YOUR CHILD, YOUR SCHOOL, YOUR COMMUNITY 45 Thomas Street Boyanup WA 6237 Telephone (08) 9731 5111 Absentee SMS 0437 204 580 Principal: Mr Justin Grasso Justin.Grasso@education.wa.edu.au Issue No: 16 22nd October 2019 Welcome back to term 4. This term will be busy including the Year 5/6 Camp to Perth, Interschool Athletics Carnival, Kindy Orientation, Volunteers ‘Thank You’ Morning Tea, Year 5/6 Surf Lessons at Yallingup, Annual Class Awards and Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and student end of year reports. Our year 5 and 6 students attended their annual camp last week in Perth. I had the opportunity to experience the camp with the students along with Miss Ward and Mrs Hotter. It was an educational and fun filled week of activities and experiences including ice skating, visiting Perth Zoo, meeting our local member Hon Mick Murray at Parliament house and learning about how parliament works, tour through the city, Scitech experience, visit to Fremantle Prison and Aqua, finishing camp with the excitement and thrills of Adventure World. It was a most enjoyable and memorable camp. A huge shout out goes to Miss Ward for organising the camp, Mrs Hotter for her support and a special thank you to Emily’s grandfather, Mr Jeff Reading for his awesome help throughout the camp. Student NAPLAN Reports for 2019 will be sent home this week with the year 3 and 5 students who sat the test back in May. The report shows your child’s achievements in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy. Information regarding how to interpret your child’s results is included on the front page of the report. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school. We’re holding Boyanup Primary School’s 1st Ever Colour Fun-Run as our major fundraising event this year! The event will be held on Sunday 24th November 2019. This is a sponsorship based fundraiser, and we’re looking to raise $5000 for New Playground Equipment for all our children to enjoy!! Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms and parent letters which will be sent home with your child later this week. Once you have the form, jump online at www.schoolfundraising.com.au and create a student profile page to start fundraising. Page 1 BOYANUP PRIMARY SCHOOL - Your Child, Your School, Your Community
Alternatively, you can collect sponsorship for the event using the sponsorship form at the back of the booklet. Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward, the more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help our school! The School Colour Fun-Run is a healthy fundraiser that we hope you’ll get behind. The event sends a message to students about having fun while being healthy, all while helping the school raise funds. We’re looking for all students to participate and we’re organising a great day for our community, so we’d love everyone to come down to support the kids. Family, staff and siblings of students are encouraged and welcome to participate and join in the fun for $5 each (registration on the day). If you have any questions about the Colour Fun-Run please contact Mrs Fitt, Nikki Mak or the School Fun-Run Office on 1800 FUN RUN. Thanks for supporting Boyanup Primary School, we hope to see you at our event! We would love some volunteers on the day to help out at water, paint and obstacle stations so please call Mrs Fitt on 9731 5111 or Nikki Mak 0437 329 942 if you are available to help us throw an amazing day! Our PBS focus this term is Being an Active Learner and we are looking forward to watching all of our students at Boyanup be the best they can be by actively engaging in P all&their C News learning tasks. Our You Can Do It! focus this fortnight is Social-Emotional Blockers. Everyone has blockers - things about themselves that can make it harder to be successful and happy. There are five common blockers; Feeling down, worried or angry, being lazy and not paying attention Everyone can learn different strategies to get these blockers out of the way. Here are some ideas. Can you think of any more? Take 3 deep and slow breaths Count backwards from 20 Find a friend to talk to Have a ‘brain break’ Think to yourself “I can do Go and sit under a tree this.” Find an adult to talk to Go for a walk Find something fun to do Monike Fitt Deputy Principal Page 2 BOYANUP PRIMARY SCHOOL - Your Child, Your School, Your Community

Butterflies in the Kindy Last term the Kindy children got hands-on with observing the Butterfly lifecycle in the classroom, with Monarch eggs hatching into caterpillars, through to the chrysalis forming and finally Monarch Butterflies emerging. The Butterflies were released at school and children were very excited to watch them fly off. It was a very rewarding and exciting learning experience for all! Robotics Competition “Back in term 3, we built a robot to enter a local school competition. The robot we built took us 6 to 8 weeks to finish. On the competition day, there were four challenges to do. There was lots of teamwork involved. Our team worked really hard to come first. We got 4th, just missing 3rd place. We had lots of fun and hope to do it again next year!” - Ella Reeves & Kai Pokkinen, Year 4 The competition was held at Dardanup Primary School. The school was represented by Ella Reeves, Kai Pokkinen, Aidan Mak and Ava Cain-Mitchell. These students were selected as they display a high level of critical thinking skills, perseverance, resilience and cooperation. A huge thank you to Mr Bob Main for his guidance building the robot, and for his patience, support and encouragement at the competition.
