My favourite part was making the marble maze and then going through the hedge maze” Platt Primary School WORKSHOPS Scavenger Hunts (non-guided) Choose from one of our range of ‘egg-box’ scavenger hunts for the children to complete as they explore the gardens and woodland. • Shapes and textures e.g. ‘Find something smooth/hard/prickly. • Fairytale imaginings e.g. ‘Find a wizard’s staff/fairy’s hat. Age suitability: 3-6 year olds Duration: No time limit Location: Collect your boxes from the Garden Room on arrival and fill them at your leisure. Price per child: £2 Enchanted Forest Scavenger Hunt (guided) This imaginative and theatrical guided walk will enable pupils to discover our magical grotto in the Rock Garden and the nearby ‘Enchanted Forest’, where twisted vines hang from ancient trees and vibrant ferns hang from lichen covered rocks. We will lead you on this journey of exploration searching for enchanted objects to complete the scavenger hut. Age suitability: 5-10 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: Rock Garden, Woodland and Grotto Price per child: £3 Growing Tour This ‘hands on’ tour of the gardens will introduce the children to some of our more unusual plants and trees as well as The Walled Garden vegetables and chickens! Age suitability: 3-10 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: The Gardens Price per child: £3 Wild Woodland Art This creative workshop takes place in the Woodland, inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s work, artwork will be created in the landscape using natural materials. Schools will need to bring photography devices with them to record the work. Age suitability: 7-10 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: Woodland Price per child: £3 Wild Woodland Wizard Wand Workshop The children’s chance to get creative and to visit the Garden Room Studio to design and make their very own wand using a variety of natural woodland materials and mixed media. Wands are an important accessory for visiting an Enchanted Forest or for conjuring up spells back in the classroom. Age suitability: 5-10 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: The Garden Room Price per child: £3.50 Seed Mosaics A great combination of art, science and maths, this workshop involves using seeds of varying shapes, sizes and texture to create fantastic pieces of art work. Think glue and seeds meets repeating patterns! Age suitability: 3-8 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: The Garden Room Price per child: £4 Hobby Horse Making Use natural resources (straw and sticks) and socks to create your own imaginative horses, monsters or indeed ‘Wild Things’ and then ride around the grounds. This wonderful workshop can be easily adapted to link with the stories/topics you are studying. Age suitability: 3-8 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: The Garden Room Price per child: £4 Marble Mazes Inspired by our hedge maze, design and create your own marble labyrinth to take home. Accessible to all, this design and technology activity is fantastic at stretching the minds of budding engineers and designers with masses of problem solving… and fun! Age suitability: 6-10 year olds Duration: 1 hour Location: The Garden Room Price per child: £4
GARDEN ROOM Included in your booking is the use of the Garden Room. This light and airy barn has a seated capacity of 60 and is the perfect ‘base’; somewhere to store packed lunches, unwanted coats and bags and also a place to have lunch or do activities in the event of a downpour. The hire of the Garden Room is free to schools. CAFÉ & SHOP Otto’s Cafe & the Riverhill shop are open 9am - 5pm (Wednesday to Sunday only). Please note that if you are visiting us on a Monday or Tuesday they will both be closed so make sure you ask everyone to remember their packed lunch and drinks! For teachers and accompanying adults, Otto’s serve fantastic coffee & their famous brunch as well as freshly made light lunches, delicious cakes, cold drinks and ice cream (Wednesday to Friday only). Please let us know if you would like to pre-order 100% fruit lollies or Solley’s Farm ice creams for the children to enjoy during their visit. We are 2 miles south of Sevenoaks on the A225. From the M25 Exit the M25 at Junction 5 and go south on the A21. Take the second exit marked ‘Hildenborough’. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A225 towards Sevenoaks. Continue up the hill. The entrance is on your right. There is ample free parking in our car park, disabled parking is available by Riverhill House. Please note that Riverhill Himalayan Gardens cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles or their contents whilst you are parked on site. Coach parking Coach Parking is in front of the house, and is provided free of charge, but there is limited availability so please talk to us about this in advance. Important information for coach drivers Please note that coaches can only access our entrance coming downhill from Sevenoaks (i.e. Heading South from Sevenoaks on the A225). OPENING TIMES Open 12 March - 31st October 2021, 9am - 5pm (Wed-Sun). Monday, Tuesday: Closed (except Bank Holidays) For coaches and groups of 20 and above we are delighted to be able to offer you exclusive access on a Monday or Tuesday when we are closed to the general public. Your group will have the gardens to yourselves which creates a lovely, relaxed environment for your day. For groups of 10 - 20 you are welcome Wednesday - Friday. We can often accommodate earlier arrivals if that is helpful. Early booking is advisable as we can only accept one school visit per day. SCHOOL GROUP PRICES 2021 Entrance group child discount • Children aged 4 years + • Minimum group size 10 • 1 free adult per 6 paying children (additional adults £7) • £5.50 per child. No charge for children under 4 years Workshops If you would like to include one of our workshops in your visit, please add the price per child of the workshop to your entry fee.
