County Board Chairperson - Mick McGrath Tá fáilte róibh go léir chuig na cluichí leathcheannais iosghradú a bhéas ar siul an deireadh seachtaine seo. Is am an-deacair é seo d’imreoirí, lucht bainistiochta, oifigigh agus lucht féachana agus tá áthas ar CLG Dhún na nGall a bheith in ann na cluichí leathcheannais seo a shruthlú beo agus and clár fiorúil seo a sholáthar ina bhfuil an fhaisnéis is tábhachtaí. You are all very welcome to this weekend’s relegation semi-finals in the junior and senior championships. Unfortunately, one of the four games scheduled had to be postponedd for a week as a precautionay measure as a result of Covid-19. We have battled against the change in our lifestyles, our work , our social fabric, our families, and our sporting involvement. The GAA has seen many changes since its foundation, and it has originated from the roots and soul of our Gaelic traditions, but no member could have foreseen the changes wrought by Covid-19. The year 2020 will certainly remain in our memories as the year of transformation, and we continue to implement the many prevention measures required to keep this virus at bay. I encourage you all to continue the great work that we have all had a part to play in, and I thank you for the many hours of voluntary assistance you have contributed in your Club areas in assisting the HSE and others, in bringing safe and healthy practice to vulnerable and lonely members of our communities. On behalf of the GAA in Donegal I thank the frontline workers who have given so much to helping our society, in facing the challenge of the coronavirus. There was a period this year where we all thought that we wouldn’t get playing our games, but many difficulties were overcome to reach these championship playoffs. We have not agreed with all the instructions and regulations, but we respect the decision makers for their fight against this unprecedented virus while still getting our games played. The County Competition Control Committee (CCC) have used new regulations, competition formats, and workmanlike decision making to reach this stage of championship, and we are all delighted to see the championship finalised in these difficulty times. I congratulate all Clubs who have continued to contribute to giving us the opportunity to see Gaelic games played in changed and difficult times. The streaming of our games is a new phase and challenge that we have been thrown into, and we have tech-knowledgeable members getting to grips with this new way of bringing our club games into our homes. I wish the eight competing teams, across the four games, and the match Officials, the best of luck. 1

Two Cracking Senior Championship Relegation Semi-finals in Prospect The fight to avoid the relegation places in the Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Senior Championship went down to the final day of the competition with eight teams in danger of landing in the bottom four places. Wins for St Nauls and Killybegs hauled them both clear of the Relegation play-offs. Glenswilly had a narrow escape as Baile na nGalloglach drew with Na Ceithre Maistír to push the Donegal town side clear and leave the Milford side on just one league point -an extra point on the pitch to give them victory would have put them ahead of Glenswilly on points difference. With a negative points difference of only 16 points Dungloe lost their first three games narrowly but a powerful second half performance from Killybegs in their final game condemned them to the play-offs. Neither Ardara nor Termon were treated kindly by the draw. Ard an Rátha put in credible performances against three quarterfinalists - with narrow losses to Sean MacCumhaills and St Michaels and getting closer to Naomh Conaill than any other team. However, they never got started against Realt na Mara, not helped by a star performance by Realt keeper Ashley Mulhearn. A young Termon side were unfortunate to meer both Kilcar and Naomh Conaill and stumbled against Naomh Naille in their final game - they were, however, short of a couple of their more experienced forwards in that game. With the final placings throwing up regional rivals in both semi-finals parish pride combined with the fight for Senior Championship final should guarantee two cracking matches. The Knock-Out Stages and Streaming The Government’s decision to play all Gaelic Games behind closed doors until September 13th is dis-appointing for all club members and other supporters. Ironically, CLG Dhún na nGall scheduled knock-out games for September because the original government roadmap designated the start of that month for the return of up to 5,000 supporters at our games. As Iron Mike said “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”. The GAA is a widespread grassroots organisation and it is important in these difficult times that CLG Dhún na nGall do their utmost to look after the interests of the members and supporters who make clubs throughout the County the excellent community organisations they are. As such, the County Board is striving to broadcast most of the 33 knockout games in the Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Senior, Intermediate and Junior championships – football and hurling. Kudos to Aodh Ruadh and Setanta who stepped up to the mark last weekend to stream the Junior Hurling semi-finals on their own Facebook pages. This weekend CLG Dhún na nGall intend to stream four Senior and four Intermediate Championship quarterfinals and three Relegation play-off games as follows: Fri Sept 4th 8.30 - Ard na Ratha v An Clochán Liath in association with Ocean FM - Paddy McGill and Francie Friel Sat Sept 5th 12.00 - Aodh Ruadh v Naomh Muire in association with RnaG - Damien O’Donaill and Sylvester Maguire Sat Sept 5th 13.00 - Naomh Colmcille v An Bheart with commentary from Damien Dowds and Paul McGonigle Sat Sept 5th 15.30 - Naomh Conaill v Gleann Fhinne in association with Highland Radio - Oisin Kelly and Martin McHugh Sat Sept 5th 18.30 - Cill Chartha v Naomh Micheál in association with Highland Radio - Oisin Kelly and Martin