Ireland through the Ages Sept 5th—Sept 15th 2020/11 days DAY 1 & 2 : Seattle to Ireland The fun begins as you board your flight bound for Dublin, Ireland. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure. This evening, enjoy a welcome reception and orienta- tion with your tour manager. Meals: In-flight meals DAY 3 : Brú na Boinne—Tullamore Dew—Galway Visit Brú na Bóinne, a prehistoric burial site 1000 years older than the pyra- mids, after marveling at the enigmatic burial tombs we will depart for Tulla- more. The home of Tullamore Dew whiskey, we are going to tour the distillery and try a wee dram. We head west and explore the rich gaelic culture of Con- nemara on our way to Galway, called “The City of the Tribes” for its merchant history. Plenty of great pubs and music in town. Meals Included : Breakfast, Lunch DAY 4 : Aran Islands— Clifden We travel in the morning to Inis Mór the largest of the Aran Islands, the most westerly part of Ireland and a Gaelthact where Irish is spoken by many of the local people. We will tour Inis Mór by private minivan taking in the spectacular Dun Aengus, a large iron age fort, and the local history. In the afternoon we will return to the mainland and drive to the scenic town of Clifden in Connemara. Dinner is on your own tonight but there are many options of great pubs and restaurants to choose from in this charming town. Meals Included : Breakfast DAY 5 : Kylemore Abbey—Bunratty Folk Park—Medieval Castle Feast Today we will explore Connemara National Park and we will visit the spectacular Kylemore Abbey, The scenery today is spectacular, admire the lakes, mountains, and calm shades of green for which Ireland is renowned. We will drive south from Galway Bay through the rugged plateau known as the Burren to Bunratty, where the village and folk park will give you great insight into life in Ireland around the turn of the 20th century. Tonight we will have a feast in the medieval cas- tle itself like lords and ladies ! Meals included : Breakfast, Dinner
DAY 6 : Iveagh Peninsula—Dingle We will travel around the beautiful Dingle peninsula to visit early mo- nastic sites and experience the wildness of Ireland away from the crowds and soak in the magnificent views. This afternoon you will have free time for you to explore Dingle town, famous for Irish music and language. Meals included : Breakfast DAY 7 : Muckross House—Blarney castle—Kinsale We will venture to Killarney National Park and tour the Georgian Muckross House, this Tudor style house will give you an insight into the Anglo-Irish aristocracy in Ireland. After lunch will all get a chance to kiss the Blarney Stone on the way to the picturesque town of Kinsale, the gourmet capital of Ireland. We’ll have dinner at a local restaurant. Meals Included : Breakfast, Dinner DAY 8 : Kilkenny Walking Tour—Kilkenny Castle We will take a walking tour of the medieval city of Kilkenny with a lo- cal guide and tour the expansive castle, the home of the Norman Butlers of Ormande for over 500 years. Kilkenny Castle is one of the best pre- served and longest inhabited castles in the country. We will spend the night in this historic city , with its winding cobbled streets to explore. Meals Included : Breakfast DAY 9 : Glendalough—Kilmainham Gaol—Dublin literary pub crawl We will explore the monastic ruins of Glendalough a large settlement with a round tower, founded by St Kevin. From there we step into modern Ireland as we return to Dublin and visit Kilmainham Gaol now a museum that co- vers the 1916 rising. After settling into our hotel we will go on a tour of Dublin pubs to explore the literary heritage of Dublin. Meals Included : Breakfast DAY 10 : Dublin walking tour—Book of Kells—Guinness Storehouse—Irish Dance Show Today we will explore the city of Dublin with a walking tour of the city and a visit to see the Book of Kells a decorat- ed manuscript from 800 A.D. preserved in Trinity College. After lunch we will head to the Guinness Storehouse for a tour and taste of the black stuff. In the evening we will go to a fantastic show with Irish music and dancing. Meals Included : Breakfast, Dinner and Dance Show DAY 11 : Fly Dublin—Seattle Today we transfer to Dublin airport for our flight home to Seattle. We will leave the Emerald Isle for the Emerald city.
