Last Friday during our Staff Only Day we achieved a great deal on our curriculum refresh. As part of the staff korero we discussed the playground environment and the opportunity for our ākonga to be creative using odd bits of timber, wooden dowel, plastic pipes of varying dimensions, rope and other miscellaneous items to construct huts, bridges and sculptures with these things. There are many terms for this type of play and one is ‘Discovery’. We would like to be able to offer this to our tamariki and initially we have a zero budget! We are going to rely on our community goodwill to start with! If you or your whanau have any items that you can donate to school to kickstart our project we would gratefully receive it. These will be temporary structures and our tamariki will be able to explore a whole range of concepts in their creations. The staff appreciated having the concentrated time together last Friday to work collaboratively on our mahi. Thank you for supporting us in this. I hope the additional day at Queens Birthday weekend Relocation of the APS Bike Container made a happy long weekend for you and your whanau.