McHugh Sat Sept 5th 18.30 - Cloich Cheann Fhaola v Aodh Rua Cuil na gCuirridín in association with RnaG - Damien O’Donnell agus Seosamh Mac Ceallbhuí Sun Sept 6th 13.00 - Naomh Bríd v Naomh Ultan with commentary from Ryan Walsh and Pat Campbell Sun Sept 6th 15.00 - Gaoth Dobhair v Sean MacCumhaill in association with RnaG - Damien O’Donnell agus Danny O’Donnell Sun Sept 6th 15.30 - Buncranncha v Gaeil Fhánadá with commentary from Damien Dowds and Paul McGonigle Sun Sept 6th 17.00 - Naomh Columba v Malainn in association with Ocean FM - Ciaran Cannon and John Joe Doherty Sun Sept 6th 18.30 -Naomh Ádhamhnáin v Realt na Mara in association with Highland Radio - Oisin Kelly and Brendan Kilcoyne All of these games are available on a PPV basis - €3 per game - via the Donegal GAA website. It is planned to stream subsequent games over the rest of September although the latter end of the current schedule may be subject to change, moving forward or backwards, depending on future circumstances. While many clubs have been happily streaming over the last seven weeks, Donegal GAA streamed its first 2020 game on August 23rd - the Round 4 football game between St Eunans and St Michaels. The live stream attracted peak- viewing of over a 1,000 and within a few days had been viewed over 15,000 times on the Official Donegal Facebook page. The knock-out games streamed by the County Board will be on a PPV basis. The quarterfinals will cost €3 and other games €5 except for the Senior football final which will be €8. The PRO will produce a series of “virtual programmes” - such as this one - that can be can be consulted on-line or downloaded/printed. Programmes will be included in the PPV price or free where there is no PPV as is the case with this Virtual Programme. While the County Board will endeavour to stream all knockout games where this is not possible it is hoped other games can be streamed with the help of clubs. At this point, it is appropriate to express my gratitude to the many clubs that have streamed games (for free) and looked after the interests of their supporters locally, elsewhere in Ireland and overseas over recent weeks. The County Board will forego revenue on games where clubs are providing the voluntary help and will stream these games for free. For all streamed games, and the “free” ones in particular, it is worth noting that streaming in the County is still in its infancy, there may be occasional issues with consistent coverage in some venues and it is being provided by local, unpaid volunteers - people should manage their expectation around this. Finally thank you to the commentators - as above - and the four stream teams - described elsewhere in this programme who have made this venture possible. 3

Local rivalries will add spice to Intermediate Championship Relegation semi-finals None of the bottom four teams going into final Round of games in the Intermediate Championship picked up points on the last day of the league games so all four - Naomh Brid, Naomh Colmcille, Burt and Naomh Ultan - find themselves in the relegation play- offs. Both games are local derbies with Naomh Bríd taking on Naomh Ultan and Naomh Colmcille playing Burt and the latter in particular, between neighbouring clubs, will be keenly contested. With a win against Naomh Ultan in Round 1, Naomh Colmcille might have expected to progress to the quarterfinals but subsequent losses to Malin and Naomh Muire left the daunting task of beating table-toppers Buncrana in their final game. After losses in their first two games, Naomh Brid’s win over Burt gave tem a fighting chance on the long trip to Falcarragh but despite a brave struggle Cloich Cheann Fhaola claimed the win. Both Burt and Naomh Ultan went into the final day winless but still with outside chances of breaking free of the bottom four. Both had some advantage but Naomh Columba proved too strong for the Inishowen side and Rd Hughs came away with the poins in Dunkineely. All four teams will be queitly confident going into this weekend’s games and their fans can look forward to two cracking ties. The Naomh Bríd-Naomh Ultan game will be streamed from Páirc Thír Chonaill and commentary will be provided by Ryan Walsh and Pat Campbell, manager of the Four Masters Senior team. Burt v Naomh Colmcille - Local Derby with a Difference Gerard McLaughlin Shaun Murphy’s Burt will face Joe Donaghy’s Naomh Colmcille this Saturday afternoon in the Scarvey with the winner securing their place in the Intermediate Championship for another season, while the loser will have to face either Naomh Brid or Naomh Ultan for one last crack at avoiding the Junior Championship in 2021. Needless to say, it has been a poor season to date for both sides, with Naomh Colmcille winning one game and losing three, while Burt lost all four, on what was the more difficult side of the draw. Naomh Colmcille made the quarter final last season, before eventually losing out to Cloughaneely, while Burt managed to beat Naomh Ultan to retain their status at intermediate level. It’s clear that the Newtown men have missed Michael Lynch, following his attempted transfer to Gaoth Dobhair and Donaghy will look to the likes of Daniel Clarke and Ryan McErlean to drive his side on this weekend. Burt should be able to call on the services of danger man Christy McDermott after injury and Mur- phy will be hoping that the big man can lead his side to victory over their neighbours on Saturday. These two sides started the season on a high when both claimed the scalp of Four Masters in the Regional League. Naomh Brid had one win in the championship league section, at home to Burt, but were competitive in the other games, tough encounters at home to Aodh Ruadh and difficult away games in Glencolmcille and Cloughaneely. They parted with their manager, Dougie Corbett, after the first defeat in Glen. Naomh Ultan have found the going tough after losing big full-forward Alan Lyons to injury in their opening game against Naomh Colmcille. it was the first of four defeats and they go into Sunday's game as the underdogs.
