How can parents help their child travel safely to and from school with Assisted School Travel, your driver and-or ATSO. 1. Be ready 15 minutes before the pick-up and drop-off time. 2. Wait at the agreed safe pick-up and drop-off location outside your home to meet the vehicle. 3. Even if there is an ATSO in the car/bus, you must help your child get in the vehicle, make sure they are safely seated and your child’s seat belt is buckled correctly. 4. In the afternoon parents again get in the vehicle to undo your child’s seat belt and assist them out safely. 5. Parents also assist travel staff in loading and securing your child and their mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walkers. 6. A reminder that ASTP guidelines clearly state that students cannot eat or drink on transport. This reduces the risk of choking or an anaphylaxis reaction. If your child has medical reasons from a doctor, please discuss this with us at school.
