Funding has been approved to contribute towards costs Networks Wanaka) associated with volunteer training and advertising for the Companionship Service for Older People throughout the Upper Clutha. This initiative will enable volunteers to be matched up with any older person in the community wanting companionship. There are currently 18 matches and it is expected this will grow to include a further ten older people over the next year. Arrowtown School Parent Arrowtown School PTA has received funding towards the purchase of a multi-sport goal $2,500.00 Teacher Association for their expected new astro-turf court which is to be installed in the spring of 2017. The multi-sport goal is required to have a safety wall, as the location of the goal sits along the perimeter of the school grounds which neighbours the local pre-school. Aspiring Beginnings Early Aspiring Beginnings Early Learning Centre provide high quality early childhood $2,000.00 Learning Centre education and care to children in the Upper Clutha. They are currently developing their outdoor playscape and funding has been approved for six benches for the children to gather, socialise and explore through pretend and physical play. Aspiring Gymsports Aspiring Gymsports is a non-profit club that provides artistic, rhythmic, tumbling, $2,300.00 recreational and competitive Gymnastic classes together with trampolining for participants from 4 years old through to adults. The club offers classes in the Upper Clutha region with a focus on providing quality, affordable classes. Funding has been approved for the purchase of one carpet-bonded Foam Mat. These mats cover the springs and ply on the new sprung floor which enables safer practice for the gymnasts. Cancer Society of NZ, Otago and The Cancer Society’s work is threefold: funding of Scientific Research, Health Promotion $3,600.00 Southland Division (e.g. Sunsmart in schools, Smokefree initiatives), and Supportive Care. Funding has been approved for their Supportive Care operation in Queenstown Lakes District - providing staff with resources to provide practical support to anyone affected by any cancer. Specifically, a grant has been made to assist with the cost of programme/workshops, the 0800 helpline and information resources. Drama Queenstown Drama Queenstown provides tuition and performance opportunities for youth (primary $1,000.00 school aged children) from throughout the Wakatipu in drama and musical theatre. Every year Drama Queenstown gives all of their 100 + students aged 5–14 years the opportunity to perform on a “real” stage in their end of year play/ performance. Due to the success of last year’s productions, this year they will be performing the musical “Gnomes and Gardens” in a larger venue - the Arrowtown Atheneum Hall, to accommodate a large cast and audience. This show is an inclusive production that gives so many children of the Wakatipu an opportunity to perform on a real stage for a real audience. Funding has been awarded to assist with the purchase of costumes. Happiness House Trust Happiness House is a community based non–profit organisation which provides services $2,500.00 to the Wakatipu district. They provide a warm, friendly, confidential environment where people can meet in a home-like setting. Their purpose is to assist those in need by encouraging healthy and empowering life choices. Funding has been approved for firewood to keep the Centre warm during winter months and for help with rubbish disposal. There are many donated goods from the local community that helps fund the service. Amongst the very good quality and interesting goods donated, some need to be disposed of and this is an ongoing issue and cost to the service. Holy Family Catholic School The purpose of Holy Family Catholic School is to provide approximately 200 children $1,930.43 with a good education in a state integrated school with a special Catholic character. Funding has been awarded to purchase more goals and poles for the sports department. Kahu Youth Trust Kahu Youth Trust provide organised, directed activities/events, on a regular basis for $800.00 youth aged 11–24. They provide positive channels through which young people may achieve success and gain recognition. Funding has been approved to assist with costs associated with the cooking and catering classes that teach life-skills to young people aged 11–24 in the Upper Clutha Region. Organisation Description of project Awarded amount Kelvin Peninsula Community Kelvin Peninsula Community Association initiates, supports and advocates on projects $5,000.00 Association that enhance or maintain the key assets of the Kelvin Peninsula. The popularity of Jardine Park has continued to grow over the years. The recent addition of the multipurpose courts, the bike park, goal posts on the field and the Jack Point track has bought many more families to the area to use the great facilities. Funding has been approved to contribute towards the purchase of an 80-metre flying fox at Jardine Park in Queenstown near their multipurpose court and Community Orchard. Lake County Agricultural & Pastoral The Lake County Agricultural & Pastoral Society has been bringing town and country $1,995.25 Society closer together for more than 100 years through the promotion of the Agricultural and Pastoral Industry with the annual A&P Show. Funding has been approved to purchase new jumping equipment for a new jumping section at the Lake Hayes Show in January 2018, in Queenstown. The jumps, which will include a bridge, an arch and a pool, will be used to run new recreational