Page 1 Plimmerton School Newsletter - Week 9, Term 2, 2018 From the Principal Tēnā Koutou SCIENCE LIVE - Mana, Hongoeka and Taupō syndicates held their “Science Live” afternoon on Tuesday. It was excellent to see so many parents with their children sharing their learning and their scientific knowledge. I certainly enjoyed learning about rockets, physics, space travel, and the nature of planets. Apparently if I lived on on Jupiter I would only be 5 years old! From what I saw I think there are some future astrophysicists here at Plimmerton School. REMINDER: MATARIKI CONCERT - Our Matariki concert will be held on Thursday 5th July at 6:30. Matariki is about celebrating whānau and the coming year, and Mana and Kowhai syndicates would love to invite you to this concert to share what they have been doing within their music and kapa haka programmes. SWEETS, the senior school wind ensemble will be performing. The Mana and Kowhai students will have artwork on display in the hall and parents are encouraged to view their work before or after the concert. Due to the senior school currently practising for their production, Hongoeka and Taupo syndicates will not be participating in a Matariki concert this year, however some Hongoeka and Taupō students will be supporting the tamariki o Mana and Kōwhai syndicates. The senior school will be cooking up some hupa (soup) and bread to sell on the night for a gold coin donation. Soup will be served from 5:45 and is available from the Hongoeka deck. LAST DAY OF TERM - As a treat for the last day of the term, Friday 6 July, The Goodtime Music Academy will be visiting our school with a show designed to inspire kids of all ages to have fun and develop their own personal musical talents!!! The staff of the Goodtime Musical Academy provide mobile music lessons and perform for schools and believe that their musical skills are a gift, not to be kept to themselves, but to be passed on to others. The show is free for students. MID-YEAR REPORTS AND INTERVIEWS - Mid-Year Interviews will be held on the evenings of Tuesday 31 July and Thursday 2 August (Week 2 Next Term). Mid-Year Reports will be shared at the interviews. The main aim of the interviews is to share students’ recent achievement information and to discuss next steps in learning. Please note that students who started school during term 2 will not receive a report, but parents are welcome to book an interview time. Interviews can be booked online parentinterviews.co.nz. Enter the code T6KSRXHL and follow the instructions to book your interviews. If booking interviews for more than one child, please avoid booking back to back interviews. We are expecting that interviews will be held for every student and students are encouraged to attend with their parents. If you are unable to book your interviews online please contact the school office for assistance.
