We know that you care about your child and we do too. During the week of April 19, I will be teaching a lesson about protective behaviors to all students, grades K-5. The presentation will include information on child sexual abuse. Children will learn to say “No” to confusing or uncomfortable touches, learn rules for keeping their bodies safe, and learn that they are never at fault in cases of abuse. Children will also be encouraged to identify adults who they can trust when they need help or protection. Your child will be bringing home a sheet with talking points and a “Helping Hand” of adults they can trust and talk to. Please take time to talk with your child about this issue. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Nada Newcomb SMCS School Counselor nnewcomb@smcatholicschools.org Timber Rattler Reading Program The Timber Rattlers reading program is underway! The goal is to read or be read to 100 minutes a week to earn a ticket voucher for a free baseball game, hot dog, and soda. Information was sent home before spring break. If you have 1st base completed, be sure to turn in to your child’s teacher. What a fun way to earn a night out at the ballpark! From your FACES President and Vice President What a school year this has been! We are all so very grateful for the school system, Mrs. Fairweather and all the teachers and support staff that made in person learning this year possible. As my term of FACES President and Cindi’s term as Vice-President comes to a close, we want to give a heartfelt Thank You to all the parent volunteers who did as much as was allowed to help make the school and many of its activities as “normal” as possible. It may be cliché to say that we could not have done it without you, but it’s true! Aside from the many positives of volunteering, this year volunteering also seemed like a lifeline to feelings of connectedness with our friends and school community. Our FACES Executive Committee understands these feelings all too well which is why we want to make our last FACES meeting one where we can connect with old friends we haven’t seen for awhile and new friends we have not had the chance to meet yet. Our meeting will be held outside so we can safely mingle.
Please join us on Thursday, May 6th at 9am near the Good Shepherd statue in back of the church. A continental breakfast will be served. We will wrap up business for this school year and look towards an even better year ahead. With Gratitude, Celeste Brennan and Cindi Auth Sick Students A reminder, if your child goes home sick from school with more than one symptom, the other children in your family will have to go home also. I recognize this is not ideal but it helps ensure we do not spread illness at school. Allergy season seems to have begun. Is it COVID or allergies? This information from the CDC can help you decide. If your child has a history of seasonal allergies, you might want to see if your doctor will write a letter describing his or her typical symptoms. If we have this on le, your child may not need to get a COVID test when they are experiencing multiple allergy symptoms. Please screen at home for the following symptoms daily and use the attached document to help decide if your child should stay home. Students experiencing any of these symptoms should not be in school. fever greater than 100.4 sore throat headache body aches fatigue runny nose nausea, vomiting, diarrhea a change to your ability to taste or smell cough and shortness of breath chest pain, bluish lips or face, or new-onset mental confusion (emergent care is needed if you experience these symptoms) Download pdf PARENTS Screening Checklist 2020.12.pdf 317.1 KB SMCS Summer Camps and Programs Summer is just around the corner!