riding class competitions. Initially, the new classes will be for adult pleasure riders and will expand their equestrian activities which are a key ingredient of A&P Shows nationwide. Plus, the new classes will be the foundation of a pleasure riding section which will expand from adult riders only in 2018 to include younger riders from 2019. There is an active Wakatipu adult riding club who will now be able to take part in their local show - not all horse riders are show jumpers. In addition, the jumps will be portable so other riding groups in the Wakatipu can use them for their own competitions. Lake Hawea Community Centre Lake Hawea Community Centre is the hub for all community activities in the growing $2,000.00 Hawea catchment area. These activities include: a commercial kitchen, function rooms for meetings, weddings, funerals, bowling green, cricket, netball, local library, emergency centres and historical archive rooms. A section of the community centre building requires repair. More specifically, the roof on one side of the small function room needs painting. This will assist in providing weather tightness and preserving the existing structure for the community centre for future. Funding has been awarded to assist with the cost of painting the roof. Lakes District Air Rescue Trust Lakes District Air Rescue Trust provide Air Ambulance support throughout the region $2,088.00 effecting timely and life saving helicopter rescue and transport to save people lives, improve their survivability and better their chances of a positive medical outcome. Their volunteer crew give their time at no cost to the community in both training and actual operation hours. The area covered by the Trust is vast, mountainous and extremely variable in weather extremes. They need to provide their volunteer crew with protective outerwear to keep them safe when effecting rescues in all weather. Funding has been approved for the purchase of 12 Thinsulate jackets. Lakes District Museum Lakes District Museum provides a professionally run Museum for the benefit of the $4,000.00 residents of and the visitors to the Queenstown Lakes District. The Museum requires ongoing storage for its collections and temporary displays. Currently, the Museum is extremely short of storage space and needs an area to process, accession and de- accession objects. The plan is to build a below street level storage facility containing Dexion shelving and benches. Funding has been approved towards the cost of purchasing shelving units. Life Education Trust Heatland Otago Life Education Trust (New Zealand), a charity working with over 250,000 primary school $2,000.00 Southland children nationwide, helps to empower them to make the right decisions about their bodies, friendships, identity, food and nutrition and helpful/harmful substances. The aim is for them to become good citizens in their communities as they mature. Funding has been approved towards the cost of carpet for the mobile classroom. With constant use by 7,800 children from 60 schools on an annual basis wear and tear is a constant issue. LUMA Light Festival Trust LUMA Southern Light Project is a free public event, showcasing a curated collection of $4,000.00 stunning light sculptures and installations located in the Queenstown Gardens with a focus on transformation of space, public interaction, art, culture and education. Queenstown is well known as being a place of beauty, and the natural environment is a key element of this. LUMA Southern Light Project hopes to channel some of the amazing creative talent in Queenstown, coupled with national, and international artists into an accessible, all ages, community light event. The motivation for LUMA is to create an accessible public event that will engage communities and partners to explore the connection between art, technology and design through the medium of light. Funding has been approved to assist with production costs - lighting, audio and visual. NZ Mountain Film Festival NZ Mountain Film Festival Charitable Trust aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles $1,000.00 Charitable Trust through their annual film, art and literature festival in Wanaka and Queenstown (June 29 to July 7, 2018). The festival is a nine-day event focused on adventurous sports and lifestyles. They run a New Zealand and international film makers competition and play the finalist to the audience in the Lake Wanaka Centre and the Queenstown Memorial Centre. They have an art display and invite international and New Zealand adventurers to speak. They also operate an adventure film school an adventure writing school, community workshops, a free avalanche safety lecture, put on a free youth programme, free family shows, writing, art and photography workshops, and they get local musicians to play music. Funding has been approved to assist with sound and AV equipment. Presbyterian Support Otago Presbyterian Support Otago works for a fair, just and caring community. Presbyterian 1,000.00 Support Otago’s Buddy Programme helps children to make a positive impact on their loved ones and their community. Each week, 11 adults in Wanaka spend 2–3 hours with a child or young person who needs extra support from an adult. They spend time doing things both Buddies enjoy – each Buddy pair is different and what they spend time doing together is up to them. Activities are low or no cost and encourage positive interests, attitudes, values and behaviour. Funding has been awarded to assist with the costs associated with the Buddy Programme. Organisation Description of project