MESSAGE FROM THE CEO We care deeply about people and the community at Proof Strategies, and always have. As an independently-owned agency, our freedom enables us to give time and dollars generously to individuals and groups. As we have grown in size since the company’s start in 1994, we have also grown the ways that we give back. Our team members are engaged more than ever. We don’t just respond, we actively promote volunteering, giving and participation. A strong set of values is at the heart of any successful business. These values should be practiced consistently at every level. As founding CEO, it’s my firm belief that actions always speak louder than words. In our case, we consider these four components of success -- our company, our team members, the environment and our community. An example of our leadership is how we have embraced sustainability, operating as a carbon neutral organization since 2008. We have stepped up our efforts to entrench equity, diversity and inclusion. Always aiming to be inclusive, we want to do better. This report on our activities and commitments shares the results of our actions. It’s been a team effort, and I am delighted by the enthusiastic participation and leadership of many people who make up our family. As one person said in our 2020 employee survey: “I like the fact that Proof Strategies is more like a big family rather than a big corporate entity. There’s truly a friendly family feel about working here.” I only wish this report could fully capture our people’s energy and enthusiasm in implementing these great programs to help strengthen our communities. It’s a great story! With best wishes, “A strong set of values is at the Bruce MacLellan heart of any successful business. CEO These values should be practiced Proof Strategies consistently at every level.”

The Canadian Public Relations Society also recognized our commitment to ethical communications, professionalism and excellence with the 2020 Agency Team of the Year award. This accolade is especially important to us not only because it recognizes the work we do professionally, but also our contribution in the community. ™ CANADA 2020 6
OUR CULTURE At Proof Strategies, we have always believed that treating others how we would like to be treated is the key to building trust, team spirit and future success. Our investments in our people have solidified our ranking as one of the Best Workplaces™ in Canada. The Great Place to Work® survey helps us measure our progress and learn where we can improve. This achievement also impacts our output. Our entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative culture ensures our teams are all creative, responsive and driven to produce measurable results. A thriving culture is the glue that helps us stay strong through disruption, including recessions and the COVID-19 pandemic. Our people have proven that nurturing close and trusted relationships with each other and our clients is the key to facing challenges. As always, our job is to deliver innovative and results- driven strategies and programs that help our business and our clients weather these storms. 7
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY CONTRIBUTING TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE We are a business that operates with a broad perspective on how we measure our accomplishments. Our goal is to achieve success in four areas: - Company - People - Community - Environment We can’t think of a better blueprint for evaluating our social responsibility efforts than the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Many of our CSR programs support its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, like our fundraising for Second Harvest (Zero Hunger); our employee benefits program (Good Health and Wellbeing); our partnership with Bullfrog Power (Affordable and Clean Energy); our carbon neutral status (Climate Action); our Best Workplaces™ for Women designation (Gender Equality); our LEARN program (Quality Education); and our responsible sourcing, recycling and composting (Responsible Consumption and Production). Proof Strategies has also signed onto the Women’s Empowerment Principles Network (WEP) established by the United Nations Global Compact and United Nations Women Initiatives. 8
EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION We’re honoured to have made the list of Canada’s Best Workplaces™ for Inclusion in 2020. Offering an open and inclusive workplace brings varied perspectives to our services and fosters a culture where everyone feels welcome to express themselves. Within the Proof Strategies family, we can speak 20 languages and women represent more than 70 per cent of our management team. We’ve been working to strengthen our commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity in several ways, including: • Researching and analyzing emerging trends in diversity and equity management; • Fostering an inclusive environment, including creating the EDI Employee Resource Group; • Planning and implementing strategies related to increasing diversity, equity and inclusivity awareness; • Tracking and measuring progress towards diversity goals; • Providing formal education and training toward these goals; • And playing an active role in promoting these values within our industry, the community and with business partners. 11
