WINTER SCHOOL THEME & PROGRAM The theme for the 2019 ICAZ Winter School is: “Disruptive Innovation – Investing for Growth“ The conference will explore the need for businesses in Zimbabwe to disrupt the status quo in a tough and uncertain economic environment in order to thrive and excel locally and globally. With a focus on attracting investments to Zimbabwe, hosting the winter school in South Africa will give the opportunity for expansive dialogue on new business models and innovations that could reignite Zimbabwean industries and position them for greater economic growth. Areas to be explored include successes and areas of growth through the Internet of Things (IoT), fintech, agritech, health and insurtech. Is there substance to technological advances in the age of smart phones to do business and make it easier? The conference will showcase the opportunities available in the country for international players and create a platform for collaborations or investment. In line with the theme to attract investments, the program will offer activities such as business exhibitions, networking sessions and key sector break-away sessions. The winter school program has been designed to allow for both business and leisure which will offer delegates the opportunity to leave Sun City with disruptive innovative ideas, expanded networks and new strategic alliances. 2
WHY SOUTH AFRICA? • ICAZ’s SA chapter members make up 33% of ICAZ membership. The chapter is hosting the 2019 winter school as part of ICAZ’s initiative to actively engage all its members. • O.R Tambo International airport is a connecting hub that will allow other ICAZ members in the diaspora to attend the winter school with ease. 50% of the total ICAZ membership consists of members in the diaspora. • South Africa is Zimbabwe’s largest trading partner and hosting the conference in South Africa is aimed at engaging South African business partners and potential investors into Zimbabwe. • South Africa has a diverse and sophisticated financial and industrial economy and shares strong historical and trading ties with Zimbabwe making it a good destination to access winter school speakers and delegates for knowledge sharing. • Zimbabweans currently living in South Africa are estimated to be approximately three million, which represents a wide pool of stakeholders that may have an interest in attending the winter school for business networking. • In the past, the winter school has mostly been held at the Victoria Falls, hosted by either the Mashonaland or the Matabeleland Societies of ICAZ. ICAZ’s thrust is to give all its chapters an opportunity to host the winter school as a way of reaching out to all its members, as well as taping into the various investment communities, to attract Foreign Direct Investment into Zimbabwe. 3
WHY SUN CITY? Sun City is a fun and invigorating venue to host a conference. There are endless entertainment activities that will excite any guest, from rhino notching to sliding down the fastest zip slide in the world. Sun City can turn any business gathering into an adventure-filled experience. The venue also offers a wide selection of conference facilities, meeting rooms, activities and adventures around the resort that will leave delegates and other visitors spoilt for choice. ACCOMODATION When it comes to accommodation, Sun City offers four hotels, each with its own unique style, character and attractions: • The Palace of the Lost City is part of the Sunlux Collection and a 5-star hotel. • The 5-star Cascades is elegant, comfortable and central to all of Sun City’s attractions. • The flamboyant 4-star Soho and Casino is where all the action is. • The 3-star Cabanas is located near the action-packed Waterworld Lake. The pricing of the winter school allows delegates to choose from the options above (subject to availability). PALACE OF THE LOST CITY Inspired by the myth of a lost African kingdom, The Palace of the Lost City is set on the highest ground at Sun City, ensuring that its grand proportions and graceful towers are visible from across the resort. The fantasy of an African palace is indulged in every detail, from the stately volumes of the reception and dining areas to the mosaics, frescoes and fountains that enhance the architecture. CASCADES HOTEL The Cascades hotel’s tiered silhouette rises out of its tropical surroundings like an Aztec temple. All the 243 rooms enjoy views over the landscaped gardens or the series of sparkling pools set in between the cascading waterways. The hotel is home to a selection of excellent restaurants and boasts no less than three swimming pools, including one for children and a heated pool, with the perfect additions of a private beach and tanning island. SOHO HOTEL This glamorous grand dame is Sun City’s original hotel and centre point to the resort. The hotel hosts a selection of top-notch restaurants, the finest casino salon privés. Overlooking the legendary Gary Player Golf Course, which is home to the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge, the Soho Hotel is a stroll away from the popular Gary Player Country Club, with its gym, spa, restaurant and pro shop. CABANAS HOTEL The Cabanas hotel at Sun City is the resort’s most affordable hotel and is the perfect location for go-getters, trend-setters and young families. Enjoy the island style atmosphere that is cheerful and informal, from the colourful décor to the supervised kiddies’ play area and family-friendly restaurants at the Palm Terrace. It is centrally located near popular outdoor kids’ activities – its rolling lawns lead to the thrills of Waterworld and a short stroll takes you to Kamp Kwena. CONFERENCE VENUE The conference will be hosted at Sun Park, which is a permanent flexible infrastructure built around a sophisticated grid that enables swift and diverse events. The permanent modular design of Sun Park is based on internationally proven expo parks, which allows for exhibition spaces and breakaway sessions. The venue supports the networking thrust of the winter school. 11
FAMILY AND SPOUSES The venue and the program will allow members to bring family / spouses along. The additional costs that will be applicable for members / delegates who intend on bringing family are as follows (USD/Rand): Room upgrade to family: Cascades Hotel $120 (R 1 725) per room for 3 nights Soho Hotel $100 (R 1 440) per room for 3 nights Cabanas Hotel $90 (R 1 290) per room for 3 nights Delegates are urged to take note of the room configurations in the accommodation brochure to ensure that they book the appropriate family room. The above additional costs will cover only breakfast and all other meal costs will be on the account of the delegate. WINTER SCHOOL PRICING All prices are exclusive of VAT, other taxes and surcharges as may be applicable. RTGS payment option is available for resident members on request from ICAZ. The RTGS special price is available until 15 February 2019 and limited to the first 200 delegates. ICAZ is in the process of arranging a return charter flight from Harare. Details and costing will be 13 communicated in due course. This cost will be billed seperately.
REGISTRATION Registration is open. There is an early bird registration discount of 5% available on full settlement of conference fees before the 28th of February 2019. This is applicable across all pricing tiers. A registration deposit of US$800 (R11 500) is payable on registration with the balance of the conference fee payable by 30 June 2019, depending on the accommodation option across all tiers. This deposit can be payable over 2 months but must be paid before 15 April 2019. Please note that with this option is only available for USD, FCA and Rand payment options.
