This is Week 2 of 10 in Term 4 2020! Kia ora te whānau, Pink Shirt Day 2020! I hope you think the photo on the front cover is amazing...because that took some doing! We thought we would make the huge spiral with all the children in it, like we have done in the foyer with photographs. Great idea! We think it looks brilliant and with the children all with linked arms it was a wonderful way to show our identity as a school and our unity regarding the purpose of PINK SHIRT DAY. That is, that we be Upstanders, not bystanders when it come to bullies. The messages are clear. Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying! Awhi/support the person experiencing the bullying and encourage them to get help. Distract– interrupt the bullying in some way e.g. by going for a walk with them but help them to leave the situation they are in. Call it– use your word to tell the bully it is not OK, don’t stand by and watch. Leave and act– if you don’t feel safe, move away and later ask the person how you might help. Get some help– support the person by getting help from others, family, teachers or a trusted adult and act on their advice. Did you know that more than half 57% of bullying situations stop when someone intervenes. Christian Values Education: This will continue as more than 50% of returned forms were affirmative/yes to continuing, (54% YES 46% NO) Therefore the programme will be reviewed again in 12 months. A reminder that this is now an opt in programme rather than an opt out one. Y6 Parents: Today you will receive a letter home with information about Y7/8 in 2021. Please confirm your child’s place for 2021 on the form included and return to school asap as we are organising classes for 2021 now. TEACHER ONLY DAY - MONDAY 30th NOVEMBER: We have had BOT approval to have a Teacher only day on the 30th November to plan for 2021. This day is the third of eight days we were given as part of our collective Agreement negotiations with NZEI.
