The purpose behind this initiative is to ensure that our tamariki have access to ongoing health services that will benefit their overall health and wellbeing. We must continue to break down the barriers that exist in health that are just not delivering excellent outcomes for our whānau. We appreciate the opportunity to come together with the Ngati Hine Health Trust and we look forward to empowering our tamariki, whanau and hapu through this initiative. Our first clinic will begin at the end of June (date to be confirmed). A separate panui will come out with more detailed information and registration. Kia ora OSCAR Whanau, After School/Holiday Programme - Placement The positive numbers have climbed over Term 1 bringing us to a possible 18/19 enrolled tamariki in the After School Programme leaving us with 1 or 2 vacancies from our capped limit this term. We always have a definite interest of 20+ for the Holiday Programme. We’re limiting this programme to 20 at this stage due to staff and transport. If there are any changes to this we will let you know. This is just a friendly reminder that Moerewa School students will be given first priority to either programme. After 11 June spaces will become available for the holiday programme for students who do not attend our school. If our Moerewa School Whanau would make contact by Friday 11th June, 2021 to confirm their child/childrens placement in the Holiday Programme that would be greatly appreciated. If you have outstanding fees please pay promptly. For those of you who wish to be invoiced the School office will send these at your request. Any issues again, feel free to come in and have a korero. Closure Due to a Full Staff Training Day and a Teacher ONLY Day there will be NO After School Programme on Tuesday 29th June and Friday 9th July, 2021. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Keep warm and be well out there Whanau as these Winter days settle in. We look forward to further korero throughout the term. Thank you all for your ongoing support. Nga mihi nui kia koutou katoa! Moerewa Innovating Streets for People 'Innovating Streets for People' is a national programme funded by Waka Kotahi (New Zealand Transport Authority). It creates temporary projects that are trialling ways of making streets safer for whānau and tamariki. In June and July, contractors will be on site installing the 'Innovating Streets for People' project outside Moerewa School and Otiria Marae on Otiria Road. The Moerewa innovating streets project has been designed by ĀKAU studio, working with tamariki from Moerewa School, and it includes beautiful tamariki-inspired graphics by local artist Lorraine King. The aim of the project is to slow traffic on Otiria Road and create safer spaces for tamariki outside Moerewa School. Once the project is in, it might take a bit to get used to! We ask whānau to āta haere through the site, particularly while you're getting used to the new layout. The project kaimahi will be back after it has been installed to ask the community how it's working. We will be reducing traffic entering the school as the road graphics and raised pedestrian are installed. Drop offs and pick ups will only be allowed near the town side of the current pedestrian crossing. We will communicate this as development progresses. You may see more staff out and about as the development builds. We are really excited to see this mahi taking place knowing how dangerous it can be on Otiria Road. We would like to thank our Board member and whanaunga Lorraine King for her ongoing support of our tamariki and community, Tukaha Milne for working with our tamariki on our local stories and designs for the project, ĀKAU for keeping us informed throughout the design process and of course, our community for their resilience and patience. These developments have been a long time coming! Maia Cooper, Principal
