WELCOME Coastal Sound Music Academy was founded 31 years ago on the principle of “Music for your whole life, and music to make your life whole”. We have lived this principle each season through our learning, connecting, performing, touring and more. Now, as we face the reality that we cannot sing in person as full choirs for a while longer, we look to our roots: making lives better through the pursuit of music, whether that be online or in person. Isolation doesn’t mean isolated. Our online programming will continue to nurture the sense of joyful community and connection through music that our in-person programs offer. We’ll also be including some NEW opportunities to expand our musical learning this season, from learning Ukulele to Jazz History, Visual Art to choral arranging and so much more. Learn children’s songs from around the world, play song games, begin music reading,
explore voices and more!

Songs in parts, vocal exploration, music reading, sight-singing and more!

For adult singers, 19 years+
Improve your voice, feel connection and camaraderie, experience the emotional and
physical benefits of singing together and explore a wide variety of choral music in
SATB parts.

For singers in grades 6-9
Improve your voice, make friends, experience the emotional benefits of singing
together, go more in depth with music reading while exploring a wide variety of
choral music in SSA parts.

7:15-8:15pm | Coastal Sound Youth Choir Online
with Will & Krista
For singers in grade 10 to age 24
Improve your voice, feel connection and camaraderie, experience the emotional and
physical benefits of singing together and explore a wide variety of advanced choral
music in SATB parts. Singers accepted by audition.

Module A 5:45-6:45pm | Musical Theatre Fun with Angie
For kids & children up to grade 7
Explore singing and acting skills, with a focus on age appropriate music
from Broadway! This is a singing module.
8 sessions, Tuesdays October 6-November 24
Module B 6:00-7:00pm | Vocal Masterclass with Deanna
For youth & adults, grade 8 and older
Enhance your singing potential, build your individual vocal technique and explore
basics of tone, resonance, breath management and vocal control. Gain practical
strategies for improved vocal performance through weekly masterclasses sessions.
This is a singing module.

Module C 8:30-9:30pm | Jazz History with Kelly
For youth & adults, grade 8 and older
Explore the development and evolution of Jazz through curated listening activities,
discussion, creative response activities and more. No singing involved.

Module D 5:15-5:45pm | Ukulele for beginners with Laura
Any ages welcome; you’ll need your own ukulele instrument
Learn a few basic chords so that you can “hum and strum” along to simple songs!
This module is offered as a free bonus session. There will be some singing and lots of
playing ukulele!

Module E 6:00-7:00pm | Creativity Jam with Diana
For children & youth, up to grade 12; you’ll need basic
art-making supplies
We’ll be examining the crucible where different artforms intersect. Creative
explorations with art, music, movement, poetry and more! Learn strategies to find
connections and be a more creative thinker in your daily life. There will be some
singing, some movement, and lots of creativity!

Term 1
Module F 6:00-7:00pm | Piano/Keyboard Proficiency for Singers
with Krista
For children, youth & adults, grade 6 and up
Acquire basic familiarity with theory and the keyboard so you can play for yourself as
you practice singing! You’ll be able to read simple piano scores, play chords and learn
a short song on piano. No previous piano experience necessary. You’ll need a piano,
keyboard or piano app. No singing involved.

Module G 8:30-9:30pm | Choral Arranging and Composing
with Will
For youth & adults, grade 8 and older
Learn to harmonize a melody, navigate chord progressions, compose your own
music, and more! We will use a free music notation software for this module.
A basic ability to read music notation is helpful. Minimal singing involved.

Winter Additional Programming | January 12 - March 4
Modules for Winter will be available for registration in December 2020.
Schedule will be available mid-November.
Spring Additional Programming | April 13 - June 3
