WHY CHOOSE OAK Why should you #Choose OAK? The answer is simple: because your success matters. We are a growing uni- versity in Zambia that is creating a niche for ourselves and our students in the digital age. We strive to be a paperless institution that has digital platforms at the centre of its operations, student support services and student instruction. This means that you will always be able to achieve the best for yourself in an environment that make it easier for you to learn and navigate the university ecosystem. How is this possible? Well, we have many different ways of teaching and learning at OAK. So, you can always find additional notes, tips and resources online or practice your skills and use your knowledge in practical classes or by making a difference and helping with community work. We have support in place to help you to graduate on time, ready for the workplace or able to start your own business. ON CAMPUS What to expect: We pride ourselves on producing well-rounded, creative graduates who are responsible, productive citizens and future leaders. To be one of these graduates and to have these qualities starts within you at school. We recommend that you choose subjects in Grade 9 that will help to give you the basis for the career field that you want to enter when you choose OAK. Remember to choose a programme for a career in a field that suits your strengths, interests and passions. 3 Oak University | ON CAMPUS
Campus Life: Your academic success is important, but university life is also about having fun and exploring your talents to be a well-rounded graduate who is ready for the world beyond university. At OAK, we shall nurture that experience by ex- posing you to a vibrant student life that involves the arts, cultural, sporting, and even academic extramural activities that you can participate in. We encourage all our students to give back and build up experience through our community engagement projects. Student Support: Student life can sometimes be a bit stressful when you have to juggle a high-volume workload and a host of other responsibilities. Remember, if you’re having trouble of any sort, speak to a friend, ask your lecturers and tutors for help if you don’t understand something in class and your student liaison officer (SLO) would be able to help you plan your academic journey. We will assist you by providing guidance and counselling when you need it. Integrity, Truth and Strength Our Motto 4 Oak University | ON CAMPUS

ONLINE RESOURCES Thanks to the Internet, we have an entire world of information and resources at our fingertips–and sometimes that feels like both a blessing and a curse. One of the greatest struggles for many students and teachers, if we’re being honest — is staying organized and on-task in this sea of information, and although there is an abundance of apps and software that promise to assist in this endeavor, more often than not, they just add to the distracting background noise and create more digital clutter. “Using technology for learning makes sense. Technology creates access, transparency, and opportunity. Any smartphone or tablet is media incarnate–video, animation, e Books, essays, blog posts, messages, music, games. The modalities of light, color, and sound all arranged just so to communicate a message or create an experience,” said Terry Heick. “But there is a difference between using technology and integrating it deeply into the learning experiences of students.” At OAK we strive to meet this high goal with the online tools we avail to our students. • https://betterexplained.com/ a free resource that seeks to explain mathematical concepts through quick visuals • https://quizlet.com/ a free study app for digital flashcards to memorize, review, and learn new ideas • https://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm a collection of MIT’s free course materials for public use • https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page a Wikipedia-sourced platform for free online course materials • https://www.open.edu/openlearn/ a free learning platform, delivered by The Open University • https://alison.com/ 9 Oak University | ONLINE RESOURCES
