Protect Yourself
Against Mosquito Bites
With the onset of warmer weather, Spring is the
perfect time of the year to enjoy the outdoors.

Remember to take precautions against mosquito
bites, as we expect an increased in mosquito
activity during this time of the year.

• Cover Up – wear long, loose-fitting, light-coloured
clothing, covering as much of the body as you can.
• Repel – when you are outdoors and
    mosquitoes are present, apply insect
    repellent containing DEET (Diethyltoluamide)
or Picaridin evenly to exposed skin.
At home, you can also help to stop mosquitoes
breeding by cleaning up in the following ways:

• Empty out or discard containers and
    rubbish that may hold water.
• Keep swimming pools well chlorinated,
filtered and free of dead leaves.
• Clean out roof gutters to prevent
    water from pooling.

The City of Kwinana implements a mosquito
management program in partnership with
the City of Cockburn, to manage mosquito
populations through regular monitoring and
treatments at potential breeding sites.

upgrades
The Kwinana Loop Trail offers a unique opportunity
to take in some of Kwinana’s best views, while
experiencing the beauty of the City’s natural coastal
bushland. The hills and twists of the Loop Trail make
for an exciting ride, a peaceful leisurely walk, and
the perfect route for cross-country fitness training.

With support from Lotterywest, the City undertook
a new signage and rest stop project on the 21km
trail, which was completed in August 2020.

The project involved working with the Aboriginal
Community to develop twelve signs that reflected
Country, culture and both recent and ancient history.
It also included installation of more wayfinding signs,
two rest stops and new trail head map signs.

Cheryl Martin was selected as the artist that would
create an art piece for new maps, online resources
and to be developed into metal work for one of the
rest stops near Chalk Hill. Her colourful painting
‘Yebindjarup bydias calyute and noona in their
boojer’ pictures the colours and culture of the
land on which Kwinana and the Loop Trail sits.

New maps are now available from the
City’s community centres so why not take
some time to go and love the loop?

“I used to go to Storytime at library, now I can
share my story to Storytime. I will keep writing A long time ago there was a family. The family
story and maybe one day I will publish a book”. had a mum, a dad, a boy and a girl. One day
they decided to do a cooking show.
Dad said, “I will make thin yummy bread.”
The mum said, “I will make very yummy tom yum soup.”
The boy said that he will make some noodles and
the girl said she will make some ice cream.

Ready, set and GO! They were cooking faster and faster.
Except the boy. Because he didn’t want to mess it up.

At the end of the cooking show
                                                          everybody tested their food.
“EWWW!” said everyone except the boy.
He said, “WOOW! It tastes AMAZING.”
So everybody tested the boy’s noodles
                                                          and said “Oh, it’s yummy!”
So he had tried the best and won the trophy.

Putting the Right Thing in the Right Bin
The City recently conducted an audit on
waste and recycle bin contents in Kwinana to
ensure the right items are being recycled.

The audited recycling bins had over twenty per cent
                                   contamination from non-recyclable items being
placed in them, which is much higher than average.

Please make sure you put the right thing in the right bin.
