MERCY MISSION ASH WEDNESDAY & PROJECT COMPASSION Ash Wednesday is the first day of our Lenten Season. MERCY MISSION HARMONY DAY The core message of Harmony Day is “Everyone Belongs”, a day where we focus on the values of mutual respect, fairness It’s about community participation, and a sense of belonging for everyone. and inclusiveness, the values that Mercy College focus on. MERCY MISSION MERCY Mercy Day was celebrated on September 22nd as a whole College and Community event. DAY Mercy College held their annual fun day, starting with Mass and attended by students, staff and Sisters of Mercy Sr Catherine, Sr Mary, Sr Noreen, Sr Kaye and Sr Margaret. Fr Sam celebrated Mass with us and Christian Drama and Dance were part of the liturgy. Our College was then transformed into a mini Royal Show where students participated in a fair. Entertainment included an animal farm, bouncy castle, mini train and a number of food stalls such as Argentinian BBQ, fairy floss and cake stalls. The Silent Disco was really popular with all INSIGHT 2017 | MERCY MISSION ages. The day ended with Mercy Idol run by the College’s Arts team. Students showcased their gifts and talents of singing, acrobatics and ANZAC dancing and a good time was had by all. The Sisters of Mercy, who have traditionally contributed and supported our College, use the $6000 raised from Mercy Day for Mercy Works and the relief and development arm for the Sisters in Australia. MERCY MISSION WHEELCHAIRS FOR KIDS In Term Three we held a quiz night to support our fundraising goals. The night was a resounding success with over thirty tables of staff, students, parents, alumni and friends enjoying the evening. Over $5000 was raised on the night. The highlight of the evening was the winning staff table donating their first prize back to Brother Olly Pickett. A big thank you to the students who have assisted throughout the year. Wheelchairs for Kids Coordinator, Ms Christobel Thaung, has been a great support for many years and we thank her for her continued efforts. It was also great to have Mrs Melissa Traeger and Mrs Louise Stott join the Wheelchairs for Kids team this year. Their time and effort was appreciated by Brother Olly & his volunteers. We look forward to them both being a part of the team again in 2018. We have now raised over $25,000 for Wheelchairs for Kids! This was a fantastic achievement for all involved!
