PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Several months ago, outgoing Club president Henry Johnson challenged the Board of Directors to study the Club’s bylaws to consider any appropriate amendments. Like most organizations during the Covid restrictions, the Board could only hold its meetings via Zoom. Unfortunately, our bylaws don’t recognize a Zoom meeting as a legal board meeting and thus no business conducted was considered official. This scenario underscored the need to update/modernize the bylaws. In late fall, the Board appointed Board Member Dick Kauffold to form a Bylaws Committee; which included Bette Carter and Dave Lambert. In April, after several months of work, the committee made several recommendations to the Board of Directors; all of which were approved. These amendments will be submitted to the Equity Members for their review. In July, each Equity Member will receive a package in the mail containing the proposed amendments as well as a Kiki Matthews ballot to vote for or against these proposed amendments. We are asking that every Equity Member vote because a majority of eligible votes are required for passage. Please watch for more detailed information. The Forward Tee Project that has been talked about for several years is finally underway with construction having already started. Upon completion, the new tees will need time and warm weather for the grass to get well established. Hopefully, the Fourth of July will be the first play date and perhaps even earlier. While the forward tee construction crew is onsite, they will also be working on the Board approved solution to the long standing drainage problems on #14, which have included soggy areas and sink holes. To eliminate these problems decades old underground piping will be replaced. Watch for a nice improvement here. And I hope you have noticed that the long awaited clay court lifting project has been completed. Over 30 tons of new clay was installed and now the courts are ready for play. I look forward to seeing each of you playing golf, tennis or pickle ball, swimming or dining out at the Club this summer. I’ll be there and I hope you will be too! Here! Pool Season is Here! 828-692-2788 OPEN FOR THE SEASON Friday, May 21 | 12:00pm RESTRICTIONS? COVID RESTRICTIONS? No reservations are needed. No reservations accepted. MANAGER’S MESSAGE Something is going on here. There are so many people wanting to join Hendersonville Country Club, it is getting difficult for Membership Director Sarah Cioffi to keep up. Welcome to all our newest Members. We are so glad you are here. And thank you to all the Member who have sponsored a new Member. Welcome new Grill Manager Mike Cromartie. Mike joined our team in April and is getting acclimated quickly. Mike graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, and while attending there, fell in love with a beautiful fellow student from Hendersonville, NC. That beautiful young woman was Lindsay Humlecker, daughter of HCC Members Bill and Jana Humlecker. Mike and Lindsay are now married 10 years have 2 children with another on the way. Many of our Members do business with Lindsay, who is the talented owner of Gateaux Bakery. Mike left the Biltmore Anthony Chelena Estate to join us at HCC. Mike oversees the Grill and the pool snack bar. Lesa Balentine, our Golf Shop Merchandiser, has decided to retire. Lesa will remain a Member of Hendersonville Country Club and we hope to see her golfing here for many, many more years. The next time you see Lesa at the Club, she’s on her time and can’t special order your favorite shoes. See Jay for your merchandise needs. Lesa, thanks for your service. Have fun. As I write this message I’ve been trading phone calls with World Wide Trailers out of Waycross, GA. They are building our “Food Truck” and are already a couple weeks past their due date. Two weeks after the truck arrives, whenever that is, we will open the Food Truck daily from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM seven days a week. It’s a smallish menu but includes burgers, salads, wings, and sandwiches. There may be days during large events, such as Member Guest, when the Food Truck and downstairs patio will not be open. Members will place their order and pick up their order at the Food DinnerShow Truck service window. It isn’t table service. A bartender will be on hand to serve all your favorite beverages. Mark your calendar for Friday, July 2. That will be the night of the Club’s fireworks show. This summer is going to be GREAT!
