05th July 2020 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time -Year A Congratulations We warmly congratulate Mary and Ian King who celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on 27 June. They were married in St Patrick’s Church in Napier by Father Tom O’Connor sm. Mary and Ian have been loyal and faithful Parishioners of St Thomas More all their married life. They have worked tirelessly in so many roles for the Parish over this time. We warmly congratulate them and wish them every blessing and happiness on this wonderful milestone. May God bless them abundantly. Priestly Ordination We also congratulate Father Mike Wooller sm, who celebrated his 50th anniversary of priestly ordination last Tuesday. Father Mike was ordained at St Mary of the Angels Church in Wellington on 30 June 1970. He has worked in education and Parish ministry in both New Zealand and for many years in Fiji. We thank God for Father Mike’s faithful ministry over this time. Many of us Marists were able to gather with Father Mike and his family last Tuesday to celebrate with him. Father Damian celebrates 40 years of priestly ordination today. While it is traditional in the Society of Mary to only celebrate 25 and 50 years we acknowledge Father Damian’s 40 years today and thank God for his ministry in Parishes over these years. Apostleship of the Sea Next weekend the Church celebrates ‘Sea Sunday’. It is an opportunity for us to increase our awareness of this wonderful work. We have many volunteers here in the Napier Catholic Apostleship of the Sea Ministry who look after the welfare of many visiting seafarers when they arrive in port. More information on this work will be provided in next week’s newsletter. At the end of Mass next week we will have the bi-annual retiring collection to help with the financial support for this work. School Holidays We wish all our students and teachers a very happy and safe holiday. It has been a challenging year with COVID-19 and we pray you have a relaxing break. Father Barry Scannell s.m.