Awarded amount Presbyterian Support Southland Presbyterian Support Southland assist and encourage people facing life's challenges $1,500.00 through a range of services across Southland through Enliven and Family Works. Children who enter the Wakatipu Buddy Programme need extra adult support due to many factors impacting on their lives, such as family separation, dysfunction, death or financial difficulty. The Big Buddy volunteers meet with their Little Buddies approximately 2–3 hours each week doing one-on-one activities such as biking, baking or playing games. There are also 3–4 group outings arranged every year where they participate in group activities such as “Clean Up Queenstown Bay”. On average, there are roughly 28 children matched in the Wakatipu basin annually. The aims are to provide friendship, fun, support, guidance and encouragement. This will increase the children’s self-esteem, develop social skills and help children make positive choices. Funding has been approved to assist with costs associated with the Buddy Programme. Queenstown Art Society The Queenstown Art Society manages the Queenstown Arts Centre in the heart of $888.00 Queenstown. Their focus is on helping those people who live in the Wakatipu Basin, who want to develop their artistic skills. Their project this year is The Annual Art Awards Exhibition and opening event, which is the presentation of the awards, at the Queenstown Arts Centre. This event has been run for more than 16 years and is the only one of its kind in Queenstown. Funding has been approved to provide a catalogue for the event. Queenstown Bowling Club Queenstown Bowling Club promote the game of lawn bowls for fellowship for all age $3,039.13 groups, social or competitively. They have a weekly Club night and many groups and families use the facilities for team-building and family get togethers whilst enjoying a game of bowls and a BBQ meal. Funding has been approved to replace their BBQ with a built in one that will last years. Queenstown Citizens Advice Bureau Queenstown Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) provides free and confidential advice to $2,000.00 everyone, to ensure that individuals do not suffer through ignorance of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available, or through an inability to express their needs effectively. They have one paid employee and 34 volunteers. The way CAB provides information to their clients has changed over the last 28 years. Information gathering and sharing is now largely internet based. The hard copy brochures are now in many areas being phased out. At the moment, their premises are fitted out with walls full of shelves and rooms with bookcases to hold this information for their clients. To continue to provide their professional services to the Queenstown Community they need to remove the excess shelving and built-in bookcases and provide clean areas with flexibility to offer computer and printer access for their clients. Funding has been approved to assist with the cost of interior painting. Queenstown Golf Club Queenstown Golf Club are currently working on developing their Pro Shop and $5,172.05 Clubhouse Lobby Entry areas to provide a more professional looking and practical entrance to the Club. This is where all visitors to the Club come first either to book in for a round of golf or to gain access to the Clubhouse for use of the café or toilet facilities. Included in this work are elements of both earthquake strengthening and fire alarm system upgrades which they felt are necessary to carry out as part of this Stage 1 project. A lot of the work will be done voluntarily by Club Members. Funding has been approved to assist with the roofing frame for the office. Queenstown Hockey Club Queenstown Hockey Club is experiencing growth in the fast-growing area and $1,941.17 have received funding to purchase training equipment to support the development of their members and coaches. Queenstown Ice Hockey Queenstown Ice Hockey have received funding to purchase new gear so they can $2,000.00 replace some worn out items. They hire out gear to kids as it is an expensive sport to purchase all of the gear required and can be a barrier for children trying ice hockey. Queenstown Playcentre Queenstown Playcentre provides an affordable early childhood education and a sense $1,208.96 of community cohesion, belonging and stability for families with children 0–6 years old. Funding has been approved for the purchase of a new front loading washing machine which is a MoE requirement. Queenstown Primary School Queenstown Primary School cater for the educational needs of 600+ students aged $3,565.00 5–13 years. They are wanting to resource a cooking room at school. They have noticed the need with students who want to develop skills in this area. Currently at school they have limited space available. To date, they have a dedicated classroom kitted out with a new oven and microwave. To make this a functioning space, funding has been approved for the purchase of a stainless mobile workstation. Queenstown Swimming Club Queenstown Swimming Club has 80 members and has received funding for new training $3,099.83 fins and kickboards. Remarkable Theatre Remarkable Theatre seeks to promote the performing arts in Central Otago through $2,955.65 the performance of theatrical works, to entertain and challenge the community with their presentations and provide opportunities for performers, directors and theatrical technicians to exercise their crafts. Remarkable Theatre puts a variety of shows on each year. The major