In 2020, we joined other businesses, community leaders and organizations to address systemic racism, contribute to a more inclusive society and make real and lasting change. Our efforts have included identifying and supporting community organizations that advance equity with financial donations, using our social channels to amplify diverse voices and providing educational resources for employees, including sessions on Identifying & Halting Microagressions and Indigenous Perspectives. Additionally, our CEO, Bruce MacLellan, has joined or spearheaded several initiatives, including: • Signing onto the Women’s Empowerment Principles Network (WEP) established by the United Nations Global Compact and United Nations Women Initiatives; • Becoming the lead donor to launch two new CPRS Foundation scholarships administered by Indspire for Indigenous students pursuing an education in public relations; • Creating the Proof Strategies Scholarship in the Humber College Bachelor of Public Relations program; • Leading a movement to ban unpaid internships because they create obstacles for disadvantaged groups to join the PR profession; • And signing anti-racism pledges with BlackNorth and the Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms. “Our group is just one of the ways Proof Strategies is committed to the values of inclusion. Our goal is to support colleagues in being socially conscientious at work and in our communities. I’m so proud to work here.” Stephanie Malcolm - Senior Consultant and Member, EDI Employee Resource Group 12
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Personal development is integral to employee satisfaction and life success. Contributing to the continuing education of our team members has been one of the pillars of our company since inception. Whether through courses that build work-related skills or enhance our employees’ experiences and general knowledge, our people are always growing and learning at Proof Strategies. “A proud Proofer, I’ve had the opportunity to expand and develop my professional and personal skills through various courses and programs. I really appreciate that Proof Strategies invests in my continued growth.” Karishma Singh - Consultant 13
FLEXIBLE HOURS Many of us at Proof Strategies have families with young children and some of us are caring for aging parents. We take a flexible approach to balancing business needs with family commitments. That includes work-from-home considerations, as well as paid or unpaid leave options to allow people to manage family emergencies without feeling pressure from work. “It can be hard to manage the flow of a busy work and family life. At Proof Strategies I have the flexibility and support I need to strike a balance that meets the demands of both.” Stacey Flowers - Vice President 14
HEALTH & WELLNESS At Proof Strategies, we recognize the importance of supporting all aspects of our employees’ wellbeing. Our comprehensive benefits plan covers a variety of medical services including massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, dietitian consultations, mental health support and holistic medicine, in addition to critical illness insurance. We also offer a smoking cessation program that provides $500 towards program costs on top of the coverage from our group insurance plan, plus a $1,000 reward for remaining tobacco-free for six months. Employees with young children or aging parents have access to services from Kids & Company, which offers a guaranteed child care spot within six months and elder care for those with aging parents. Our Employee and Family Assistance Program operated by Homewood Health covers a wide range of counselling, coaching, support services and online resources. “Having a comprehensive benefits package is a big priority. If I ever need physiotherapy or even counselling services, it’s a relief knowing I’m covered.” Sarah Haney - Senior Consultant 15
OUR COVID-19 RESPONSE The global pandemic has created enormous challenges in our personal and professional lives. While we have been fortunate to continue with business as usual remotely, it has required many of our team members to become accustomed to working in isolation or combining their family environments with their work environments. Proof Strategies has recognized the need to step up and support our colleagues through this challenging time. In addition to keeping everyone informed and connected with regular town hall meetings and reminding them of the comprehensive health and wellness resources available to them, we have provided additional support in several ways, including: • Implementing Summer and Winter Nature Days where employees can take these days off work to get outside and enjoy the healing power of nature during the period of the pandemic • Enhancing our group benefits program to include additional mental health support • Boosting morale with remote social activities, including fun competitions for prizes, ice cream- making tutorials, and delivery of special gifts to help celebrate successes 16
