Honors Award Overview Now in its 10th year, recipients of the award set the standards of excellence for Employee Resource Groups and Diversity Councils. Completing the application provides your group with a comprehensive process for internal self-assessment and measurement. All applicants receive their 2019 ERG & Council Honors Award™ Application Summary Report that provides their results in comparison with those of the TOP 10, TOP 25 and all applicants. The TOP 10 recipients are given the additional recognition of being inducted into the Leader’s Circle with additional recognition and benefits. 2017 applications represented 1,279 ERGs, BRGs, Diversity Councils and their chapters. This year’s TOP 25 award recipients will receive their rankings and their awards at the 2019 ERG & Council Honors Award™ Ceremony May 3, 2019 at the Disney Yacht and Beach Club in Orlando, Florida. 5 Myths for Not Applying 1. We don’t have many members • 12 of 2017’s TOP 25 had less than 99 members 2. Our group is too young • 7 of 2017’s TOP 25 were between 2 and 6 years old 3. Our organization is too small • 9 of 2017’s TOP 25 had 3,000 or fewer employees 4. We are a not for profit/non profit/don’t generate or not responsible for revenue/Not a Fortune 500 • Davenport University’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council was 2016’s #2! Since 2009, there have been 14 similar organizations (some who repeated) making the TOP 25. 5. We’re not ready • 11 of 2017’s TOP 25 were first time applicants! Honors Award Application Overview • The Application is free and opened to all U.S. based Employee Resource Groups and Diversity Councils that have been in operations for at least 2 years. • Applicants complete and submit an online application of 50 questions that evaluates their impact on their organization over the past 12 months (2018). • Award applicants are evaluated on contributions and achievements in these four categories: • Demonstrated Results • Demonstrated Management Commitment • Measurement and Accountability • Communication and Education • The 2019 Application opened September 12th and closes December 31st. Best Practice Examples • “During the Pride Festival, this ERG introduced a coupon to hand out to the attendees. The redemption rate of these coupons was over 12%, much higher than average rate of 2-4%, generating sales of $5,516 and bringing in 25 new customers. We have now created unique coupons for all the ERGs to track customer loyalty and provide customer insight.” • “Our BRG led our organization to create a brand- new website in Spanish. The website’s design is based on recommendations from internal focus groups and community member meetings. The site has new content and on-line tools (like scheduling appointments) for Spanish-speaking customers. Best Practice Examples SOL • “The development of the Spirit of Leadership Program (SOL) LEADERSHIP realized a 40% leadership career growth of members within CAREER GROWTH this BRG development program for Latinos. The success of CAMPUSES the program led ALMMA to present to the Executive Leadership team on the proven results of the program. The program was given additional resources to expand across 5 additional campuses.” • “BRGs were tasked to develop people of color into leadership roles. The BRGs partnered with Hispanic and Asian chambers, local business leaders, senior leaders and our Board of Directors. This increased and enhanced programming and professional development opportunities. The percentage of POC in five of the six leadership job bands being measured increased by 14.6%.” • “Members of this council led Career Conversations with minority high school students to educate them about healthcare careers, education options and overcoming challenges to achieve career goals. Workforce Education • “To increase awareness about generational differences, this Generational BRG created a 1-hour lunchtime workshop, Embrace Generational Differences. As a result, 25 managers requested that this session be presented to their staff.” • “Lack of staff education on military teammates and how to engage effectively. Lunch and learn education sessions were implemented along with e-learning tools. 400 teammates have participated in sessions.” • “The goal was to incorporate D&I into New Employee Orientation. What’s New with the 2019 Application? 1) Fewer Application Questions - 50 vs. last year’s 59. 2) Some questions previously requesting you to make two separate area selections and provide two answers have been replaced with a request of providing just one best or new initiative. 3) We have added a new supplemental nomination form for Executive Sponsor of the Year. New Executive Sponsor of the Year Award A candidate for the Executive Sponsor of the Year must have served at least one year in the role and be shown to have contributed to the success of one or more ERGs or Councils during the past year by providing support, outstanding guidance and exposure. Criteria: • Leverages their position within the organization to influence senior leadership and build engagement for the work of the Employee Resource Groups and Councils. • Shows a commitment to diversity and inclusion beyond involvement in an ERG or Council. • Committed to playing an active role in developing/supporting the ERG or Council. • Committed to a two-way developmental process: the professional development of ERG leads/members and their own development in the sponsor/advocate role. 10 Success Tips You Need To Know 1. The 2019 Application closes December 31st. No extensions will be granted and no late applications will be accepted. 2. Create a task team. 3. Review the Application FAQs on the website prior to starting the application. 4. Download the Application PDF and enter your responses into the form boxes and text boxes prior to answering the online application. 5. Once you have completed filling in the PDF, you can then convert it to a WORD document, spell check and make any corrections. 6. 10 Success Tips You Need To Know 7. The online application uses “cookies” so it must be completed using the same computer and browser. 8. Do not clear your browser data and delete cookies or you will lose all your application information and will have to start over. 9. You can stop and resume work on your application at anytime. From the same computer and browser you started the application, click the "Begin/Resume Application Process" button on the website application page. 10. Receipt of your completed and transmitted online application is confirmed immediately once you’ve clicked “I ACCEPT”. You will receive a “Your Application was Received!” message. Your application is now closed and no longer accessible. If you are submitting multiple applications from your organization you will need to start a new online application. Application Evaluation & Communication Process What happens between the time you hit the "Submit " button and the time you are notified of your application results? 1. Nothing happens until the application process closes on December 31st. 2. The application is stripped of the profile section and other organizational identifying information and forwarded to the judges. 3. The judges independently review and score each application using a score sheet. 4. All score sheets are collected from the judges and are run through a weighted scoring algorithm producing each applicant’s final score. All scores are sorted and ranked to produce the TOP 25. Application Evaluation & Communication Process 5. Every applicant receives notification informing them of their status, whether they made the TOP 25 or not. 6. Once all applicants have been notified, a press release and a broadcast email is launched and the conference website and all social media is updated announcing the TOP 25 recipients in alphabetical order. 7. On May 3, 2019, the TOP 25 recipients are honored and awarded and their rankings revealed at the 2019 ERG & Council Honors Award™ ceremony during the 2019 ERG & Council Conference at the Disney Yacht and Beach Club in Orlando, Florida. Conference Overview Time for Change! Now in its 7th year, it’s the only annual conference designed specifically for Employee Resource Groups and Diversity Councils that provides opportunities to recharge, get inspired, network, learn and share best practices. 2017’s conference attracted over 400 attendees from 110 organizations from across the U.S and the world. The 2 day conference consists of 4 workshops, 8 repeating concurrent sessions, 2 assembly sessions with keynotes, 2 networking receptions and various breaks and the annual Honors Award ceremony.
