Magazine Editorial This year’s magazine has been put together by a group of dedicated students for the first time in many years. We have worked together tirelessly and enthusiastically on Wednesday afternoons to produce what you have in front of you. There has been some stress, but mostly lots of laughter in the process! We wish to thank all the staff and students who have contributed articles, photos, and work towards this edition of the magazine. We really appreciate the time you have put into them. Most of all we want to thank Mrs Takarangi and Mr O’Keefe for giving us this opportunity and for keeping us under control (most of the time!). We hope you thoroughly enjoying reading this special 60th edition of our school magazine. Becoming an Ex-Spotswoodian (Alumni) When you complete your secondary schooling at Spotswood College you become an ex- spotswoodian and are part of the College’s Alumni. Spotswood College opened in 1960, and currently there are nearly 20,000 ex-spotswoodians (Alumni). The word Alumni is used to refer to a group of people who have graduated from a school or University. Males are referred to Alumnus and Females as Alumna. Your Alma mater is your old school, college or university. It's generally used as a positive term, implying reverence and loyalty for the nurturing qualities of the institution. Alma mater comes from two Latin words meaning "nourishing or bountiful mother." In 2008, a group of ex-spotswoodians formed the Spotswood College Alumni Trust in order to keep the alumni up to date with the news and successes of other alumni, and to support the College, its staff and students in the future. The Trust is a fully registered Charitable Trust (CC24439). THERE ARE 3 MAIN METHODS THAT THE TRUST IS USING FOR COMMUNICATING WITH THE ALUMNI:- ALUMNI EMAIL NEWSLETTERS: The Alumni newsletters are emailed out four times per year at the start of each term. The Alumni encourages all students to register on this database at: alumni.spotswoodcollege.school.nz ALUMNI FACEBOOK PAGE: https://facebook.com/SpotswoodCollegeAlumni/ ALUMNI WEBSITE: https://www.spotswoodcollegealumni.co.nz TO CONTACT THE ALUMNI, THE EMAIL ADDRESS IS:- spotswoodcollegealumni@gmail.com 10 OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY SPOTSWOOD COLLEGE SCHOOL MAGAZINE 2019 11
