V.S.D.A. President’s Report
Hello Members/Dancers
Last month has been a busy one. The V.S.D.A. held its Annual Gen-
eral Meeting of the association on the 28th of March, with between 25-30
members in attendance, giving the V.S.D.A. enough members in attend-
ance to form a quorum. All motions concerning the By-Laws that were
put forward to the members at AGM, were carried unanimously. An up-
dated copy of the By-Laws will be available on the VSDA website
www.vsda.asn.au or by contacting the secretary by email
(secretary@vsda.org.au). Members will also be pleased to know that the
motion of a “free year” of membership to all members who were finan-
cial as of 30th June 2020 also passed unanimously.
With an AGM comes elections, and with elections come changes to
the V.S.D.A. committee. I would like to thank Colin Dandridge, Ralph
and Lyn Weise and Dianne Morris who leave the committee, and wel-
come Tania Parmley, Julie Leydon, Charmaine Jameson and Nathan
Gladman to the committee. With Colin leaving the committee, the posi-
tion of Vice President has been taken up by Robert (Robbie) Borchard. I
look forward to working with you all.
After the first meeting of the new committee, some of the roles have
changed. Glen Cassar becomes Membership Officer, Julie Leydon be-
comes Social Media Officer and Charmaine Jameson becomes Youth Del-
egate. All other roles remain the same.
The V.S.D.A. is still having trouble securing a hall for a State Conven-
tion, with not only federal and state governments laws to contend with,
but also local governments which have their own set of restrictions as
well. Most hall hires are only accepting regular bookings and not accept-
ing one-off bookings. If they are accepting bookings, then they’re not
accepting deposits or giving confirmation until 28 days before the event.
This makes it very hard for the committee to make arrangements to
book a hall. The V.S.D.A. will keep all members informed on any devel-
opments. Covid-19 is very unpredictable, and situations can change
very quickly.

Victorian Callers Association
Plans are underway and we are working toward our V.C.A. seminar weekend
and dance in July. We are just waiting for confirmation of the venue, so keep
an eye out for more details. It is always great to have an opportunity for the
V.C.A. members to spend time learning and growing and practising skills togeth-
er and then to present material at a dance. Our next meeting will be held in
May.

Hello there,
It was a very wet and windy day for our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser! Neverthe-
less, those that worked that day had a great time and raised some money to go
towards our Spring Festival later this year. Thank you also to those that worked
behind the scenes in preparation for the day. Well done, team!
On Saturday the 24th April, the committee met at our place for the meeting (of
course there was plenty of food), followed by a Spring Festival meeting and a
working bee to make the decorations - well ahead of the September deadline.
Due to some ongoing Covid issues, Paula and Warwick Armstrong did not, un-
fortunately, make it to Adelaide over the Easter break for the 17 th South Austral-
ian Round Dance Festival. Victorian dancers reported having a great time any-
way, and of learning a few new dances that they are keen to see on the club
programs back here in Victoria.
And finally, congratulations to Coral, Barry, and the dancers of Harlequin
Rounds – they recently celebrated their 10th birthday.

We've enjoyed some great dancing the past few weeks - including 2 super
theme nights for St Patrick's Day and Easter. A number of our dancers are
heading to Tasmania where Jaden is feature caller for the Launceston Square
Dance Clubs 70th Birthday.
We'll be celebrating our 9th Birthday with a dance on the 22nd May. There
will be Plus in the afternoon, with Mainstream & Rounds in the evening (see
ad). We'd love to see a good crowd along to help us celebrate. As our Aus-
traliana Spectacular weekend has been moved to November, we have decided
to have a separate birthday dance.
Speaking of our Australiana Spectacular - mark down November 12th-14th
this year in your calendar. Steve Turner, Jason Dean, James Reid, Kevin
Kelly & Jaden Frigo will all come together to bring you an outstanding week-
end of dancing.

