The Third Sunday after Pentecost
Chiming of the Hour
Organ Meditation “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” (Faithfulness)
arr. Dan Miller
Welcome and Call to Worship Matt Rosencrans
God has made for us two kinds of eyes: those of flesh and those of faith. When you
come to the sacred initiation, the eyes of the flesh see water; the eyes of faith behold the
Spirit. Those eyes see the body being baptized; these eyes see the old existence being
buried.
— John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople and Church Father (347-407)
Musical Summons “Let Us Break Bread Together” Stephen Gusukuma
Litany of Confession Katie Cook
One: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Most merciful God, we
confess that we have sinned against you…
Many: in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we
have left undone.
One: We have not loved you with our whole heart;
Many: We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
One: We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
Many: For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your
name.
One: Almighty God, have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus
Christ,
Many: Strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep
us in eternal life. Amen.
— The Book of Common PrayerPrayer of Thanksgiving Katie Cook
Old Testament Reading Ezekiel 17:22-24 Carolyn Wilkes
Epistle Reading 2 Corinthians 5:6-17 Stan Wilkes
Gospel Reading Mark 4:26-34 Stephen Gusukuma
One: This is the Word of the Lord.
Many: Thanks be to God.
Prayers of God’s People Stephen Gusukuma
Offertory “We Walk by Faith” (Dunlap’s Creek)
James Biery

Children’s Sermon Leslie Rosencrans
All children are invited to come forward for the Children’s Sermon.
Preschoolers [ages 4-kindergarten] may then go to Extended Session.
Responsive Reading of Psalm 92:1-4, 12-15 Scott Turner
One: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
Many: to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by
night,
One: to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.
Many: For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of
your hands I sing for joy.
One: The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Many: They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of
our God.
One: In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap,
Many: showing that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no
unrighteousness in him.Sermon “The Unseen Things” Erin Conaway
(2 Corinthians 5:6-17)
Communion
Please come forward down the two side aisles and return to your seat via the center
aisle or the ones nearest the walls. In order to prevent crowding, please wait in your
pew until the pew in front of you has received Communion before walking forward.
The Communion elements are together in one cup with the bread on top. Erin will
instruct you when to take each element.
Silent Reflection
Especially among Christians in positions of wealth and power, the idea of reading
the Gospels and keeping Jesus’ commandments as stated therein has been replaced by a
curious process of logic. According to this process, people first declare themselves to
be followers of Christ, and then they assume that whatever they say or do merits the
adjective “Christian.”
— Wendell Berry, Blessed are the Peacemakers:
Christ’s Teachings of Love, Compassion, and Forgiveness
Hymn of Commitment, No. 573 “It Is Well with My Soul”
