Religious Education
In today’s Gospel, Jesus said to His disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have
faith also in Me.” This Bible verse especially applies during this time. We must continue to trust in God at all
times.
We have the following dates scheduled for families to pick up their student’s books. We have decided to set
up the St. Elizabeth classroom with the materials. Please come pick up your students’ materials anytime be-
tween Monday, May 11th through Thursday, May 14th and Monday, May 18th through Thursday, May 21st.
The office is open from 8:00-4:00. Please use the west door of the Center, adjacent to the office. This door
will be marked. If these hours do not work for you, please call to make other
arrangements.
The First Holy Communion and Confirmation dates are still pending. Please
continue to keep our students in your prayers.
We will continue to be in the office. Please let us know if we can help in any
way.

Bishop’s Appeal 2020 Update—We continue to exceed our goal—Again! Thank You!
As of May 5th, 129 people have contributed $24,276.00, which is $2,235.00 OVER our goal of $22,041.00.
Thank you so much! Together we have done it once again! Even though we have exceeded our goal, you
can still make a donation to the Bishop’s Appeal. To make a gift please check out the materials on the tables
in the church or use the pledge card you receive at home. Our parish will receive back 50% of any amount
exceeding our goal. Thank you for your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal, for another successful campaign, and for
your support of our St. Joseph Parish which is helped in many ways by it.
Coronavirus Precautions
Again here is a quick review of our changes in response to the coronavirus situation:
- The public celebration of the Holy Mass is suspended indefinitely. However, since we are allowed to
have one other person present at the private Masses, we have a sign-up sheet available in the Gathering
Space for one person to be present at the Mass. Priority will be given to someone who either purchased the
Mass intention or a family member or friend of the person for whom the Mass is being said. Please meet Fa-
ther David at the back door of the sacristy. Please also be sure you are in good health at the time.
- Mass times on Sunday will be at 8:00 A.M., 9:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. (Spanish). This is to allow the
church to be open at 11:00 A.M. for visitation and prayer.
- The church will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 A.M.—3:00 P.M., and on Saturday and Sunday from
11:00 A.M.—3:00 P.M., for prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle.
- The Sacrament of Confession will be available on Wednesday from 12:00—1:00 P.M. and on Saturday
from 2:00—3:00 P.M.
- The Parish Office will be open Monday—Friday from 8:00 A.M.—4:00 P.M., however we ask that only
those who need to come to the office to please come but take proper precautions.
- We also realize that this situation is impacting many people’s financial situation including that of our parish,
especially with no public Masses being offered. We hope that those of you who are able to please continue
your financial support of our parish by either bringing your contribution to the parish office, mailing it to our
address or placing it in the cash box by the greeting card stand in the church. It will be a great help and we
very much appreciate it.

Act of Spiritual Communion
During this time when many of us are not able to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion, we can still make
an Act of Spiritual Communion. Below is the prayer for Spiritual Communion which we can say every day:
My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Help Wanted, Soon! Coordinator of Religious Education Position Would you like to be instrumental in helping our young people learn about and grow in their Catholic faith? If you are and you would like some part-time work, we are looking for someone who would be interested in filling our parish position of Coordinator of Religious Education for grades 1-5. It is a paid part-time posi- tion of 20 hours per week. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in filling this position please contact the Parish Office to let Fr. David know. We would then be able to provide more information on what the position entails. Ideally we would like to hire someone soon so that Ms. Therese Kasuboski—the current coordinator, will have ample time to spend time with them and teach them about the position be- fore the end of June. So, thank you, and please—give it some thought. Little White Books Even though we are well into the Easter Season we do have the Little White Books available for $1.00 each on the table in the Gathering Space of the church. They contain some very interesting bits of information, reflections and prayers for the Easter Season. Please come by and purchase one. Thoughts on today’s readings We would like to share with you an excerpts from a homily written by Rev. Fr. Njoku Canice Chukwuemeka, C.S.Sp. He is a Catholic Priest and a Member of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers (Spiritans), Province of Nigeria South East. It is dated 15 May 2014 and found on the frcanicejoku.com web- site: ”On this 5th Sunday of Easter and as we continue to celebrate the triumph of the Risen Lord, the Church reminds us in a special way of who we are and where we ought to be: “The Chosen race and the royal priesthood who reign with Christ and would definitely…be where Christ is. In the first reading of today from Acts 6, 1-7, the drama that unfolded and led to the election of seven dea- cons in order to cater for the social needs of the believers has the following lessons to teach us. The first be- ing that we must not neglect or take for granted the social and material needs of our flock, brothers and sis- ters. Second, neglect of complains in a group without finding quick and lasting solutions to them can wreak havoc for our ministry…Third, we must make sure we find means of balancing both the spiritual and materi- al needs of our flock and brethren. The fourth is that, as members of the royal priesthood, we must not for- get who we are or neglect our primary calling… If we pay too much attention to material needs, the spiritual will certainly suffer…When we neglect the spiritual (core) aspect of our calling in order to attend to the mundane alone, we reduce ourselves to mere social workers or NCOs. While this is not bad in itself, the problem is that we might become trapped by materialism, and forget that: “Man must not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God (Mt 4: 4). In the second reading from 1 Pt 2, 4-9, Peter reminds us of who we truly are: “A chosen race, a royal priest- hood, a consecrated nation, a people set apart to sing the praises if God…” Here, Peter highlights our partici- pation in the priesthood of Christ through the “common or general priesthood” of all believers by virtue of our baptism... Yes, baptism configures us to become “priests.” That is why each and every one of us can bless one another,… pray for one another, and even baptize someone who is in danger of death... By virtue of our anointing with the oil of chrism during baptism, we are equally consecrated to God and thus set apart. Furthermore, the sacrament of confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace and thus through it leaves on the believer an indelible character by the power of the Holy Spirit... Peter there- fore reminds us of our priestly and royal heritage. He equally calls us to live it out in a manner that is proper. In order words, if we set ourselves close to Christ our chief priest, we must live up to expectation by offering acceptable sacrifices to God. By and through this, we become acceptable to God and become ourselves spir- itual houses.
In today’s gospel (Jn 14:1-12), Jesus assures us “his fellow priests,” of a place in his kingdom: “Let not your hearts be troubled…there are many rooms in my father’s house…so that where I am you may be too.” This is a clear indication that by virtue of baptism we are truly children of God and share in the priesthood and roy- alty of Jesus Christ. This is why he considers us worthy of being where he is going to be. Unfortunately, many of us…do not know who we are, or even believe that there is a beautiful place being prepared for us by Christ in his Father’s house. So, we act just like the “doubtful Thomas” and the “ignorant Philip.” It is because we doubt this truth told by Jesus, or because, we are ignorant of it that we live our lives anyhow and so for- get who we are. This is also the reason many of us cannot maximize our priestly and royal potentials. As priests and people of royal decent and blood, we must assert ourselves positively. It takes faith to log our- selves fully into this position and to live it. Jesus tells us: “I am the way the truth and the light…! Therefore, if we follow him and fashion our priesthood and priestly life after his, we shall do well, as well as be where he is. Let us therefore ask God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ to