MAUNGATUROTO PRIMARY SCHOOL Developing ‘REAL’ Learners Resilient, Effective communicators, Actively involved, Lifelong learners This week’s C.A.R.E value Respect - Manaakitanga- We will demonstrate this by showing respect to all in our class as well as our whole school. 21 February 2019 Rua tekau ma tahi whā Hui-tanguru 2019 From The Principal Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa Year 5 and 6 Camp I was lucky to spend some 3me at the Year 5 and 6 camp last week. What a great educa3onal and social learning opportunity for all of our Thur-Fri 21AB and 22ⁿD February children. The children were constantly prac3cing their CARE values and Yr 1 and 2 Camp REAL skills. I spent the day at the Adventure Forest. Every single child ( and some adults) Friday 1AB March got out of their comfort zone and challenged themselves. School Triathlon When I went around to camp I always saw our parents displaying our CARE values by s3ll working and suppor3ng the children even aIer they had spent Tuesday 5th March a whole day ac3vely involved in physical ac3vi3es. I would like to thank the PTA Mee3ng in staffroom staff and the parents who made this trip possible. You all contributed to giving the children an awesome experience that they will always remember. Thursday 7BH March Year 1 and 2 Camp Senior Swimming Sports The junior teachers have been busy organising their camp. Please ensure you have seen all the no3ces so you know procedures and are here on 3me to Wed-Fri 13BH – 15BH March pick your child up. Year 3 and 4 Camp Te Manawa Tahi The Ministry of Educa3on’s learning Support Service and the Resource Wed/Thurs 20BH and 21AB March Teachers for Learning and Behaviour have set up a hub fortnightly. This hub Three way interviews is an opportunity for parents to work directly with experts. Friday 12BH April Farewell to Mr Burnley Jones Last day Term 1 Today is the last day that Burnley will be working at our school. We thank him for his input and wish him luck with his next venture. Monday 29BH April Morning Parking First day term 2. If you are dropping your child off in the morning please do not park in the Gorge Road Car park. We have opened the fields by the swimming pool for Friday 5BH July parking in the morning and aIer school. Last day Term 2.
CERTIFICATE WINNERS Term 1 - Week 3 Room 1 What an amazing week long camp we had at Marsden On Camp Cove! The weather was perfect and the Year 5&6 students all had a great time creating memories, forming Room 2 and strengthening friendships, pushing themselves out of On Camp their comfort zones and enjoying all this camp had to offer. Room 3 Te Oranganui Kingi, Amelia Jackson Thank you to the many helpers who fundraised tirelessly, and thank you also to those who came along and helped. Room 4 Whether you stayed for the duration, or you came and Khai Donaldson helped out during some of the day to day activities - Room 5 thank you! These camps could not and would not happen Mayah Foster, Tapihana Littlejohn without the input and support from parents and caregivers. Room 6 Spencer Dinsdale, Manaaki Nathan- Day 1 of camp began with a trip to Adrenalin Adventure Jenkins, Sonny O’Donoghue, Park just out of Hikurangi. This was an incredible Quinn Troost experience for the children and many of them pushed themselves physically and mentally. Room 7 Cienna Harris, River Gordon Day 2 was based at the camp with activities such as Archery, Swimming, Flying Fox, Amazing Race, Kayaking & Room 8 Trust Games. Jaxson Sheppard, Tori Raumaewa Day 3 was action packed as we headed to the Whangarei Room 9 Pools and the Adventure Forest in Glenbervie. Marley Sheppard, Lachlan Cathcart This activity proved to be a favourite! Room 10 Day 4 was a full day of surfing, beach games and Caitlin Ewen activities. Lots of sun, surf and sand was had by all! Welcome to new studends: Day 5 was spent packing up, cleaning and thanking the Levi Nathan, Riverz Paikea, Aroha many helpers who made this camp possible. Hobson. All in all, the children had a great time and were suitably C.A.R.E/R.E.A.L AWARD -for a exhausted when we returned to school on Friday. Library News Our CARE focus for- Week 4 We are holding a Book Fair in the last week of Term Two (1st - 4th July), with the theme of "The Enchanted Forest". Our CARE Value for this week is Respect - At this stage we are looking for a few things to help with Manaakitanga. We are focussing on showing the start of the decorations. If anyone can help with Respect to all the people in our class, as well as any of the following it would be greatly appreciated: our whole school. 2019 Swimming Sports (7-11yr olds) This event will be held on Thursday 7th March at 10:45 am (PP Friday 8th March). All parents/caregivers and members of the community are invited to come along and support the children on the day. We will start with the championship backstroke races and will run through the lunch break to complete all events. Your child will need plenty of food, water and warm clothes on this day. For children to be considered as an age champion, they must swim in championship events, these are the two length events and the medley, and for 7yr olds the one length events. To run this event successfully we need parents to be place getters/time keepers. If you can help out, please come and see Miss Neal, Mrs Steiner, Mrs Mac or Mrs Tovine as soon as possible so they can organise this. Happy New Year from Otamatea Martial Arts Our Kempo classes for juniors and teens have recommenced for Maungaturoto St John Youth Cadets is starting this year. Pupils from your school may already be enjoying our back up for 2019. The Division runs on Thursdays classes, but we always welcome new from 4pm until 5.30pm at the Maungaturoto members, and classes start from a very reasonable Ambulance Station. $55 a term. St John Youth Cadets is a youth programme for Kempo classes are held in: 6-18 year olds with the following groups; Penguins Wellsford on Tues Ages 5-10 yrs 3:15 pm. 11-15 yrs 4:15 pm. 16 and over 5:30 pm 6-8 year olds, Green Cadets 8-10 year olds, Blue Wellsford Primary School, School Road.