show is in a purpose-built theatre but their other shows are in non-conventional spaces. Their Pint Sized Plays – scheduled for September - are in bars that generally do not have their own staging, while their annual summer show is in the Queenstown Gardens. Funding has been approved to provide a portable stage so performers can be raised up to make them easier to be seen by the audience. Organisation Description of project Awarded amount Remarkables Primary School Remarkables Primary School has received funding for the purchase of 15 new radios $2,945.01 which will benefit all students, staff and parents. The radios will enable clear and efficient communication in time of need and immediate emergency action. Given the school layout/environment is an open one, they do not have fences or boundaries. Radios are used daily for Health & Safety purposes. They are also used when the school goes skiing and at sports events. Royal New Zealand Plunket Society Royal New Zealand Plunket Society’s Community Services supports countless parents $2,287.00 and under 5s through Parenting Education Programmes (PEPE), Playgroups, Breastfeeding Support Groups, Music Groups, Volunteer Opportunities, and Injury Prevention programmes. Funding has been approved for the purchase of 11 new chairs for the Queenstown Plunket rooms. The chairs need to be comfortable and wide enough for pregnant women and babies so that caregivers can feed their babies. Shotover Primary School Shotover Primary School has received funding to assist with the purchase of School $3,000.00 tracksuits to be used for sporting and cultural events. The school has been competing in many sports events since they opened in 2015 and as they grow they are competing in more local events and having greater representation at Otago regional events. Having a school tracksuit would keep students warm and would give the school greater visibility and identity at these events. By having them provided by the school, it eases the financial burden to the families who may not be able to afford additional uniform items. Snow Sports NZ Snow Sports NZ promotes snow sports from grassroots all the way to international $1,500.00 success. Funding has been approved towards the purchase of race uniforms for the NZ Junior Alpine Ski Racing Team. Snow Sports NZ manages the Coronet Peak based NZ Junior Alpine Ski Racing Team which competes in national competitions during the New Zealand domestic winter season and represents our country in the northern hemisphere winter season. The team ranges in youth ages from 13 to 16 including both abled bodied and disabled skiers, and is primarily supported by volunteer effort from parents, regional ski clubs and coaches. Southern Lakes Arts Festival Trust - The Southern Lakes Arts Festival Trust aims to deliver New Zealand’s leading regional $2,000.00 Aspiring Conversations arts and ideas festivals – inspiring, entertaining, challenging their audiences, and making the arts a more integral part of the community. Aspiring Conversations is a biennial festival of ideas, writers and thinkers. The next is April 2018 and is already becoming New Zealand’s unique ideas festival. Funding has been approved for the printing of the programme brochure which is their main piece of marketing collateral. It is distributed to 4,000 addresses on their database as well as door dropped around the district and distributed by volunteers to shops, cafés, schools and libraries. The 16-page programme outlines the speakers, times and venue and ticketing information, and links with their online presence (website, social media). Spinal Cord Society New Zealand The goal of the Spinal Cord Society is to find a treatment and cure for Type-1 Diabetes, $850.00 spinal cord injuries and other autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. On the 18th of November 2017, the Queenstown Marathon is being held and they have a number of volunteers who will be competing in this event as a fundraiser. They have received funding to have a marquee at the Sports Expo on Memorial Street Queenstown in the lead up to this event to increase awareness of their Society and engage with the targeted 20,000 competitors and family that will be in Queenstown competing in the event. St John - Wakatipu St John – Wakatipu provide emergency medical response throughout the Wakatipu $5,000.00 region. They also run first aid courses, a Health Shuttle, Caring Caller, Youth programs and Friends of the Emergency Department. Funding has been approved to contribute towards the cost of the Health Shuttle service for a year. The health shuttle runs to Invercargill Monday–Friday transporting people to hospital and health-related appointments. They typically carry people who have no other means of transport to Invercargill. They are often the elderly, the infirm or tourists who do not have family here. In the last 12 months, they have completed 758 client trips (one way journeys); which is an increase of 75 trips from the previous 12 months, and travelled 71,659 kms. To run this service, they currently have 23 volunteers. The Parenting Place - Attitude, the youth division of The Parenting Place, equips young people with life skills to $417.00 Attitude Youth Division safely navigate their teenage years and build a meaningful life. Their objective is to encourage mental and emotional resilience and to help prevent youth suicide, teen pregnancy, bullying, drug and alcohol abuse and low self-esteem. Attitude offers schools a range of seven different educational presentations and complementary resources