help us live as members of the royal and heavenly dynasty where Christ our high priest reigns and has set up rooms for us his ‘fellow priests.’” Thoughts on Mother’s Day We would like to share with you an excerpt from an article titled, “Mary and the meaning of Mother’s Day,” written by Jenny Uebbing, dated 11 May 2017 and found on the Denver Catholic website. “…Mary had a radically different experience of motherhood from the rest of us, at least on the surface. Only one baby, and what an exemplar model at that! A saintly husband who silently supported her decisions (she was perfect, after all), a child who never so much as rolled his eyes at her in sass, and God’s assurance that her domestic toils would merit an unfathomable heavenly reward. Mary didn’t have to worry “am I doing this right?” or “will I mess him up?” And I bet she never felt like fleeing the house at Nazareth when Joseph came back from the wood shop at night. And yet. I look at Mary’s history-altering fiat at the Annunciation and I see that her surrender was not death by a thousand diapers. Her consent to surrender (was) immediate, it was immense, and it was ongoing. That fervent and fruitful yes at the very outset of her motherhood would encompass the remainder of her life on earth and chart the course for her role in eternity. And in her surrender, she opened up the course of human events to a divine interruption such as the universe had never seen. Mary’s heart was sufficiently open to receive the full power of the Holy Spirit’s love, a force so powerful that from her virgin womb, God the child would come forth nine months later. That’s the kind of love the world’s greatest mom is made of. And her life with Jesus, however steeped in divinity, was not without heartache and toil. I think of the anxie- ty of the three days she and Joseph searched for tween Jesus, having lost sight of Him on a family road trip to Jerusalem; of the radical trust and courage it took to launch Him into His ministry at Cana, knowing full well the road to Jerusalem would dead end at Calvary. And of course, it is impossible to think of Mary without calling to mind an image of Michelangelo’s Pieta, a crushed and grieving mother holding the battered, lifeless body of her beloved Son. In short, Mary saw it all. And that makes her the perfect model for us all, no matter how few or how numer- ous our children, and no matter how great or how hidden our crosses. This Mother’s Day, let’s ask Mary to show us the radical power of surrender, and the beauty of a heart fully available to live one’s vocation.” Thank you to all of you wonderful ladies for your love, service and devotion as mothers. May God bless you on this Mother’s Day and every day of your lives.

Cuando descuidamos el aspecto espiritual (núcleo) de nuestro llamamiento para atender a lo mundano por sí solos, nos reducimos a meros trabajadores sociales o o no- sociales. Si bien esto no es malo en sí mismo, el problema es que podamos quedar atrapados por el materialismo, y olvidar que: "El hombre no debe vivir solo del pan, sino de cada palabra que viene de la boca de Dios (Mt 4, 4).
En la segunda lectura del 1 Pt 2, 4-9, Pedro nos recuerda quiénes somos realmente: "Una raza escogida, un sacerdocio real, una nación consagrada, un pueblo apartado para cantar las alabanzas si Dios..." Aquí, Pedro destaca nuestra participación en el sacerdocio de Cristo por medio del "sacerdocio común o general" de to- dos los creyentes en virtud de nuestro bautismo... Sí, el bautismo nos configura para convertirnos en "sacerdotes". Es por eso que todos y cada uno de nosotros podemos bendecirnos unos a otros,... oren unos por los otros, e incluso bautizan a alguien que está en peligro de muerte... En virtud de nuestra unción con el aceite del crisma durante el bautismo, estamos igualmente consagrados a Dios y, por lo tanto, apartados. Además, el sacramento de la confirmación es necesario para la realización de la gracia bautismal y, por lo tanto, a través de ella deja en el creyente un carácter indeleble por el poder del Espíritu Santo... Pedro nos recuerda, pues, nuestra herencia sacerdotal y real. Igualmente nos llama a vivirlo de una manera que sea apropiada. En palabras de orden, si nos acercamos a Cristo, nuestro principal sacerdote, debemos estar a la espera ofreciendo sacrificios aceptables a Dios. Al tiempo y a través de esto, llegamos a ser aceptables para Dios y nos convertimos en casas espirituales. En el evangelio de hoy (Jn 14, 1-12), Jesús nos asegura "sus compañeros sacerdotes", de un lugar en su reino: "No se preocupen vuestros