PARENT BULLETIN Friday 25th May 2018 NEXT WEEK: Week 2 Timetable [after half term] AIR EARTH FIRE WATER 65,881 66,682 64,176 61,646 With half term upon us we are now halfway through the GCSE exam season. Although we should not speak too soon, it does appear the majority of students are positive about the way their exams have been going. Surely this is largely due to the commitment and determination Year 11 have shown towards their revision, especially over the last few weeks. Attendance at the subject sessions staged before school, after school, at the weekends and throughout the holidays has never been higher. Although we expect as many students as possible to attend the revision classes scheduled over the coming week, it is also crucial students take the opportunity to rest, recuperate and recharge in readiness for their return to school on Monday 4 June. Unusually, just the one trip went out this week! Year 10 taking Textiles GCSE visited Bath Spa University, where they toured Art and Design department, spoke to textiles lecturers and students and even got to try on some of the products designed and made by the degree students. You can see pictures of the ‘fashion show’ on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Also online, you will see various activities which went on in school during the week including our observation of the one minute’s silence for the victims of last year’s attack in Manchester. Lastly, congratulations go to Samuel in Year 7 on the Cherbourg Campus for designing a stunning seating area, for all to enjoy, on Grantham Green in Eastleigh. He said of his achievement, “I have thoroughly enjoyed the process; it’s been a really good experience - my face now hurts from all the smiling during the publicity shots!”. Please note that our INSET Days for the remainder of the calendar year are as follows: Thursday 19th July, Friday 20th July, Monday 23rd July, Monday 3rd September and Tuesday 4th September 2018. Year 7 and Year 11 will return to school on Wednesday 5th September, with the whole school returning on Thursday 6th September. We hope you have a happy and restful Bank Holiday weekend and half-term. The first people to correctly define the word and let Mr Tully know (either by email or via their tutor) receive ePraise points for their efforts. This week, our word was surreptitious, an adjective meaning something kept secret because it would not be approved of. Well done to our winners for this week: 10 ePraise - Ryan Bacon 8 ePraise - Daniel Arnett 6 ePraise - Olivia Edwards 4 ePraise - James Parker 2 ePraise - Euan Weser Everyone else who sent in a correct definition will get one ePraise point. Tutor Time - PDL Mr Collis and 8sLAN were learning about value for money in their Personal Development Learning (PDL) lesson in tutor time today and thinking about how to assess whether or not they are getting taken for a ride when they spot a “bargain”!

Mr Hanstock Business Studies Course As part of the Business Studies course students need to build an understanding of why individuals start businesses. We are looking to make links with small to medium sized business owners, who would be willing to come into school and deliver a talk explaining to a small group of students their motivation for setting up in business, the pitfalls and success enjoyed by being your own boss! If there are any tradespeople in the area who run their own business (either sole trader, limited company or franchise) then please get in touch. It won't take much of your time but the insight will be invaluable for our students. naz.watts@crestwood.hants.sch.uk