covering topics such as choices, mental health, friendships, sex, relationships, drugs, alcohol, safe use of technology and families. By teaching young people ‘how’ to think and not ‘what’ to think they are given the confidence in their own ability to resist the many risk factors (e.g. peer pressure, bullying, low self-esteem or poor nurturing) they may encounter. Funding has been approved to provide 263 Hardwired handbooks to Year 10 students during the 2018 life skill presentations. The Queenstown Jazzfest Trust The Queenstown JazzFest Trust is a voluntary, non-profit organisation that coordinates $2,190.00 the annual Jazz Festival. The Trust aims to entertain and inspire through live musical performance. October 2017 marks the 40th Queenstown Jazz Festival and the continued evolution of this iconic annual music event. Four days of live entertainment woven into the fabric of downtown Queenstown. Bringing world class musicians from far and wide and showcasing the diversity of the jazz genre. Organisation Description of project Awarded amount The UpsideDowns Education Trust The focus and purpose of The UpsideDowns Education Trust is to enable children with $2,000.00 Down syndrome access to a specialised speech language therapy programme designed for them with a strong emphasis on school readiness. Their primary objective is to teach children with Down syndrome how to talk, read and write with the end result being communicative, confident and independent children and adults. Funding has been approved to provide essential and individualised speech language therapy to Queenstown-Lakes District children. Upper Clutha Tracks Trust The purpose of the Upper Clutha Tracks Trust is to advocate for, plan, fundraise and $5,000.00 create an integrated network of walking and cycling tracks in the Upper Clutha Basin. The Trust propose to add a ramp to the Hawea River Track Swing bridge at Albert Town. The bridge is currently accessed on the west side by two flights of stairs. The ramp will provide better access for cyclists and people with mobility issues. It will also make the track which is a commuter route, easier to access with heavy e-bikes. The Bridge is part of the Te Araroa Long distance path and is used by all sections of the community and also provides access to the Newcastle track, the Butterfields loop track, and a large DOC reserve. Funding has been approved for the purchase of bridge materials. Wakatipu Abuse Prevention Network Wakatipu Abuse Prevention Network provide a range of social service interventions $3,500.00 for vulnerable families, individuals and children. Services are delivered from their two branches – Jigsaw Central Lakes & Queenstown Lakes Family Centre – by qualified staff. Services include counselling, social work programmes, support, advocacy and safety planning for people affected by violence or mild/moderate mental health. The merge of these services provides the community with a multi-disciplinary approach by qualified professionals. They have also started the process of extending their family services to the Wanaka region. Funding has been approved to help towards the cost of a vehicle to help them service this region. They currently have one vehicle that is shared between 12 Queenstown-based staff in two separate locations which is difficult to manage, given their increased workloads. Wakatipu Dog Agility Club Wakatipu Dog Agility Club provide education, support and advice to all interested dog $1,220.00 owners and promote responsible, modern, positive methods of dog handling. They are aiming to grow an interest in dog training and dog handling by running regular classes in dog agility. These classes teach people not only how to handle their dogs in the agility ring but also methods that they can use to train their dog in other environments. The principles of dog training are the same regardless of which discipline you are practicing. Along with agility they teach obedience and good manners. The programme is aimed at everyone who owns a dog and this currently ranges from children with the family dog to senior citizens who have a dog as a companion. Funding has been approved for the purchase of a collapsible tunnel and a flexi tunnel. Wakatipu High School - Funding has been awarded to assist with the registration costs for the Wakatipu High $1,297.00 'Best Served Chilled' Jazz Band School’s ‘Best Served Chilled’ Jazz Band’s annual trip to the Southern Jam Youth Jazz Festival in Blenheim. The Senior Jazz Band ‘Best Served Chilled’ has won the competition 7 times. The festival is an opportunity for schools to come together to learn and develop their musical skills, perform to live audiences and to compete in a quality musical competition. The purpose is to foster an attitude to music as an art form, to build self confidence in students through performance and to develop a strong cultural base within the school and the wider community. Wakatipu High School Foundation The Wakatipu High School Foundation provides 10% of the funding for Queenstown’s $3,000.00 only high school. This investment is critical to providing both students and teachers the tools necessary for a superior educational community in Queenstown. One of their most vital initiatives is the Awhi (Financial Hardship) Fund. Families can be under a lot of financial pressure in Queenstown, particularly with high rents and employment that does not necessarily pay well. For some families, support from the Foundation can be the difference between buying groceries and not. The support means that students are able to pursue