Well at long last we have once again joined the troops and are back danc-
ing. Of course everyone is happy to be back again after a whole year off.
Still a lot of rules to abide by, but that is ok. Same as all clubs a bit of sani-
tizing too do. But, good to be back. Please note we also have limited num-
bers allowed at the hall, so registrations are necessary, at this point in time.
We will be bringing back in early May our beginners from 2020 who unfor-
tunately only managed a couple of weeks before lock-down. They are still
eager to come back which is good. Happy Birthday to everyone who has a
birthday this month.
Look forward to seeing you all on the dance floor very soon.

The first few months at Casey have been big ones. In February we welcomed
Julie’s and Mat’s baby girl Eleanor, in March we celebrated Clare’s 60th birthday
and in April we celebrated Geoff’s 70th birthday!!!
In May we will be finally welcoming beginners back to Casey, our first night is
May the 7th at 7.30pm and we will welcome new dancers to join until the end of
May, if you know anyone who would like to learn dancing and they live local to the
Casey area please let them know they are welcome at Casey SDC, beginners will
be every Friday night 7.30-9.30pm. If any mainstream dancers are able to help
out, please come to club ½ an hour earlier, thank you!
Our next theme night is on the 11th June with “Queens Birthday – Dress like a
Royal”!
If you are visiting, please don’t forget to sign in via our QR code or manually at
the door and please BYO drink bottle and coffee cup.

Late March we held a shortened, covid-safe, fundraiser dance for the Roy-
al Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and we managed to raise $1220-00.
This was a great effort due to current situation, thanks to everyone who came
along to support our function.
Next, we held a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Caroline Springs and raised a
further $729-20 towards next year’s fundraiser, thanks to Carmel, Greig, Lois
and Alison for your time and assistance, much appreciated.
We are continuing to have good numbers at club, and also have got some
new beginners, all adds to the fun. Mark Collins has also been a regular,
which gives a Ralph a break from calling. We wish Launceston Square Dance
Club a very happy 70th birthday, we will be thinking of you and apologies for
not being able to attend.

We’re back!!!! We are thrilled to be back dancing on Wednesday evenings
(7.30pm to 9.30pm) in our regular hall. The layout inside the hall is a little
different and we are not able to have a shared supper but that’s ok, it’s a
chance to dance off a Covid kilo or 2. There is currently no requirement to
register to dance and there is now excited chit chat amongst dancers as the
covid jab roll out increases.
It was great to welcome back Paul who has not been able to join us until
now. We also welcomed Julieanne from Geelong and hope she had a good
night. Several members have headed south to join in the festivities of Laun-
ceston’s 70th birthday. We wish them safe travels and a fun time. We thank
Mary & Tony who graciously opened up there home to allow us to dance to-
gether before we were able to commence dancing at the hall.

It's been so good to get back on the dancefloor the past couple of months.
We've had at least 2 sets every week - all enjoying the fun atmosphere and
great dancing.
Due to our usual hall being renovated, we've been dancing at Moorooduc.
We are intending to return to our normal hall (Mornington Seniors) on Friday
30th April.
Please note also, that our Birthday dance has been moved back a week to
Friday 18th June (more information next month). We'd love to welcome some
visitors to our Friday morning dances, but please ring Jaden ahead to check
we are running & which venue we are in.

Unfortunately, we are not back dancing yet but negotiations are proceed-
ing to get approval to use our usual hall at Paynesville Uniting Church. Hope-
fully, we will be back in action very soon.
We regret that due to uncertainties around COVID 19 and the difficulties
that may arise we have decided to to cancel our annual Riviera Roundup for
October 2021. However, all our forward bookings are in place to stage the
event on the 4th weekend in October 2022.
Not much else to report but hopefully by this time next month we will be
up and dancing.

Hello from Essendon. We have not, as yet, resumed but are getting close.
The Council have not confirmed at this stage what the new requirements
are regarding the Covid Safe plan, but we have been told what they are likely
to be and so have put in a revised plan with the application to restart.
We now await their pleasure in getting back to us and if all goes well then,
we will fix a date to restart, and the long wait will be over.
Until the next time, hopefully we will be dancing.