corazones... hay muchas habitaciones en la casa de mi padre... para que donde estoy usted puede estar también. Esto es una clara indicación de que, en virtud del bautismo, somos verdaderamente hijos de Dios y compartimos el sacerdocio y la realeza de Jesucristo. Por eso nos considera dignos de estar donde va a estar. Desafortunadamente, muchos de nosotros... no sé quiénes somos, o in- cluso creer que hay un hermoso lugar preparado para nosotros por Cristo en la casa de su Padre. Por lo tan- to, actuamos como el "dudoso Thomas" y el "ignorante Felipe." Es porque dudamos de esta verdad contada por Jesús, o porque, somos ignorantes de ella que vivimos nuestras vidas de todos modos y así olvidamos quiénes somos. Esta es también la razón por la que muchos de nosotros no podemos maximizar nuestros potenciales sacerdotals y reales. Como sacerdotes y personas de sangre y decentes reales, debemos afir- marnos positivamente. Se necesita fe para registrarnos plenamente en esta posición y vivirla. Jesús nos dice: "¡Yo soy la verdad y la luz...! Por lo tanto, si lo seguimos y formamos nuestro sacerdocio y nuestra vida sacerdotal después de la suya, lo haremos bien, así como estaremos donde está. Por lo tanto, pidamos a Dios Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo que nos ayude a vivir como miembros de la dinastía real y celestial, donde Cristo nuestro sumo sacerdote reina y nos ha establecido habitaciones sus 'compañeros sacerdotes'". Pensamientos sobre el Día de la Madre Nos gustaría compartir con ustedes un extracto de un artículo titulado "María y el significado del Día de la Madre", escrito por Jenny Uebbing, fechado el 11 de mayo de 2017 y encontrado en el sitio web Católico de Denver. "... María tuvo una experiencia radicalmente diferente de maternidad del resto de nosotros, al menos en la superficie. Sólo un bebé, y lo que un modelo ejemplar en eso! Un esposo santo que apoyó en silencio sus decisiones (ella era perfecta, después de todo), un niño que nunca tanto como la puso los ojos en la mira en sass, y la seguridad de Dios de que sus esfuerzos domésticos merecerían una recompensa celestial in- sondable. Mary no tenía que preocuparse "¿estoy haciendo esto bien?" o "¿lo arruinaré?" Y apuesto a que nunca tuvo ganas de huir de la casa en Nazaret cuando José regresó de la tienda de madera por la noche. Y sin embargo. Miro el fiat de María que altera la historia en la Anunciación y veo que su rendición no fue la muerte por mil pañales. Su consentimiento para rendirse (fue) inmediato, fue inmenso, y estaba en curso. Ese sí ferviente y fecundo al principio de su maternidad abarcaría el resto de su vida en la tierra y trazaría el curso de su papel en la eternidad. Y en su rendición, abrió el curso de los acontecimientos humanos a una interrupción divina como la que el universo nunca había visto.
El corazón de María estaba lo suficientemente abierto como para recibir todo el poder del amor del Espíritu
Santo, una fuerza tan poderosa que de su vientre virgen, Dios el niño saldría nueve meses después. Ese es el
tipo de amor del que está hecha la mejor mamá del mundo.
Y su vida con Jesús, por más impregnada de divinidad, no estaba exenta de dolor y trabajo. Pienso en la an-
siedad de los tres días que ella y José buscaron a Jesús preadolescente, habiendo perdido de vista en un viaje
familiar por carretera a Jerusalén; de la confianza y el valor radicales que se necesitó para lanzarlo a Su minis-
terio en Caná, sabiendo que el camino a Jerusalén terminaría en el Calvario. Y, por supuesto, es imposible
pensar en María sin llamar a la mente una imagen de la Piedad de Miguel Angel, una madre aplastada y
afligida sosteniendo el cuerpo maltratado y sin vida de su Amado Hijo.
En resumen, María lo vio todo. Y eso la convierte en el modelo perfecto para todos nosotros, no importa
cuán pocos o numerosos sean nuestros hijos, y no importa cuán grande o cuán escondidas sean nuestras cru-
ces. Este Día de la Madre, pidamos a María que nos muestre el poder radical de la rendición, y la belleza de
un corazón plenamente disponible para vivir la vocación".
Oración de Bendición para las Madres
(así como para aquellos que han sido como madres de alguna manera):
Dios Amoroso,
como una madre da vida y alimento a sus hijos,
así que velas por Tu Iglesia.
Les pedimos que bendigan a estas mujeres,
para que puedan fortalecerse como madres cristianas.
Que brille el ejemplo de su fe y amor.
Concédenos que nosotros, sus hijos e hijas,
puede honrarlos siempre
con un espíritu de profundo respeto, amor y gratitud.
Concédelo por medio de Cristo nuestro Señor.
Amén.
