Desborough College Academy Trust Behaviour for Learning Policy Corona Virus Addendum Ready, Respectful, Safe January 2021 Version 2 Review frequency 6 months Date of next review May 2021 Responsible Officer Maggie Callaghan
1. Scope This addendum applies until further notice. It sets out changes and exceptions to our normal Behaviour for Learning Policy. Pupils, parents and staff should continue to follow our policy with respect to anything not covered in this addendum. We may need to amend or add to this addendum as circumstances or official guidance changes. We will communicate any changes to staff, parents and pupils. 2. Expectations for pupils in school 2.1 Gateway School From 5th January 2021, parents were asked to keep their children at home and schools would need to offer remote learning until at least mid-February. Schools were directed to remain open only for children of key workers and vulnerable children. When those designated pupils are in school, we expect them to sign up and follow all of the rules set out below to keep themselves and the rest of the school community safe. • Arrive punctually at the designated arrival time and enter by the main gate • Do not ride bikes on the school site. Walk them, park them, lock them. • Ensure you keep 2 metres between you and other students and staff and wear face masks in communal areas when moving about and in the classroom if you wish • Mobile phones may be used as a learning tool only • Once you are on site, you will be expected to stay until the session has ended and complete remote learning work and join live lessons • Follow hygiene recommendations. Use hand sanitiser as you enter the classroom and before and after lunch and break. • Remain at your work area – if there is a problem with your computer, ask the supervising member of staff for help • Ensure you follow the instructions of all staff on site • Please make sure the language you use on site is respectful • Please cough and sneeze into a tissue • Please ensure you socially distance in the canteen and use the block of toilets as instructed • If you feel unwell during the day, please notify a member of staff immediately and do not come to school at all if you feel unwell before you arrive • All other normal school rules apply including expectations regarding online behaviour while working remotely 2. Expectations for pupils working remotely at home 3.1 Remote learning rules If pupils are not in school, we expect them to follow all of the rules set out below as well as pupils in school working online. Parents should also read the rules and ensure their children follow them. Parents should contact Ms Callaghan if they think their child might not be able to comply with some or all of the rules, so we can consider alternative arrangements with them and support them with their learning.
Remote Learning expectations • Pupils must log on daily to tutor time and all subsequent lessons on Teams. Teachers will register pupils, if a pupil has not logged on by 5 minutes after the start time of the session, they will be marked as late. • Pupils must follow all instructions given by their teacher • Their camera must be switched off and they must remain muted unless asked/unmuted by the teacher – this is for safeguarding reasons. • The chat function on Teams must be used responsibly and as directed by the teacher. Offensive language is never permitted on chat or in person. Teams is not a social media site and is used by Desborough College to facilitate learning. Therefore, the same expectations apply online as in school. • Pupils must complete work and submit it as directed by their teacher. • Pupils should seek help if they need it from their teachers or learning support assistants – they can do this via email or Teams chat. • Pupils should let teachers know if they cannot complete their work for any reason • Pupils must always conduct themselves appropriately when online and use appropriate language at all times • Pupils must not invite others to join their class on Teams and or in any way disrupt the lesson and learning of others • Pupils must not join lessons that are not their own. 3.2 Rewards and Sanctions Desborough College will continue to use Classcharts to record positive and negative points. If pupils do not follow the rules around remote learning as set out above, then a range of sanctions will be used. Parents will receive a text notification if their son does not register for tutor time at 8.45 am from our Attendance Officer. Parents will also be able to check on Class Charts if their son has registered for all his lessons. The Head of Year will follow up absences from lessons as well as any non-engagement with lessons as reported by subject teachers. If pupils post offensive comments or in any way cause remote learning to be disrupted to the detriment of other learners, then the teacher has the facility to eject the pupil from the Teams lesson. A member of the Leadership Team will subsequently speak with the pupil concerned, and depending on the severity of the offense or repeat offenses, the pupil could be excluded for a fixed term from online lessons. Please see the rewards and consequences ladders in appendix 1. 4. Monitoring arrangements We will review this policy as guidance from the local authority or Department for Education is updated, and as a minimum every 3 weeks during term time by the Leadership Team. 5.
