Just like the whole Mount Gambier team, he embraced and supported change, testing and providing feedback on the Transmate App when it was first launched. He is just a really great guy, and from what we suspect he is probably also a bit of a local legend. But that is just speculation... Trust us, Skinny, we know how lucky we are to have had someone like you on the team, and stay with us for such a long time! IT NEWS 2020 was a big year in terms of innovation at BT. With the launch of a new transport management system came the rollout of a sign-on-glass mobile application; we also launched an online job board for our sub-contractors, and continued to roll out our on- line contractor and employee onboarding platforms (more details on this in the HSSE & Compliance section). Earlier in 2020, we delivered inverters to the site. The loads arrived at the port of Geelong and BT’s Victoria office managed the shipment from off-wharf services and container de-stuffing to transport and de- livery in New South Wales. WIN WIN WIN (A FEEL GOOD STORY) A tale about professional internships and an exchange beyond ‘business as usual’ BT Transport & Logistics has been hosting interns regularly for nearly a decade, and the experience continues to bring benefits to all parties involved. As a result, we have a well established relationship with Navitas, an Australian professional development and education provider that helps tertiary students, graduates and young profession- als to access work placements, mentoring and training with respected Australian and global businesses. A popular choice for international graduates is Navitas’ Professional Year Program, available for Accounting, IT and Engineering. The program consists of nine months of coursework and a 12-week internship. The COVID-19 pandemic with its social distanc- ing requirements and many people working from home has made it harder for interns to find a suitable internship. This makes the story that follows even more wholesome. In August this year, after having been pre- sented with an impressive resume and meeting the candidate in person, we de- cided to offer a work placment to Janak, our first ever Structural Engineering intern. Originally from Nepal, Janak was to be involved in our new depot development at Burton, South Australia. However, it became clear very quickly that Janak with his Navitas Professional Year Program the project was not at the right stage for us certificate; and an APC camp en route to WA to get Janak involved, which would have led to a less-than-ideal learning experience employs a number of engineers at their for him. A BIG THANKS TO THE BT HELPDESK TEAM! With the launch of our new Transport Management System Transmate, our brand new in-house IT Helpdesk was born. Two staff members and a then-intern took on the challenge to assist customers with the online portal, drivers and sub-contractors with the Transmate mobile app, and office staff with training requirements, queries and troubleshooting. You may already know their voices, so now put a bitmoji to a name: Meet Li, Amit and Annie. Li missed our in-promtu photo Li joined BT in October 2019 as an IT Intern during his shoot for this publication, so Professional Year Program with Navitas, an organisation here’s his Bitmoji... that organises placements and provides professional training for recent graduates of various academic disciplines. Following his 12-week placement, during which he co-developed the BT Loading Bay, Li accepted the position of IT Suppor Officer and has further developed the online job board platform, as well as our new company website. Amit was thrown into the deep end: Also an intern from Navitas, he started his placement in June 2020, only days before our new system launch. Not only was he up for the Helpdesk task, but also proactive in applying his programming skills to the business’s needs. After completing his placement, Amit also stayed on as IT Support Officer, and with Python his preferred programming language, he has been working on system integrations, reporting solutions and web development. Annie re-joined BT in 2020 in a permanent role as Executive Assistant, after having helped out in admin, compliance, marketing, and the workshop in previous years. What was missing on the job rotation: the IT Helpdesk. While Annie’s ‘coding’ capabilities are largely limited to internet search, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, she is glad to have finally internalised the Golden Rule of IT: Try turning it off and on again.
