Black, red, patterned shirts aren’t appropriate. The school PE top lasts a long time. They are easy to wash and wear well. You can try one on at the school office and then buy one online or from the NZ Uniform shop in Thorndon Quay. We go to the ASB centre on Fridays in terms 2 and 3. It makes sense to wear the PE uniform to school on that day. Homework Please check with your child’s teacher about this. Safety Reminder: Please do not drop your child/ren off in the car by our top gate, this is a safety issue as small children cannot be seen as you back out. This is also a very busy foot traffic area. Please be vigilant about this. The safest place to drop your children off is in the Church car park, we are lucky to have this park so close to school. Also a timely reminder to pick your child/ren up from the school playground don’t wait in the parish car park for the children to come to you. This is a safety issue for the children walking behind cars.

WRITING EXAMPLES FROM SOME OF OUR CHILDREN: Snoop dog raps about our Pollution Hi, my name is Snoop, and I will be rapping about the pollution we make. “Pollution affects over a million persons, with every piece of trash, the situation worsens. We’ve got to rethink make a plan, we’ve got to reuse the things we can. Also, we’ve got to face it, we could never replace it, our future is looking dim un- less we erase it. Stop filing our air with pollution, why is there such confusion? There’s already a solution, Is this a new type of human evolution?” That is wat I call a Rap Snoop By Beanel WALT: Identify different introductions to a story Here are some examples: On a dark misty night, Catherine McAuley heard a scream then a cry of a child being put into the world of poverty, oh great she thought sarcastically I am going to use my fortune to save the kids from poverty no matter how much people judge me. Natnael Keleab In Ireland there was a big City called Dublin. Where there were poor people and people suffering from starvation. People dying from extremely horrible diseases this is sad story will truly touch your heart. Hearmeala Yigezu Have you ever done something nice even if everyone thinks its stupid? This is Catherine McAuley's, founder of the sisters of mercy, born in September 29 1278 in Dublin Ireland, and this is her story Javier Romero
Happy Birthday to You! This fortnight we pray for the following children who have celebrated or will celebrate their birthdays this year. We are a Positive Behaviour for Learning School. We encourage our children to be Go getters, this means that they are ready to learn, respectful of people and property and take responsibility for their actions. Ask your children about our new traffic light system that encourages our students to take on leadership and make good choices. This is how our Traffic light system works: • Every class uses the Traffic Light system to monitor DAILY student behaviour. • Every student starts on the green zone each day. • When a student makes positive choices, in particular the ones that you are focusing on that week, THEY get to move their name up to pink – great choices! If throughout the day a student continues to make positive choices, ( we link these choices to our PB4L values, the 3RS of being ready to learn, responsible for actions , respectful of people and property) then the student moves up to the yellow light and is a Go getter for the day. Those on Go Getters 2 or more times a week get to take home a special certificate that acknowledges their efforts. Go Getter certificates are presented in assembly and acknowledged in the newsletter. So keep an eye out for certificates coming home so we can all celebrate your child/ren’s success.
