The Programme ➢ 3 Professional Placements • 2 different school settings & consecutive age-phase requirement and before/after age-phase experience opportunities. • Placements can be in the following schools: state/academy/prep/faith/outstanding - requires improvement, ensuring programme compliancy with Ofsted regulations for ITE ➢ 3 Academic Modules * Curriculum & Pedagogy * Contemporary Issues in Education * Researching Teaching & Learning Induction Consolidation Qualifying
The Programme starts in January 2022, NOT in September 2021. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND FOUR INDUCTION DAYS at Canterbury Christ Church University. WED 5 to SAT 8 JANUARY 2022 (inclusive) THIS IS A 4 DAY FULL TIME INTRODUCTION TO THE PGCE FLEXI PROGRAMME, INCLUDING REGISTRATION. Your employers will need to be informed and confirm your availability to attend.
The PGCE Primary Flexible programme 2021-2022 You choose whether to take: 18 months 24 months or 36 months to gain your PGCE qualification. You choose whether you sign up for the: 3-7 years age phase or 5-11 age phase (This determines where you do your placements)
3 Placements Placement 1 = 20 days (4 weeks – full time) this can also be done part time - 3 or 4 (consecutive) days/week Placement 2 = 40 days (8 weeks -full time) this can also be done part time - 3 or 4 (consecutive) days/week Placement 3 = 60 days -12 weeks. This must be undertaken on a full-time basis. There is some flexibility about when you do your placements. * If you have considerable prior teaching experience in the classroom and are able to supply evidence of planning, teaching and assessing, you could apply for an exemption from Placement 1
You choose where you carry out your school placements. You can do a placement in your own school. Eg: Placement 1 School A – KS1 (Nursery/R) – small rural school Placement 2 same as above Placement 3 School B – KS2 (KS1) – city / faith school (You could also do P1 in School A, P2 in School B, then return to School A for your final Placement 3 .) You will be allocated a Personal Academic Tutor who will advise you during your Induction Days.
On placements, you will be working towards, and assessed against, the Teachers’ Standards (DfE, 2011)
3 academic modules (no choice here and submission dates are fixed) 3 academic assignments opportunity to gain 60 Masters’ level credits ( this is 1/3 of a full MA) * Contemporary Issues in Education * Researching Teaching & Learning * Curriculum & Pedagogy You will receive support with your academic work from a wide range of specialist tutors. All submissions are electronic and go through Turnitin
Core Teaching Days and Webinars • 18 throughout the year. • Required to attend minimum of 12 • Take place on Fridays and Saturdays • A pair for most months of the year • Range of primary curriculum subjects covered • You choose which to attend, although there is a logical order • Good opportunity to meet and network with other students from your own, and other, cohorts. • Support with academic and professional development. • Range of evening webinars each month .
