Village Church of East Atlanta - WELCOME TO VILLAGE CHURCH!
Village Church of East Atlanta

                        WELCOME TO VILLAGE CHURCH!
Our desire is to be a church that is in, of, and for East Atlanta Village and its surrounding
neighborhoods. We believe that the church is not a place to go, or an event to attend, but a
community of people who have been changed by the love and grace of God in Jesus Christ. As
those who have been so loved, the church is called to love and bless whatever place it finds
itself. That’s why we hope to not only be a church that meets in the neighborhood, or is simply
made up of people from the neighborhood, but we desire to be for the neighborhood, working
 for its care and welfare.

“Perhaps one of the things that most undermine the development of our intimate relationship with God is our inability to realize and accept the
fact that God does really want an intimate relationship with us, that we are really important to him.” - Basil Pennington

GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS SONG OF CONFESSION: 139
                                                                         Kings Kaleidoscope, 2014
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
You heard my first heartbeat before I could breathe
CALL TO WORSHIP Before my first cry, You knew me
You knit me together when I was conceived
We give you thanks, great God, When I was designed, You knew me
for the hope we have in Jesus,
who died but is risen and rules over all. You know what I wonder before I can speak
We praise you for his presence with us. Before my first thoughts, You know me
Because he lives, we look for eternal life, You see what I'm dreaming when I go to sleep
knowing that nothing past, present, When I'm waking up, You know me!
or yet to come can separate us from your great love I could run away or hide beneath the sea
made known in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. You'd still hear my prayers!
I could climb the peaks or dive beyond the deep
PRAYER OF INVOCATION You are always there!

Stay with us, blessed stranger, for the day is far spent, (Liturgist, Congregation)
and we have not yet recognized your face Lord,
in each of our sisters and brothers. You have searched me and known me.
Stay with us, blessed stranger, for the day is far spent,                You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
and we have not yet shared your bread in grace you discern my thoughts from far away.
with our brothers and sisters. You see me when I walk or lie down,
Stay with us, blessed stranger, for the day is far spent, you know every detail of my conduct.
and we have not listened to your Word Even before a word is on my tongue,
in the words of our sisters and brothers. O Lord, You know it completely.
Stay with us, blessed stranger,                                          Examine me, and know my heart, O God;
because our very night becomes day when you are there. Amen. test me and know my thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me,
SONG OF APPROACH: Fairest Lord Jesus and lead me in the way that leads to eternal life.
August H. Hoffmann von Fallersleben & Ernst Richter, 1842 (Now is a time of silent confession for specific and personal sins)
Trans. by Richard Storrs Willis & Joseph August Seiss, 1873
You crafted the heavens and care for my soul
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, In all of Your ways You're holy!
Son of God and Son of Man! When I'm lost in darkness and far from my home
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor, Your hand guides my way and holds me!
Thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown!
I could run away or hide beneath the sea
Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, You'd still hear my prayers!
Robed in the blooming garb of spring! I could climb the peaks or dive beyond the deep
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, Oh my God, You are there!
Who makes the woeful heart to sing!
You are the God who knows and loves me!
Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight, The God of David! The Rock of Ages!
And all the twinkling, starry host! You are the King who dwells above me!
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer The King of Zion! the Mighty Lion!
Than all the angels heav'n can boast!
Beautiful Saviour! Lord of the nations! ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Ephesians 2:4-7
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration, God, who is rich in mercy,
Now and for evermore be thine! out of the great love with which he loved us
even when we were dead through our trespasses,
made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
REMEMBRANCE OF THE LAW: Micah 6:8 and raised us up with him and seated us with him
“‘He has told you, O mortal, what is good; in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
and what does the LORD require of you so that in the ages to come he might show
but to do justice, and to love kindness, the immeasurable riches of his grace
and to walk humbly with your God? in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith: As you have been fed at this table, go to feed the hungry.
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again! As you have been set free, go to set free the imprisoned.
                                                                         As you have received, give.

SONG OF REFLECTION: On The Journey To Emmaus
Marty Haugen, 1995
On the journey to Emmaus with our hearts cold as stone-
the One who would save us had left us alone.
Then a stranger walks with us and, to our surprise,
he opens our stories and he opens our eyes
And our hearts burned within us as we talked on the way,
how all that was promised was ours on that day.
So we begged him, 'Stay with us and grant us your word.'
We welcomed the stranger and we welcomed the Lord
And that evening at the table as he blessed and broke bread,
we saw it was Jesus aris'n from the dead;
Though he vanished before us we knew he was near -
the life in our dying and the hope in our fear
On the journey to Emmaus, in our stories and feast,
with Jesus we claim that the greatest is least:
and his words burn within us - let none be ignored -
who welcomes the stranger shall welcome the Lord!
2021 January - March Financial Update
