THE NULSEN NEWS Newsletter 11 DATE: 1st August 2019 ALL ABOUT NULSEN PRIMARY SCHOOL, THE SCHOOL IN WHICH WE LEARN Goodbye Sue Last week the staff and community farewelled Sue Meyer. Sue, for personal reasons, has decided to resign from her role at Nulsen Primary School as the Chaplain. Sue in her time with us, quickly became an integral and respected member of the staff. Sue provided a tremendous amount of support to staff across many broad and complicated issues. Sue also became very valued and respected by the parents and community. With her strong links and connections to the wider community agencies, Sue was able to assist parents during some difficult and challenging times. Sue was sought by many students who needed someone to talk to, she always found the time. We are not sure if this was a ploy to get out of work, but regardless the students always walked away keen to re- engage in class. During her time with us, Sue coordinated and organised with Amy Vickers the inaugural Nulsen in November and some five years later this event has become hugely popular. Sue, with Geoff Tonkin, also worked on bringing the Growers Market to Nulsen Primary School, this has seen Nulsen Primary School’s profile raised dramatically. Sue, with Sara Lee, has coordinated the Friendship Club, she started the Friday Parents Coffee Club and worked with EACS to help on Pancake Friday. Sue has also facilitated, with Meredith Waters, the Regenerate Program to support parents and she also engaged the M&M group with Nulsen students. So, it would be fair to say Sue has been busy, and these are only a list of what we know. I bet the list would be more extensive if we knew everything she has done for the Nulsen School Community. We wish Sue the best for the future and eagerly await a visit. Welcome to Mel, our new Chaplain My name is Melinda Harp, but just call me Mel, as only my Mum calls me Melinda and that’s only when I’m in trouble! Some of the things that I love are; coffee, my family and playing hockey. A strange and interesting fact about me is......I am incredibly allergic to chocolate, I know, sad right? I am really excited to get to know everyone and I can’t wait to see what this term is going to bring!

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019). Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: year of schooling category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive. This information assists schools to: formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability. The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