Recently we celebrated Harlequin Rounds 10th Birthday with a fun after-
noon of dancing and afternoon tea. Many thanks to everyone who supported
us on that day and also to those who have supported us in the past. Our
dance journey has been wonderful and all the better with the many dancers
we have shared it with over the years.
I also had a ‘milestone’ birthday this year, so we have been in party
mode. Many thanks to Ella for the lovely scones, jam, and cream for after-
noon tea.
Harlequin Rounds is currently being run from 2.00pm till 6.00pm and this
seems to be suiting all our dancers. We commence with a beginner / refresh-
er of basics and progress on during the afternoon to higher levels.

Recently, 44 members of our club had a very enjoyable social evening at
the Village Green in Mulgrave. They provide a buffet, so there was plenty for
everyone to eat. Even our vegetarians and gluten-frees didn't go hungry. It
was nice to have the time to talk to everyone and we finally met young Lucas
Park who was born during the COVID lockdown. Such a sweetie.
Don't forget our 37th Birthday on 8th May at the Southern Community Cen-
tre, 27 Rupert Drive, Mulgrave. Plus starts at 2pm, mainstream from 3pm to
5pm, with a tea break until 6.30, then the evening continues with Rounds and
Squares. Please bring your own food if you are staying over the tea break.
There are plenty of take away places in the area if you prefer to purchase
something.

It started out as a quiet month as we did not dance over Easter and, alt-
hough there were still a few away, we had a great night the next fortnight. It
was great to see Sasha back and to have Andrew dancing, and we welcomed
Ross and Christine from NSW for the first time. We had three sets dancing
Plus at the start of the night.
Be sure to mark our Plus dance in May in the Calendar - we would love to
have you join us. Remember we start at 8:00 pm on the Plus nights.

How fortunate we are to have the Masonic Hall, Werribee as our dance
venue. With plenty of 'off street' parking, heating/cooling and a solid wood
floor and hot water for the 'cuppa' if required (paper cups, tea, coffee, etc.
provided - self serve). Watching the dancers progress and gain confidence is
the only reward required. A smile says it all.
All Covid requirements are adhered too and for that reason please contact
Carol prior to attending.

Our new dancers are flying along and will soon be graduating. Now we
start teaching the movements from all positions. That will be a lot of fun for

Happy holidays to a few of our dancers off for short trips soon. David and
June are holidaying in Tasmania for a month and catching up with family in
Melbourne. Kathy is staying in Adelaide & helping out one of her family, while
Linley will be travelling to Wallaroo to watch the Masters Games and look up
some family history. Maureen is getting ready to party when she celebrates
her 70th birthday very soon. Happy birthday.
A couple of our dancers are on the sick or injured list. We wish them a
speedy recovery. It's great to hear that John Casey is recovering from his
recent illness.
We're all looking forward to our Spud Night coming up soon.

Hope everyone had a good Easter and did not over-indulge in the choco-
lates and hot cross buns.
Despite the freezing cold weather our first dance in April was a great day.
Just had to dance more to keep warm. The following week numbers were
down a bit, but we still had a great day of dancing and at least it was not so
cold.
Preparations for our birthday on July 18th are well in hand with our theme
set as ”L” Plates!
We are looking forward to 3 dances in May – see calendar for dates. After
that we settle into the pretty regular fortnightly dances for the rest of the
year.
Good to see Jean back at club and dancing again and also to see that
Niel’s arm is definitely on the mend.

Dance nights at SCP have been fun and we are now getting used to scan-
ning our QR code on entry to the venue. Welcome to the visitors we had dur-
ing the month, it was great to have you join us. Congratulations to George
who managed to pull an Ace out of the pack to win the jackpot. We wish Stan
all the best as he gradually returns to dancing.
The Covid19 immunisation is slowing making its way into the arm of danc-
ers and adding confidence to return to dancing.
SCA welcomed Christine & Ross from NSW, Helen from Qld as well as AJ,
Andrew, Sasha, Glen, Alistair & Kirsty. It was a fantastic night and numbers
swelled to 4 sets. We bid a safe sailing and happy dancing to those who
headed to Tasmania for the Launceston birthday dance.
Please remember to bring a cup/drink bottle with you to the dance.
