1 May to July 2019 A Word from Sally Hello Everyone, Firstly I would like to offer a huge thanks to everyone who contributed to our recent 30+ party. We had a wonderful day and it was great to see some faces from the past, TOMNET did a great job cooking the BBQ as usual. A big thanks to Allison Page who put in countless hours, typing, testing and editing our cookbook. Allison has done a fantastic job, and we really appreciate the effort that she has put into the book. If you would like to order a book please contact the centre. According the Australian Institute for Health and Welfare 1 in 2 Australians are diagnosed with Cancer before the age of 85, so everyone knows someone who has been affected by Cancer. This morning tea is to raise funds to help people who are affected by Cancer, so come along enjoy some fabulous food, great company and support the community. It is being held on Wednesday the 15th of May from 10.30 am until 12 pm, everyone is welcome. We are hosting an Info-fest along with Energy Savvy and the Be Connected Program at the centre on the 18th of July from 10.30 am until 2 pm. The day will have information about the programs as well as a host of other service providers with information on all things technology based. Come along and find out what you can do online, how to access services online and how to stay safe online. There will be a free lunch on the day and raffles as well. One is included in the newsletter from our lovely volunteer Nancy Hardwick that runs the Stroke Brain Injury support group. Thanks again to Allison for all of her hard work!

It combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing (pranayama) which brings in more oxygen to the body and brain making one feel more energetic and healthy. You don't need great sense of humor to laugh; you can laugh even if you're not happy. In fact, you can laugh for no reason – with Laughter Yoga. Learn how being online can help you connect with the community and how technology can enhance your life. There will be lots of information and people as well as other service providers on the day to help you become savvier about all sorts of technology and how to save money on your electricity bills. Nobody stood up so the teacher said, "I'm sure there are some stupid students in this class!" At this point Little Johnny stood up. The teacher said, "Oh Johnny! So you think you're stupid then?" Little Johnny replied, "No, I just felt bad that you were standing up on your own."
13 Harmony Playgroup The Harmony playgroup are a group of parents and kids (zero to five years old), that get together to teach and learn the Spanish language and culture and other languages and cultures. We sing, dance, play, and do crafts and all sorts of other activities. Come and join us for a morning of fun and make new friends. Non-Spanish speaking families are welcome to join in! 15 WEEKENDER BISCUITS Nancy Hardwick Preheat oven to 180°C You will need: 125g butter ⅓ cup caster sugar 1 egg A few drops of essence eg vanilla or lemon ⅔ cup sultanas 1 cup self-raising flour 2 cups lightly crushed cornflakes Biscuit tray How to make it: 1. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. 2. Add the egg and beat well. 3. Fold in the flour and sultanas and mix well. 4. Drop teaspoonfuls of mixture into cornflakes and roll lightly. 5. Place on a lightly greased biscuit tray (allow room for spreading). 6. Bake for 20 minutes. Things to know: Makes about 20 biscuits. Biscuit tray could be lined with baking paper instead of greasing.
16 Did you know that we have cheap bread? Day old frozen bread is available at the centre for 25c per plain loaf and 50c per sweet loaf. We also have free bread and other food items from Oz Harvest when available. These arrive Thursdays around lunch time. East Creek Community Centre is a community based, non-profit organisation providing community services for Toowoomba residents. We work with community groups and individuals throughout Toowoomba.