their interests both academic and extracurricular without the financial pressure that would otherwise impact on the entire family. Funding has been approved to contribute towards this Fund. Wakatipu Playcentre Wakatipu Playcentre is a unique early education provider which is partly run and $1,300.00 (formerly Frankton Playcentre) funded by parents. They believe that supported parents are the first and best educators of their young children. In the last two months, they have had to relocate and change their name due to the rapid expansion of Remarkables Primary into the building which they were in. At the new site, what was previously a swimming pool has been converted into a beautiful sandpit for which they would like to buy a large pool cover so that their investment in to high quality sand for this area can remain clean and safe for the current children and many more in the future. Wakatipu Reforestation Trust The Wakatipu Reforestation Trust provides free or low cost native plants for community $3,217.39 planting on public land around the Wakatipu Basin to help restore native biodiversity. The Trust also provides an educational facility to enable children, schools and adults to become familiar with native plants, their propagation and planting. For the first three years after being planted out the young plants need to be given the best chance of growing on. This means removing weeds and suppressing grass growth around the immature trees. This is done either manually, by spraying or with a weed eater. As the number of young plants being planted out increases each year the amount of maintenance at each of the planting sites increases. To accommodate this increasing need for maintenance the Trust has received funding to purchase equipment and associated safety equipment. Organisation Description of project Awarded amount Wakatipu Search and Rescue Wakatipu Search and Rescue is made up of a group of volunteers, who will leave $2,500.00 their homes in any weather, day or night, in extreme conditions and testing terrain at time, to search for and rescue or retrieve the lost, injured, ill or missing and bring them home to their loved ones. Funding has been approved to purchase new tranceivers for the Alpine Cliff Rescue Team to replace their current set that are 12 years old are now obsolete and out-of-date. Wakatipu Toy Library Wakatipu Toy Library offers a range of educational toys, puzzles, games and learning $1,969.44 activities for members to hire for a period of two weeks. It caters mainly for children and babies in the community aged 0–8. Funding has been approved to expand their inventory of educational toys in the areas of construction, puzzles and roleplay. The new lego, puzzles and magformers would be of benefit to children in the older age range, 5–8 and other kinesthetic toys for the pre-school age range. They currently have 137 families using the library with at least one child. Wakatipu Youth Trust Wakatipu Youth Trust operates a youth centre in Queenstown and employs 4.25 youth $2,776.52 workers who promote positive youth development in the Wakatipu region. They achieve this through programmes, educational courses including life skills, events and by providing one on one support and advocacy. Funding has been approved to purchase two laptops as part of their technology overhaul. The use of high end technology is in every facet of young people’s lives and schools are at the forefront of this growing demand to have the latest technology integrated and prioritised into children’s educational needs. As a youth focused organisation they are wanting to reflect these trends and to be progressive in their approach to integrating technology into programmes, activities, events, community youth centre and ensure effective administrative operations. Wanaka Preschool Early Wanaka Preschool is the oldest community based non-profit Centre. This winter $1,500.00 Childhood Centre has been very hard on some of their appliances. One of their dish drawers cannot be fixed and the repairman has advised that their dryer is near its use by date. Funding has been approved to purchase a new dryer and dishwasher which are both health and safety necessities. Wanaka Rowing Club The focus and purpose of the Wanaka Rowing Club is to promote, foster and support $3,000.00 the sport of rowing to all age groups on both a social and competitive basis in the Lake Wanaka area and to encourage, develop and maintain public interest in all aspects of the sport. Funding has been approved to purchase a lightweight quad rowing skiff to enable, primarily, children aged 13–18 years to participate in the sport of rowing and allow more experienced rowers to compete in a boat that is fit for its purpose. Warbirds Over Wanaka The Warbirds Over Wanaka Community Trust was established to run the Warbirds $1,645.00 Community Trust Over Wanaka Airshow. Funding has been approved to help provide unique free entertainment at Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow. This is in the form of the “Frankie Singers”. This is a group of amateur singers based in Christchurch who will come to Wanaka to perform at Warbirds. They perform all the old songs from both WWI and WWII. They dress in period uniforms. This group has performed previously and are one of the highlights of the airshow for many of the approximately 50,000 people who attend the airshow over the three days. In addition, they will also perform at the free Community air display that is run for locals and visitors alike on the Wanaka lakefront on the late Friday afternoon.