SUPPORTING SUSTAINABILITY
SUSTAINABILITY CARBON NEUTRAL SINCE 2008 We believe strongly in making a significant contribution to environmental sustainability in all of our operations, from company-wide initiatives to small changes in our daily habits and processes. After starting with the Pembina Institute’s Corporate Consulting Department, we’ve worked to quantify our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for more than ten years. To maintain our net-zero GHG emissions status, we have implemented conservation and energy efficiency strategies, including purchasing offsets for any emissions that cannot be eliminated. In recent years, we sourced these offsets from Nature Conservancy of Canada through the Darkwoods Forest Carbon Project. Certified by the Verified Carbon Standard, this initiative works to protect British Columbia’s Darkwoods Forest and surrounding area. 18
SUSTAINABILITY At Proof Strategies, we make every effort to reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations whether staff are in the office or working from home. Some of the office-related measures include: • Creating commercial and office waste management and recycling programs • Disposing of batteries and electronics responsibly, donating retired office furniture and composting • Reducing paper consumption • Using double-sided printer default settings, microfibre kitchen cloths and 100 per cent post-consumer paper and paper towels • Creating a Greener Communities initiative with a $250 employee bicycle allowance, $500 hybrid car incentive, and transit passes for travel to local meetings 19
SUSTAINABILITY “Our Green Committee aims to promote good green habits, make it easier to maintain sustainability while working, and looks for ways to improve what we’re already doing.” Rebecca Beitchman - Vice President and Green Committee Lead 20
ENVIRO-FRIENDLY SUPPLIERS Proof Strategies holds our suppliers to the same high environmental and ethical standards we follow. Not only are we committed to reducing our total electricity consumption at our office, but we’ve also taken steps to ensure it’s sourced sustainably. Since 2007, we have worked with Bullfrog Power to put renewable electricity back onto the grid to match the amount of electricity we use. Other efforts include selecting the most environmentally conscious taxi firm for company transportation, using fair trade and eco-friendly office coffee suppliers, and hiring local green caterers for in-office events. For office supplies, we order environmentally responsible products that are ethically sound and post-consumer recyclable. 21
BULLFROG/ RENEWABLE ENERGY CARBON NEUTRAL SINCE 2008 Proof Strategies has been purchasing green electricity from Bullfrog Power since 2007, reducing our impact by 1,276 tonnes of CO2. That’s equivalent to: THAN 4 MORE 0 ING 4 DIVERT S TONNE TAKING MORE THAN 269 CARS OFF THE ROAD FOR A YEAR OF WA STE FR OM LAN DFILLS “Since Bullfrog’s early days, Proof Strategies has been not only a supporter but also a true partner in educating Canadians about, and inspiring them to commit to, renewable energy. Proof’s deep understanding, strategic mindset and flexible approach continues to make a valuable contribution to our mission of a fully renewable future.” Sean Drygas, President, Bullfrog Power Inc. 22
NATURE CONSERVANCY Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) partners with individuals, corporations, nonprofits and governments to protect the natural areas that sustain Canada’s plants and wildlife. Since 1962, NCC and its partners have helped conserve more than 35 million acres (14 million hectares) of ecologically significant land across the country. Proof Strategies purchases carbon credits from NCC’s Darkwoods Forest Carbon Project to support conservation in Canada and help mitigate the effects of climate change. NCC markets these high-quality carbon credits to qualified organizations interested in doing the same. On our 25th anniversary retreat to St. John’s, NL, NCC took Proofers on a guided nature hike around Freshwater Bay, where we learned about local ecology while enjoying the breathtaking natural beauty. Proof Strategies was proud to donate $5,000 toward the completion of NCC’s Freshwater Bay conservation project. Through our longstanding relationship with NCC, Proof Strategies has donated thousands of dollars in pro bono work, including issues management, government relations and media relations counsel. Our CEO, Bruce MacLellan, currently serves on the board and is the Past Chair of NCC’s Board of Directors. 23

We are truly grateful for their enduring partnership and generosity.” Lori Nikkel, CEO, Second Harvest 28
HOLIDAY DRIVE Since 2008, Proof Strategies has helped make a difference for those in need during the holiday season. Our annual holiday charity drive is a chance for our staff to come together and give back. In recent years, we have collected donations for Red Door Family Shelter, which serves families in need, refugees, and women fleeing violence.
